SPECIAL VOTING EXERCISE: "I will build a fire station if elected MP" - Michael Oquaye Jnr

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Dome-Kwabenya, Michael Aaron Oquaye Jr, has pledged to address the constituency's pressing needs, including the establishment of a fire station, if elected as Member of Parliament in the December 7 elections.

Speaking exclusively to Thinknewsonline.com during the ongoing Special Voting Exercise at the Kwabenya Police Station-Atomic polling centre, Mr. Oquaye Jr emphasized the urgent need for a fire service station to serve the constituency, which he described as one of the largest in Ghana.

“It is unacceptable that a constituency as populous and significant as Dome-Kwabenya does not have a fire station,” he said.

“This is a critical issue that I am committed to addressing. The recent incident at the Dome Market, where the lack of a nearby fire station worsened the situation, underscores the urgency of this need.”

Mr. Oquaye Jr also commended the Electoral Commission (EC) for maintaining fairness and vigilance during the Special Voting Exercise.

He highlighted an incident where an EC official was replaced after failing to follow proper procedures, stating, “This shows how determined the EC is to ensure transparency and integrity in this election process.”

On the upcoming general elections, he expressed confidence in a high voter turnout, describing the 88% turnout during the special voting as encouraging.

He urged voters to emulate the discipline demonstrated during the Special Voting Exercise, saying, “Voters should come, cast their ballots peacefully, and leave the rest to the counting and declaration process. It’s that simple.”

Responding to claims by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) about intensifying efforts to reclaim the Dome-Kwabenya seat, Mr. Oquaye Jr advised against aggressive tactics, recalling past instances where such approaches backfired.

“We are focused on soft power campaigning. Elections are about the will of the people, not hard rhetoric,” he remarked.

As the December 7 elections draw closer, Mr. Oquaye Jr reiterated his commitment to bringing tangible development to Dome-Kwabenya, with the construction of a fire station among his top priorities.
