  • Tottenham Hotspur Fires José Mourinho

Tottenham Hotspur said on Monday that it had fired José Mourinho, the manager it hired as the closest thing European soccer has to a guarantee of trophies, six days before he was to contest his first major final with the club. Spurs appointed Mourinho in November 2019 in the hope that he would turn the team into serial contenders for honors. He was, as the club’s chairman, Daniel Levy, explained, “one of the most accomplished managers in world football,” and had delivered success at every previous stop in his illustrious career, winning championships at F.C. Porto, Chelsea (twice), Inter Milan and Real Madrid. The club finished sixth last season and sits one place lower in the current standings after a run of just one win in its last five Premier League games. In that time, Mourinho also suffered what he described as one of the most humiliating nights of his career: an exit from the Europa League at the hands of Dinamo Zagreb. Tottenham’s players had been growing increasingly restless under his reign, taking particular exception at his frequent attempts to blame them for Spurs’ struggles, rather than accepting at least a portion of the responsibility for himself. Last week, when asked why his team did not have the defensive solidity of some of his championship-winning sides, he responded: “Same coach, different players.” READ ALSO: https://www.thinknewsonline.com/post/covid-19-coda-donates-ppes-to-ga-traditional-council-ahead-of-homowo-celebrations Levy decided on Friday night — after a 2-2 draw with Everton — to part company with Mourinho, appointing two of his coaching staff, Ryan Mason and Chris Powell, to take charge of the club for the remainder of the season. Their first week will end with Sunday’s league cup final, the first domestic trophy to be decided in England, against Manchester City — precisely the sort of occasion that Mourinho was hired to reach and to win. He will not, now, be given the chance. • "NDC Shouldn't Dictate Our Flagbearer For Us" - NPP MP

The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Achiase Constituency, Kofi Ahenkorah Marfo, says the opposition party’s unnecessary tag of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as an Akan party shouldn’t worry NPP. According to him, if the NPP is forced by the NDC to pick an incompetent person to lead the party in its 2024 election bid, that will be a huge blow to NPP. “We shouldn’t let that unnecessary tag as an Akan party worry us. The Akan Presidents come to power and perform very well and they don’t discriminate”, he said. READ ALSO: https://www.thinknewsonline.com/post/facemask-coda-boss-urges-police-to-enforce-laws As a democratic party, he insists the NPP is open to allowing anyone competent to lead the party regardless of tribe. “All who want to lead the NPP have the equal opportunity to do so. As a democratic party, all contestants need to contest for the position. If you want to be President, then you need to prove yourself and nothing more. The NPP doesn’t select a flagbearer based on tribal lines. Regardless of the MP believing in the competency of the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, he agrees Dr. Bawumia still needs to prove himself as to why he should be made the NPP’s 2024 flagbearer over others. That is if the Vice President is interested in the position. In an interview with Samuel Eshun on the Happy Morning Show aired on e.TV Ghana and Happy FM, Kofi Ahenkorah Marfo admitted tribes play a role in Ghana’s voting pattern. He however clarified that a competent and well marketed presidential candidate from whichever tribe can win the 2024 election for the NPP. “The NDC must not be listened to. We must not panic and give Bawumia the work because of what the NDC is saying. We will not allow the NDC to dictate our flagbearer to us. Listening to them will be to our disadvantage”, he reiterated. • Israel Worried Biden Administration Will Rush to Revive Iran Nuclear Deal - Reports

Tehran has repeatedly slammed the United States and its allies for their "double standards", blaming the West for attacking Iran's nuclear program - which, Iran insists, is designed to serve purely peaceful purposes - while ignoring Israel's alleged possession of a whole arsenal of nukes. Israeli senior officials reportedly shared their concerns with Channel 12 about the Biden administration's willingness to revive the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) "at any price." On Sunday, a high-level security cabinet meeting took place regarding the 2015 Iran deal, which the former US President Donald Trump ditched in 2018, slapping harsh economic sanctions against Tehran as part of a so-called "maximum pressure" campaign against the Islamic Republic. READ ALSO: https://www.thinknewsonline.com/post/local-news-coda-donates-5000-facemasks-150-hand-sanitizers-to-gaam-pictures "Both sides, the Americans and the Iranians, want a deal. The Iranians smell that the Americans want an agreement at any price," The Times of Israel quoted an official. Washington has also played with an idea of expanding the 2015 agreement. Tehran, in return, has insisted that the deal should be preserved in its original form. It has also repeatedly stated that the US - because Washington was the one that left the deal in 2018 - must lift sanctions against Iran in the first place. The news also comes amid the incident at Natanz nuclear facility last Sunday, which Iranian officials have described as "nuclear terrorism," insisting Israel was responsible for the attack. Tel-Aviv has avoided denying the allegation. However, The New York Times reported, citing its sources, that the Israeli government was behind the nuclear blackout. Israel has repeatedly expressed concerns about the United States potentially rejoining the 2015 agreement, voicing fears about Tehran's alleged willingness to develop nuclear weapons. Israeli officials have called for either abandoning the deal forever, or expanding its scope to include other states, such as Israel and the Gulf States. READ ALSO: https://www.thinknewsonline.com/post/covid-19-coda-donates-ppes-to-ga-traditional-council-ahead-of-homowo-celebrations On Inauguration Day, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu congratulated Joe Biden on assuming the post and expressed hopes that Washington would cooperate with Israel in what he called confronting "common challenges, chief among them the threat posed by Iran." In early March, Defense Minister Benny Gantz stated that the Israeli military was updating its plans to prepare for potential strikes on nuclear facilities in Iran and had already identified "numerous targets" within a country. Following Gantz's remarks, the Iranian Defense Minister vowed to level Tel Aviv and Haifa - the two biggest cities in Israel - if the Jewish State attempts to attack the Islamic Republic. Tensions in the Middle East intensified in November following the assassination of Iranian top nuclear physicist Mo Fakhrizadeh. Tehran has blamed his death on the Israeli spy agency Mossad, while Tel-Aviv has refused either to confirm or deny its alleged involvement. However, back in 2018, Netanyahu spoke at a conference showing a photo of Fakhrizadeh who he claimed was head of a unit within the Iranian military allegedly working to develop a nuke.
