Three killed in tragic road crash at Yikurigu, Upper East Region

A devastating road accident at Yikurigu near Zebilla in the Upper East Region has claimed the lives of three people, including a child, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has confirmed.


The fatal crash occurred on Saturday, June 13, 2026, along the Bolgatanga–Zebilla–Bawku highway and involved a Yutong VVIP bus and a Toyota Ciana traveling in opposite directions.


According to the GNFS, the Yutong VVIP bus was heading towards Bawku while the Toyota Ciana was en route to Bolgatanga when the two vehicles collided under circumstances that are yet to be established.

The impact of the crash resulted in the immediate deaths of three occupants of the Toyota Ciana — a man, a woman, and a child. Their bodies were recovered from the wreckage at the scene.


Three male occupants of the Yutong VVIP bus, including the driver, sustained various degrees of injuries and were rushed to the Zebilla Hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.


Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.

The Ghana National Fire Service expressed its condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery as efforts continue to uncover the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
