  • Tsatsu Apologizes To Jean Mensa In Court

Lead Counsel for the petitioner in the ongoing election petition hearing Mr. Tsatsu Tsikata on Monday, February 15, apologized to the Chairperson of the 1st Respondent in the case, Jean Adukwei Mensa for saying in court that she sunk low. Making a case for their move to subpoena her to testify, Mr. Tsikata said in court that “To talk about grievances of being served tea respectfully that is such a lack of truthfulness in terms of how the evidence came in. It was out of the question and he answered truthfully. “For the chairperson to descend into such triviality which was brought on by cross-examination of her own counsel that shows the depth to which she has sunk.” It was at this point that Chief Justice Anin Yeboah came to say “Mr. Tsikata the practice is that you lawyers draft affidavit in applications so please don’t let us go that far”. Following this, Mr. Tsikata said “I withdraw the statement about the depth to which she has sunk. I apologize that I used unduly strong language and I apologize to the chairperson of the 1st respondent” Mr. Tsikata told the Supreme Court that he closed the petitioner’s case because he thought the Chairperson of the 1st Respondent, Mrs. Jean Adukwei Mensa will make herself available for cross-examination. According to Mrs. Mensa, the application is not warranted by any rule of law or procedure “and the same should be dismissed by this Honourable Court”. She indicated that Mr. Mahama’s application is “creating the erroneous impression that this application is made at my behest”. READ ALSO: https://www.thinknewsonline.com/post/i-will-not-engage-in-any-public-banter-eugene-arhin-breaks-silence The Chair of the Commission explained that at no time had she informed the petitioner nor his lawyers of her desire to testify in the case. Lawyers of Mr. Mahama on Thursday, February 11 declared their intention to re-open the case in order to subpoena Mrs. Mensa as the Returning Officer of last year’s presidential elections to testify. It followed the unanimous dismissal of an earlier application to force witnesses of both respondents – EC and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo – to appear in the witness box. READ ALSO: https://www.thinknewsonline.com/post/ursula-owusu-touches-on-collins-dauda-s-parliament-attack The respondents had closed their case by voting not to present their witnesses in court. But the petitioner filed the application to get the Chair of the EC, in particular, to make an appearance in the interest of the public. In her affidavit, calling for the dismissal of the petitioner’s application, Mrs. Mensa stated: “I believe that there are more convenient fora (forums) for ventilating the so-called public interest issues and further that this should not form the basis of the Petitioner re-opening his case in a Presidential Elections Petition in Court.” READ ALSO: https://www.thinknewsonline.com/post/ceo-of-bluegrass-limited-kwadwo-darko-mensah-arrested-and-detained She expressed surprise how the petitioner, after closing his case on his own volition, will come back again to request that the case be re-open. “I am advised that even if this Court grants leave for the Petitioner to reopen its case; it ought not to cause a subpoena to be issued against me because a subpoena is issued with coercive effect. “The Honourable Court, having held that I rightly exercised the option of my right not to testify would be overriding its earlier decision to order that I be compelled to testify.” READ ALSO: https://www.thinknewsonline.com/post/ken-ofori-atta-is-not-dead-aide-confirms Source: Ghanaweb

Communications Minister-designate, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has explained what actually transpired in Parliament on January 7, 2021, that led to the assault of the Member of Parliament for Asutifi South Constituency, Collins Dauda. Ursula Owusu, the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West on January 7, 2021, during the commencement of the 8th Parliament was shoved by the Member of Parliament for Ashaiman after she picked a seat on the side dominated by the NDC MPs. Narrating the reason for her actions, she told the Appointment Committee that she shoved Collins Dauda because she assumed he was the one who instructed the MP for Ashaiman, Ernest Norgbey to pull out her chair which led to her falling on her knees in the chamber. She was later informed there was no link between the two, and she has since apologized to the MP. We entered the chamber and no seat was labeled and nobody had an idea of where to sit. In my estimation, it was supposed to be free sitting and anybody could seat anywhere. Incidentally, that was the same seat I was seated on in the house on the same day. As I sat on my seat, Collins Dauda kept asking me what are you doing here? get up and leave. Since I didn’t see anybody’s name on a seat and anybody can seat anywhere? “I was sitting here when the Member of Parliament of Ashaiman MP in the company of several other gentlemen walked up; I understand that my inference to his earlier comment and the unprovoked assault on him at the time were not linked but the chair was pulled from me and I fell on my knees and so when I got up, instinctively I made a conclusion that he (Collins Dauda) have colluded with the gentleman who did that and I said if you won’t allow me to sit on my chair then I won’t allow you sit on that chair. I am not justifying what happened but the event of January 7, 2021, got out of hands and I have apologized to Collins Dauda and I’m yet to get an apology from Ernest Norgbey who pushed the chair from under me.” She explained. • CEO of Bluegrass Limited, Kwadwo Darko-Mensah Arrested And Detained

The Chief Executive Officer of the Bluegrass Group Ltd, Kwadwo Darko-Mensah popularly referred to as Onasis has been arrested by officials of the National Investigations Bureaus (NIB) to assist in an ongoing investigation as a suspect, MyNewsGh.com can confirm. The NIB, formerly the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) arrested the businessman who is a known sympathizer of the ruling New Patriotic Party to assist in investigation over a very serious matter. Mr. Darko-Mensah Onasis is the Local Agent of an international company, Cornfield Group Ltd which was mandated in 2019 to deliver a total of eight hundred and fifty-three thousand (853,000) pieces of mathematical sets at a cost of ¢75 per unit by the Ministry of Education in September 2019 which was neither delivered on schedule or in full, MyNewsGh.com was informed. READ ALSO: https://www.thinknewsonline.com/post/registered-voters-can-access-their-details-on-the-ec-website-ussd-code-android-mobile-apps-ec The 853,000 mathematical sets were supposed to be given to students for the 2020 WASSCE. Because of this WASSCE timeline, the contract was treated as “urgent” and sole-sourced without any form of bidding in September 2019 to the company. In addition, the mathematical sets contractor Bluegrass Limited was granted a free tax waiver of $3.6 million by the government on the recommendation of Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Education Minister. The tax waiver was approved by Parliament. READ ALSO: https://www.thinknewsonline.com/post/fda-holds-talks-with-cuban-ambassador-pedro-despaigne-gonzalez-on-production-of-covid-19-vaccine Throughout the 2020 WASSCE however, no student received the “math sets” from the government. Indeed, the Institute for Education Studies (IFEST) for example questioned why the mathematical sets which were sole-sourced at a “high price” were never delivered on time for the very purpose it was tagged as “urgent” They criticize the validity of the sole sourcing procedure adopted and the 75 Ghana cedis cost because the contract can no longer be classified as an urgent need for the WASSCE candidates now. READ ALSO: https://www.thinknewsonline.com/post/politics-stop-clutching-on-straw-bribery-allegation-against-akufo-addo-won-t-wash-npp-to-ndc At ¢75 per mathematical set, the total contract came to ¢63,975,675. Bluegrass Limited failed to deliver within the agreed time. It later issued PR-statements announcing it had delivered “the first consignment” without stating any figure, even long after the WASSCE was over. It is alleged that officers of the NIB arrested Kwadwo Darko-Mensah in relation to the contract. Vetting Pop up The issue of the Mathematical sets contract and the arrest and detention of CEO of Bluegrass Ltd Kwadwo Darko-Mensah came up during the vetting of Dr Matthew Opoku-Prempeh with the former Education Minister disowning Mr. Darko-Mensah, claiming he “didn’t know him from anywhere”, claim insiders say could make the minister-designate liable to perjury. READ ALSO: https://www.thinknewsonline.com/post/i-will-not-engage-in-any-public-banter-eugene-arhin-breaks-silence Mathew Opoku Prempeh struggled to answer questions posed on the maths set matter by NDC MP Alhassan Suhuyini.
