An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced a 33-year-old preacher, Christopher Kofi Okyere Sorkpa, to five years in prison for vandalizing vehicles at the Parliament House car park.
Sorkpa, who pleaded guilty to six counts of conspiracy and causing unlawful damage, received the sentence from the presiding judge, Samuel Bright Asiedu.
His accomplice, 41-year-old Wisdom Ahli, has been remanded into police custody pending further amendments to his charges. The case has been adjourned to January 9, 2025.
The prosecution, led by Superintendent Augustine Yirenkyi, revealed that on December 18, 2024, Sorkpa and Ahli sneaked into the Parliament House car park.
Armed with a handbag concealing an earth chisel, Sorkpa damaged the windscreens of five vehicles, including two Toyota V8s, two Toyota Camrys, and a Rav 4, all belonging to Members of Parliament and staff.
Ahli reportedly encouraged Sorkpa during the act. Both men were apprehended, and in their caution statements made in the presence of an independent witness, they admitted to the offences.
Superintendent Yirenkyi stated that after investigations, the accused were charged and arraigned.
