WATCH: Ursula Partners MTN Ghana To Commission Robotics, E-Library And ICT Centre At Ebenezer SHS

The Minister for Communication, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has partnered with Telecommunication Giant, MTN Ghana to commission an ultra-modern Robotics, E-Library, and ICT Centre for students of the Ebenezer Senior High School and residents in the Ablekuma West Constituency.


According to her, the facility will help students and residents in the community to cultivate the habit of reading and also developing a love for physics, chemistry among other subjects.


Speaking at the commissioning of the facility, the Communication Minister said “The facility which is the first of its kind in the country, will enrich and improve the lives of many children and teachers in the Dansoman community and its environments”



The Communication Minister described 2020 as a year of as a challenging year full of adversity and opportunities adding despite the outbreak of Covid-19, many young students have been seen coming out with innovative solutions which have helped people.


“In Senegal, students from the Dakar Polythenic have built a multi-functional robot which has been designed to lower the risk of covid-19 contamination from patients to care-givers. In South Africa, a young Entrepreneur used 3D printers to produce a hundred facemask a day for use in some of Johannesburg’s major hospitals and in Ghana too, the Ghana Tech Lab at the Accra Digital Centre has also done the same and produced face-shields with 3D printing technology”


She further revealed that following the brilliant performance of the Methodist Girls High School in the Eastern Region and Prempeh College who won the first RoboFest Competition back-back in 2019 and 2020, her Ministry is prepared to invest in the education of the youth across the country.



She stressed that Ghana does not lack in talent rather when the young people in the country are provided with the needed tools, they will go all length to unearth the innovative spirit in them.


The Communication Minister also hinted the new facility will equip and nurture more talents in the country who provide innovative solutions that will spare national and global development.


She urged the students and the residents to explore the facility and fully reap its benefits.


On his part, the Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, Selorm Adadevoh said “The project is aimed at providing the next generation in Dansoman a mean to acquire more knowledge and skills. A means to a relevant future”



He added that power of education has long been documented in the country’s Literature and History adding education is the keystone of people’s life and happiness.


Mr Adadevoh also revealed that the ultra-modern facility is likely to be the first secondary library to have a modern integrated and multi-purpose facility that includes an ICT component and Robotic Lab


“Ladies and gentlemen, we live in a world today that ICT and technology in general are fully embedded in our daily lives. ICT and Robotics have revolutionized the world we live in and has completely changed the way things are done around us in the various aspects of our daily lives. The use of ICT in education has changed the way we study and in fact, the way how teachers deliver their lessons” he noted.


The CEO revealed he was inspired by the proposal for a robotic centre in Dansoman hence MTN Ghana’s approval to support the construction.



He assured that MTN Ghana will continue to support the education of young children in the country.

Municipal Chief Executive Officer (MCE) at the Ablekuma West Municipal Assembly, George Cyril Bray explained that the newly constructed facility will play a major role in the lives of the students by serving as the storehouse of knowledge.


He challenged the students to make good use of the facility and maintain it.


In an exclusive interview with ThinkNewsOnline, Headmistress of Ebenezer Senior High School, Anastasia Afua Konadu said “This new facility will help improve the teaching and learning of ICT and Robotics. We are grateful to MTN Ghana and the MP but we will ask for more”


She explained that the school will take details of constituents who will access the facility.



Madam Konadu added measures will be put in place to ensure that constituents or students do not contract the covid-19 since the facility will be opened to all.
