  • LOCAL NEWS: Law Lecturer Expresses Disappointment At Special Prosecutor's Resignation

A Law Lecturer at the University of Florida, Prof. Kwaku Asare has expressed disappointment at the resignation of the Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu. According to him, the former anti-Corruption Czar should have resisted the urge to step down despite alleged political interference in his work. Prof Asare, who is popularly known as Kwaku Azar said although the instances of interference in his work from higher authority were evident he still believes Mr.Martin Amidu could have stayed at the post to prove his commitment to the fight against corruption. READ ALSO: https://www.thinknewsonline.com/post/opinion-how-to-go-on-a-peaceful-aworshia-without-being-caught He is convinced a bit of restraint from the special prosecutor could have done the country a lot of good in its anti-corruption fight. "I knew it was only a question of time until the pressure got the better of him. At the same time, I say I am disappointed and saddened because I don't think resignation under these circumstances is the best way out because when you read the letter, it is one where the Special Prosecutor feels his functions are being interfered with by the Presidency. I would expect an independent special prosecutor to stand his grounds and say that the taxpayer put me here to be an independent prosecutor to do my job; I am not going to allow anyone, including the president to interfere with my job and if I have found that I am no longer happy,I am going to do my work in terms of investigating, prosecuting and not allow anyone to push me out". "If you have seen wrongdoing and your response is to run away from the wrongdoing, then you are not doing the people's task because the people anticipated that some of these wrongdoings will occur and when they do occur, they expect you to fight", ProfAzar decried. But for prof. Kwaku Asare, the resignation of Martin Amidu though not shocking is not only one that is sad but also disappointing, given the controversies that surrounded the operationalization of the office of the special prosecutor. "I wouldn't say I am surprised although I will say I am both saddened and disappointed. I am not surprised because the frustrations of the Special prosecutor over the years have been palpable ". he said. • OPINION: Mungo Park In Vogue? What Could Be The Motivating Factor?

A quintessential gentleman is generally expected to have a good sense of fashion, be well mannered, and be chivalrous. In years gone by, to be seen as well dressed, a gentleman had to complement his dressing with a neat pair of socks. not any more! as I head to work each morning my inquisitive pair of eyes notices that most of my peers, also headed for work fail to complement their dressing with a pair of socks, which is known in street parlance as Mungo park. That tickled my curiosity and made me wonder why young men of today are reluctant to complement their dressing with a pair of socks. Could it be a fashion statement? Unsurprisingly these new trends always emanate from the youth, a segment of the population that seeks adventure, are innovative, and like to explore. So the question is, what is the psychology behind trends? what sustains a trend and keeps it in vogue? Why do some trends last more than others? Information reaching ThinkNews Online indicates that Ghana's Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu has resigned from his position. In a letter sighted by ThinkNews Online, he said “The one condition upon which I accepted to be nominated as the Special Prosecutor when you invited me to your Office on 10th January 2018 was your firm promise to me that you will respect and ensure same by your Government for my independence and freedom of action as the Special Prosecutor,” READ ALSO: https://www.thinknewsonline.com/post/sports-c-k-akonnor-eyes-victory-in-first-competitive-game-as-ghana-coach He added the Presidential interference did not help him to work independently. He also mentioned that he will be expecting President Akufo-Addo to get a replacement for him as mandated by law. READ ALSO: https://www.thinknewsonline.com/post/breaking-news-j-j-rawlings-dies-at-73 He cited the Agyapa deal among public backlash as reasons for his resignation. "I am grateful to every Ghanaian for both the support and criticisms during my tenure. When the real facts of my tenure become well known to the public in the future, history may judge me kindly. Ghana First!" he added. Below is a copy of the resignation and full text: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE RESIGNATION OF APPOINTMENT AS SPECIAL PROSECUTOR WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT: MARTIN A. B. K. AMIDU, ESQ This is to inform the public that I resigned from my position as the Special Prosecutor of the Office of the Special Prosecutor with immediate effect upon the submission of my letter of resignation with reference number OSP/2/AM/14 dated 16th November 2020 which was received at the Office of the President at 15:15 HRS this afternoon. I should not ordinarily be announcing my resignation to the public myself but the traumatic experience I went through from 20th October 2020 to 2nd November 2020 when I conveyed in a thirteen (13) page letter the conclusions and observations on the analysis of the risk of corruption and anti-corruption assessment on the Report On Agyapa Royalties Limited Transactions and Other Matters Related Thereto to the President as Chairman of the National Security Council cautions against not bringing my resignation as the Special Prosecutor with immediate to the notice of the Ghanaian public and the world. In undertaking the analysis of the risk of prevention of corruption and anti-corruption assessment I sincerely believed that I was executing an independent mandate under the Office of the Special Prosecutor, Act, 2017 (Act 959) and the Office of the Special Prosecutor (Operations) Regulations, 2018 (L. I. 2374). The reaction I received for daring to produce the Agyapa Royalties Limited Transactions anti-corruption report convinces me beyond any reasonable doubt that I was not intended to exercise any independence as the Special Prosecutor in the prevention, investigation, prosecution, and recovery of assets of corruption. My position as the Special Prosecutor has consequently become clearly untenable. It is essential for me to state for the purpose of the records, and contrary to public perceptions, that my appointment letter was received on 5th February 2020 (almost two (2)-years after my appointment). The copy addressees made no efforts to honour any of the conditions of appointment in terms of emoluments and benefits of the appointment ever since my warrant of appointment was issued on 23rd February 2018 to the date of my letter of resignation. I accepted the offer on 10th January 2018 to be nominated to be Special Prosecutor because Mr. President and Ghanaians knew I have been an anti-corruption crusader all my life and not an anti-corruption entrepreneur. This explains why I have never put the emoluments and benefits of the Office as central to my commitment and my passion for the establishment of an independent, effective, efficient and impartial anti-corruption Office of the Special Prosecutor before the end of the first term of Mr. President. This has not been possible for several reasons. The Deputy Special Prosecutor has also not been paid any emoluments since her appointment, and there is the need to redress that situation for her now that I am out of the way. The events of 12th November 2020 removed the only protection I had from the threats and plans directed at me for undertaking the Agyapa Royalties Limited Transactions anti-corruption assessment report and dictates that I resign as the Special Prosecutor immediately. Fear is the enemy of change and I am prepared from the vacuum created on 12th November 2020 to meet the threats of my demise as the price to pay for serving my country without fear or favour affection or ill will. I acted professionally throughout in the discharge of my duties and my conscience is the anchor of my strength to face any consequences. I am grateful to every Ghanaian for both the support and criticisms during my tenure. When the real facts of my tenure become well known to the public in the future, history may judge me kindly. Ghana First! MARTIN A. B. K. AMIDU, ESQ Story by: Joshua Kwabena Smith

  • LIFESTYLE: 7 Reasons Why A Person Can Faint Right After Reaching Orgasm

Did you know that one can actually faint after reaching orgasm during a sexual encounter? This assertion has now made it difficult for some persons to reach orgasm. Low blood sugar, intense sex, fatigue, and even anxiety may trigger fainting. People who pass out after an orgasm usually do not need to worry. 1. Vasovagal syncope Vasovagal syncope is the most common type of fainting. It happens when a person’s blood pressure suddenly drops, temporarily depriving the brain of oxygen, and it results in the person falling unconscious. It occurs when the vagus nerve, which regulates heart rate and blood vessel constriction temporarily loses normal regulation due to overstimulation. As a result, the blood vessels widen, blood pressure drops, and the person faints. READ ALSO: https://www.thinknewsonline.com/post/breaking-news-j-j-rawlings-dies-at-73 2. Hyperventilation Hyperventilation during an orgasm or intense sexual activity can reduce the amount of oxygen flowing to the brain, which may cause a person to faint. People who feel anxious about sex may also hyperventilate during an orgasm or shortly afterward. Once a person’s breathing returns to normal, the risk of fainting passes. 3. Hunger and thirst Sometimes, sex or masturbation can temporarily distract a person from other physical needs, such as water and food. Intense sexual activity is a lot like aerobic exercise, also increasing a person’s need for water and oxygen. So, if a person does not drink enough water, they can become dehydrated and even pass out. Sexual pleasure may likewise distract a person from their hunger. Low blood sugar can cause fainting. The risk of fainting is higher in people with certain medical conditions, including those with diabetes on blood glucose-lowering medications. READ ALSO: https://www.thinknewsonline.com/post/sports-c-k-akonnor-eyes-victory-in-first-competitive-game-as-ghana-coach 4. Stress and anxiety While an orgasm itself might be pleasurable, the sensations surrounding it might not be. Some people feel anxious or ashamed about sex. Anxiety and stress can cause fainting in several ways. A person might hyperventilate, depriving the brain of oxygen. Anxiety may also cause vasovagal syncope, which causes a sudden drop in blood pressure. In some cases, anxiety may distract a person from their basic need for food or water, causing hunger- or dehydration-related fainting. 5. Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) causes too little blood to flow back to the heart when a person changes position, often when going from sitting or lying down to standing. Similar to vasovagal syncope, it can cause blood pressure to drop very low suddenly. READ ALSO: https://www.thinknewsonline.com/post/entertainment-i-have-been-asked-not-to-mimic-late-rawlings-until-he-is-buried-clemento-suarez Following an orgasm, POTS can happen when a person stands, or if they changed position frequently or quickly during sex. Most people with POTS do not have an underlying medical condition, but some may have heart arrhythmias or circulation disorders. 6. Heart health problems Rarely, fainting may warn of a problem with the heart or the circulatory system. Some health issues may cause a person to pass out after orgasm. 7. Autoerotic asphyxiation Some people deliberately pass out during an orgasm or attempt to induce feelings of dizziness that lead to fainting. People may refer to this as autoerotic asphyxiation. People do it by trying to cut off their supply of oxygen or decrease blood flow to their brain. It is extremely dangerous and can even be lethal. If you did not know, then now you know. Will you still reach orgasm wen having sex with your partner or you will not? Credit: Medicalnewstoday.com
