  • "I Did Not Personally Speak To Jean Mensa" – Kpessa-Whyte Confesses

    The second witness for the petitioner challenging results of December polls has told the Supreme Court that he did not personally speak to the Electoral Commissioner during the national collation. Dr Michael Kpessa-Whyte said while working with another colleague, Rojo Mettle-Nunoo at the EC strongroom on December 9, Jean Mensa instructed them to go and seek a conference with the 2020 NDC flagbearer, John Mahama. However, he stated that the returning officer for the presidential election did not speak to him personally.     The President of Equatorial Guinea, Teodoro Obiang Nguema has promoted his son Teodorin Nguema Obiang to the position of Vice President in charge of defense and security, according to a decree read on Wednesday on state television. “In accordance with the Basic Law of Equatorial Guinea, I appoint his Excellency Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue Vice President of the Republic,” the decree of President Obiang read. Teodorin Nguema Obiang, who is 47 years old and a possible successor to his father, previously held the position of Second Vice President since 2012.     The Minister for Information Designate, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has clarified that full-blown weddings with big party receptions have rather been banned and not the marriage ceremony as speculated by some media outlets. According to him, the ban will help reduce the spread of covid-19 among the people. Addressing Journalists on Tuesday in Accra, he said "We’ve got a lot of requests about so what if somebody is having a church service, which is allowed, and they choose to bless their marriage there as part of the church service.     The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) and the Pharmacy Council have cautioned Pharmacies and 'Over-the-Counter-Medicine-Shops' across the country to be on the alert and not end up patronizing fake and substandard Hydrogen Peroxides from unapproved sources. According to the FDA and Pharmacy Council, it has come to its notice after a joint monitoring exercise by its officers that there is a shortage of the product in pharmaceutical facilities due to panic buying.   • FDA Approves First Herbal Medicine For Clinical Trial On Covid-19

    The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) and the National Medicine Regulatory Agency (NMRA) in Ghana, have approved a herbal medicine, Cryptolepis Sanguinoleta, locally known as Nibima for clinical trials in January 2021. According to the FDA, in search of a treatment for the ongoing covid-19 pandemic, researchers from the School of Public Health at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), submitted a clinical trial application in September 2020 to assess the safety and efficacy of Cryptolepis Sanguinolenta as a potential treatment for covid-19. This level, the second within this classification, indicates that Ghana’s medicines regulatory system is well functioning and integrates all required elements to guarantee its stable performance, thereby ensuring the safety, quality and efficacy of all medical products imported, exported, manufactured or disturbed in the country including of the conduct of clinical trials” The statement also added that after a detailed assessment of the application gave the requisite regulatory authority for the conduct of the trial as per the mandate outlined under part 8 (Sections 150-166) of the Public Health Act 2012 (Act 851), which gives the Authority the legal mandate to regulate clinical trials of drugs, herbal medicinal products, cosmetics or medical devices.
