- "You're Not GRIDCO To Generate Power" – John Dumelo Told
Some Ghanaians have descended heavily on actor cum politician, John Dumelo after criticizing President Akufo-Addo's government for its inability to admit the current power outage in the country which is usually called 'Dumsor'. According to them, John Dumelo as an NDC member has no right to blame the government for the current power outage in the country since the government is handling the situation better than when NDC was in power. - Bui Power CEO Is Wrong, The Energy Minister Has Not Been Misled by GRIDCo
By all standards and with all due respect, the assertion made by the CEO of Bui Power Authority, Mr. Fred Oware, that the Minister of Energy, Hon. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has been misled by GRIDCo on power supply issues in Kumasi (in particular), which is not only an unfortunate comment but also shows the CEO's lack of understanding of the whole power issue currently happening in Ghana. In an interview with Joy News, link attached, Mr. Fred Oware said; "Let me be bold enough and say that, I think GRIDCo has misled the Minister in making such a sad statement (that Bui Dam is literally shutdown). Because as we sit here talking right now, Bui is in operation." Bui Dam is actually expected to generate about 400 megawatts but presently producing 90 megawatts to support the national grid. READ ALSO: https://www.thinknewsonline.com/post/covid-19-coda-donates-ppes-to-ga-traditional-council-ahead-of-homowo-celebrations Now, with Bui Dam producing less than 23% of its total capacity, the CEO of the power generation station says, he doesn’t understand how anybody can attribute the current-voltage control issues in Kumasi to Bui's inability to generate substantially? Really, Mr. CEO? What the CEO must understand is that, already, there were traditional voltage control issues in Kumasi, resulting from the drop-offs of the transmission lines to supply other areas coupled with the huge voltage losses due to the long distance before it gets to Kumasi, plus the fact that the growth in power demand in Kumasi has rocketed, hence, the need for Bui Dam plant to be strategically positioned at the middle belt area to augment the traditional 161kV supply to Kumasi and beyond. Therefore, if the generation capacity of the Bui Power plant reduces drastically to its barely minimum level, that automatically leads to a load shedding to be able to control the voltage level, else the entire system suffers. READ ALSO: https://www.thinknewsonline.com/post/local-news-coda-donates-5000-facemasks-150-hand-sanitizers-to-gaam-pictures The fact that Bui Authority claims that they notified GRIDCo about the challenges they will face in generating the needed capacity as of last year and evidently clear that the GRIDCo has also failed to find the alternative sources in addressing the shortcoming, does not mean that the power issue, especially in Kumasi, cannot be attributed to the Bui Dam's inability to generate. The fact is, Bui Authority has not been accused by anyone as being accountable for the recent intermittent power outages, however, due to the composition of the power generation and transmission system in Ghana, any failure of such strategic power generation plant (Bui) can cause serious devastation to almost half of the country. That is a fact. READ ALSO: https://www.thinknewsonline.com/post/facemask-coda-boss-urges-police-to-enforce-laws Therefore, to say that the Minister of Energy has been misled by GRIDCo to believe that Kumasi Power issues are substantially caused by Bui Dam's failure due to drought, simply suggests that the CEO of Bui Dam has no clue of how intertwisted and critically urgent the whole power problem is to Ghanaians. In fact, the Minister of Energy has a lot of work to do. The whole system, from VRA to GRIDCo to ECG to GPNC to TOR, needs urgent pruning. All square pegs in round holes must be eliminated to achieve efficiency and reliability, without fear or favor!! That's the only way Ghanaians can enjoy better service. READ ALSO: https://www.thinknewsonline.com/post/local-news-coda-outdoors-credit-union-to-support-informal-sector-pictures The level of failures, the chain of ineptitude, and the amount of losses in the system at all levels beats any reasonable imagination of any Energy Expert. We cannot allow this to continue. We can only hope that the ongoing 330kV/161kV transmission lines upgrades across the nation and the recent authorization signed by the Minister of Energy for GNPC to initiate the relocation of the Ameri power plant to the Ashanti Region to help prop up the voltage level in Kumasi will see an expedited progression in time. Radical overhauling is badly needed at the power sector!! - "7.5 Million Properties Identified For Unique Address System" — Bawumia
Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has inspected work on the ongoing installation of unique addresses on all 7.5 million properties across the country. The new addressing system, which leverages on the existing GhanaPost GPS system, is made up of a unique house number, street name, digital address and a QR Code containing the ownership and other details of the property, and is set to transform all aspects of national life. The first phase of the project, which began under the erstwhile Ministry of Special Development Initiatives (MDSI) and is being continued by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development in collaboration with the Land Use and Spatial Planning Authority (LUSPA), will see 4 million properties affixed with the new address plates, at no cost to the property owner. READ ALSO: https://www.thinknewsonline.com/post/shocker-fetish-priest-leaks-nude-videos-of-woman-who-wants-akufo-addo-okuapehene-others-dead The entire project is expected to be completed next year. Accompanied by the Minister for Local Government, Hon Dan Kwaku Botwe, the Managing Director of the State Housing Company, Kwabena Ampofo Appiah, and officials of LUSPA led by Mr Owusu Sekyere, the Vice President interacted with residents who had already received their unique addresses, and witnessed the fixing of plates onto properties in the Adenta Municipality on Monday, 12 April 2021. Describing the new system as “transformational”, Vice President Bawumia explained that a proper addressing system is the bedrock for accelerated national development, and is a key plank in the Akufo-Addo government’s vision to digitize the economy and all aspects of national life for the better. READ ALSO: https://www.thinknewsonline.com/post/i-thank-god-for-saving-me-from-hell-asamoah-gyan-s-ex-wife “The Government of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is trying to solve a major problem that has faced this country, and that is the address issue. There are so many properties that do not have an address. That problem hampers development. If you do not have an address how do you get an ambulance to come to your house? How do you direct them? How do you get the Fire Service to come in your time of need? How do you get the Police if for example there is a robbery taking place? If you apply for a job, or a loan, and you don’t know your address, it becomes a problem. If you order goods on the internet, e-commerce, and they want to deliver to your home, you must be able to give an address. If you rent from a landlord and Rent Control wants to know where you are, you should be able to give an address" “So we decided that we should leverage on what we have already done in the context of the Digital Address System, to provide unique addresses to every house and property in Ghana" Land Use and Spatial Planning Authority has been working very closely with the Ministry of Local Government and the Assemblies. They have identified about 7.5 million properties in Ghana, so the aim is to make sure that every one of these properties has a unique address. READ ALSO: https://www.thinknewsonline.com/post/ghanaian-journalist-bridget-otoo-mocks-sonnie-badu-amid-phd-scandal “The first phase of the project is what we are witnessing now. We have printed about 4 million of the address plates so far. What is also good is that so far we have, through the Ministry of Local Government and LUSPA, we have named every street in Ghana and this will go into the addressing system.” “This new addressing system” the Vice President emphasised, “is leveraging on the GhanaPostGPS digital addressing system to provide a unique house number, street name, digital address and a QR Code all embossed on a plate and affixed to the property to allow for easy identification. Every street in Ghana has been named, every property has an address, and in due course the plates will be affixed on them. The fixing of the plates is free. “This will provide us with a rich database for all properties in Ghana, which, combined with data from the Ghana Card, will inform policy formulation and implementation,” he explained.
