Konadu Slams NDC For Seeking To Profit From Rawlings’ Death; Asks Party To Stop Shedding Fake Tears

Wife of late ex-President Jerry John Rawlings and former First Lady of the Republic, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, has taken a swipe at the opposition NDC, accusing them of “shedding crocodile tears” over the death of her husband and seeking to profit from this predicament.

Since the death of the former President, the NDC and its elements have sought to cry the most, suggesting that they loved him more than any other, when in fact, and indeed, their conduct towards him before his passing inarguably proved otherwise.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, November 23, 2020, through the NDP, which is the party she founded after she and her husband were treated as outcasts by the NDC, the former First Lady of the Republic, said, the NDC, having vilified their founder and called him all manner of names, are now seeking desperately and opportunistically to profit from his death.

It would be recalled that former President Rawlings, had himself, on a number of occasions, accused the NDC leadership of recruiting persons whom he described as “babies with sharp teeth and old evil dwarfs” to be unleashing insults and other acidic invectives at him and others.

Whereas ex-President John Mahama once referred to Rawlings as a self-acclaimed “volta god” whose actions were not helping the party’s cause, the NDC General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, on his part, described the former President as a “barking dog” who deserved to be caged. Other leading members of the NDC were equally guilty of various acts of omissions and commissions designed to denigrate and render the late former president “useless and irrelevant” in the party and beyond.

However, since the demise of the former President on November 12, 2020, the NDC had made a surprising u-turn, claiming they loved him more than everyone else and should be allowed to mourn him as they deemed appropriate. The party had even taken issues with the Government which they accused of hijacking the funeral of their beloved founder under the guise of organizing a state burial for him.

So long as the NDC is concerned, everything regarding the funeral of Rawlings should be handed over to them to organize in a manner they desired. The NDC has even gone ahead to indicate that the party is holding Rawlings Memorial Health Walks across the 16 regions and in all the 275 Constituencies of the country.

These so called Rawlings Memorial Walks organized by the NDC is already in full gear with the full participation of John Mahama in flagrant disregard of Covid-19 health protocols. The party also cares little about the fact that Ghana is at the verge of a second wave of the deadly coronavirus, which development had compelled other political parties including the NPP to suspend all Health Walks in pursuit of the national interest.

It is on the basis of this that the wife of the former President, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings and her NDP, accused the NDC of desperately seeking to exploit the death of her husband in order to excite their base and bring back to life their unimpressive and dead campaign ahead of the December 7 elections.

Accordingly, she called on the good people of this country not to fall for such political gimmickry and sheer opportunism of the NDC; adding that, it was her late husband’s wish that the NDC lose the 2020 General Elections for the love of God and country.
