The Design and Technology Institute (DTI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ho Technical University to support the training of thousands of Ghanaian youth in Technical and Vocational Training and Education (TVET). The agreement will lead to the enhancement of the University’s TVET curriculum with the inclusion of DTI’s Precision Quality (PQ) training, the upskilling of instructors, and academic faculty to prepare students for the world of work. The initiative is part of a three-year “Transforming youth TVET livelihoods for sustainable jobs’’ partnership between DTI and the Mastercard Foundation, as part of the Foundation’s Young Africa Works strategy in Ghana. The program will provide 40,000 direct and indirect work opportunities for young people in the country. CEO of DTI, Constance Swaniker said “We are delighted to be partnering with the Ho Technical University to incorporate the PQ curriculum, which has been carefully designed with academia and industry professionals, to equip young people with the skills required to better transition into the world of work. The arrangement with the University is a major step to ensuring that we maintain the same level of standards in TVET education delivery across the country. We will continue to work with our stakeholders to develop programs that meet the needs of industry and open up opportunities for young people,” As part of the partnership, DTI provided two ultra-modern TVET workshops equipped with state-of-the-art precision hand tools to the University and the Kwanesco Engineering Company to ensure students and instructors received hands-on experience in Precision Quality training. Vice-Chancellor of Ho Technical University, Prof. Ben Q. Honyenuga said “Ghana cannot go on with business as usual. We must unlearn the sub-standard industry habits, re-learn new skills, adopt Precision Quality as a movement, and implement it to reverse the unemployment issues of Ghana and Africa as a whole. This partnership with DTI enables us to deliver our mandate of training skilled and competent young people to boost the socio-economic development of our country,” The Ho Technical University is the first TVET institution to roll out the implementation of the PQ curriculum following a ‘Train the Trainer’ workshop organized in March and April of this year with 12 Academic and Business Scale Advisors from Ho, Kumasi, and Accra. The PQ curriculum consists of five training modules, including: Change to Grow, Process Integration, People and Team Development, Health and Safety in the Workplace, and Managing Quality and Customer Relations. Education and Skills Lead at the Mastercard Foundation, James McIntyre said "Creating sustainable pathways to employment starts with the right skills training and education. We are excited to see the adoption of PQ training into the curriculum of Technical Universities and institutions to better prepare young Ghanaians for the world outside of the classroom,” President of the Master Craft Persons Association in Ho and CEO of Kwanesco Engineering Company, Nelson Kwame Attah, commended DTI for upgrading their workshop to support the training of Master Craft persons and SMEs in Ho. Background Design and Technology Institute (DTI) is a state-of-the-art Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) for young people. • OPINION: Apostles Of Righteousness And Twisted Moral Compasses: Where Are The Wise/Courageous Men?

I am highly appalled at the highest level of hypocrisy exhibited by some “Men of God” under Ghana’s 4th Republic: Very Rev. Professor Emmanuel Martey, Pastor Mensah Otabil etc. This comes on the back of a critical analysis of the sermons by the above-mentioned men of God between 2011 and December 2016 and the sudden shift in tone of their sermons from leadership problems in Ghana to Ghanaians being the problem. My frustration and disappointment is succinctly summarized by what Former Prez. Mahama said on March 21st 2018. He quizzed, it’s unfortunate that “something is pardonable when one government is in power but when another is in power it’s unpardonable. Things that the media would have been so loud about under my administration, it happens every day and it’s like it’s business as usual. That is the hypocrisy of our civil society and religious and traditional leaders, everybody is quiet, suddenly some say they don’t watch TV anymore and that they watch animals,” However, contrary to his assertion of am “now watching animals kingdom on international tv stations”, Paster Mensah Otabil in October 2016, prior to the December 2016 general elections, admonished his congregation to be interested in the politics of Ghana and be critical observers and contributors. This is what he said, “in the past, Christians have pulled away from a lot of the systems but we have to find a way to step into it and redeem it…we have to step into the corridors of power and not just stop reading and watching them" I ask, has something changed now, the reason he is personally not interested in the politics of the state (Ghana)? And is it okay to preach to your congregation to do “A” whiles you do “B” as a Man of God? Speaking at the International Central Gospel Church’s Greater Works Summit in 2013 in Accra, Pastor Mensah Otabil attributed the problem of Ghana to ‘leadership crises’. He argued “as we see in Ghana today there are many people experiencing frustration and indignity of their life, they have been reduced to begging for their daily sustenance due to lack of vision and poor governance”. Similarily, in February 2016 Paster Mensah Otabil in one of his sermons and in what seemed liked inciting Ghanaians against the then government argued “We can’t just be happy because a road has been tarred. We can’t just be happy that we didn’t have electricity now we have electricity. We can’t be happy with minimals”, he said, adding: “…citizens must have an appetite for better,”. If what Pastor Mensah Otabil said (“The problem of Africa is because folly is set in dignity and the wise have been reduced to nothing. People who have no business telling anybody anything shoot their mouths everyday and people who have something to say shut up every day and the rest look on”) in one of his sermons in October 2016 is anything to go by, then I ask, Pastor Otabil, is it that currently, “folly is set in dignity and the wise have been reduced to nothing”, the reason for your deliberate silence even in the face of our current caving leadership crises, etc.? Quoting Sam Jonah, I ask again, “is [your] defeaning silence suggestive that [you] are no longer concerned about the issues [you] complained about not too long ago, particularly when those issues persist… The molestation of and in some cases…, corruption, the harassment of Anti-corruption agents”. Why were you soo vocal and preaching doom between 2012 and December 2016? Did anything changed and has anything changed now? Interestingly and very predictable is the rush to his defence by his congregation and close acquaintances. However, and before you do that emotionally, without a critical consideration of the issues raised above, I hope you don’t want to be remember as one of “foolish born again christians, who are believers and not thinkers... you lie to them, they believe.. & they are the easiest to deceive... wake up Ghana”. “In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends” and the ‘Good Men’ of our Republic- Martin Luther King, Jr. Where has the moral compass tilted to? My next episode will be on Prof. Emmanuel Martey (Former Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana) Emmanuel Osei, Policy Analyst | Researcher | Management Consultant Disclaimer: Views expressed are solely that of the author. • Achimota Preparatory School Locked Up By GES After Court Order

Officials of the Ghana Education Service (GES) in the Okaikwei North District have locked up offices and classrooms of the Achimota Preparatory School. This follows a court order received by the GES to take over the management of the facility. The ruling was given on March 2020, according to a statement from the GES. READ ALSO: https://www.thinknewsonline.com/post/eradicating-poverty-coastal-development-authority-unveils-kayayei-empowerment-policy-pictures The Service explained that the land and building being occupied by the Achimota Preparatory School formed part of Achimota School Land per the Achimota School Ordinance No. 7 & 1948. The preparatory school was for some expatriates during the colonial era and was established for their children, staff of Achimota School, and the University College of the Gold Coast. Over time, the expatriates left the management of the school in the hands of locals who, from time to time, form a management committee to run the school as a private institution. APS has been operating that model to date. READ ALSO: https://www.thinknewsonline.com/post/local-news-coda-outdoors-credit-union-to-support-informal-sector-pictures The GES explained that “sometime in the 1960s, Achimota School granted a lease to APS to allow it to operate from the premises, which expired in 1970.” In January 2020, amid the contentions, the Parent-Teacher Association of the Achimota Preparatory School said it would resist attempts by the GES to take over the school. It has also accused the GES of acting in bad faith in the matter. In a petition sent to the Commission on Human Rights And Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) on the 31st December 2019 and sighted by Citi News, the PTA of the Achimota Preparatory School said the Greater Accra Regional Director of Education, Monica Ankrah invited the management of the school for a meeting at her office, during which “she sought to use her position to bully and threaten that our school, a legally registered corporate [organization] will be taken over by the GES on the 27th January 2020.” READ ALSO: https://www.thinknewsonline.com/post/facemask-coda-boss-urges-police-to-enforce-laws Ms. Ankrah, according to the petition, had claimed that “Achimota Preparatory and JHS had ceased making lease payments to the Achimota Senior School since the 1970s hence the government will take over the school lands including our investment on the land,” a claim the Achimota Preparatory School described as false. In the said petition, the Achimota Preparatory School claimed Ms. Ankrah declared that the school must wind up by the 24th of January 2020 and be ready to be taken over on the 27th of January 2020. • "The Nuisance Of The Talentless Ghanaian Celebrity" - Dr. Richard Tia, KNUST

A celebrity is a person who is widely recognized and commands a degree of public and media attention. Celebrities are famous, popular, and celebrated. Celebrities are adored by the public – children stand in long queues for their autographs and adults spend money for their memorabilia. Celebrities are trendsetters and they are role models for youngsters. Children crave to be like them. In Ghana, most of our celebrities are in the movie and showbiz industry. Never mind that for some of them you would be hard-pressed to name a single movie they have starred in to qualify as movie stars and never mind that for some of them the only reason you know they are movie stars is because they say so in their social media profiles. READ ALSO: https://www.thinknewsonline.com/post/local-news-coda-donates-5000-facemasks-150-hand-sanitizers-to-gaam-pictures Celebrities are aware of their fame and popularity and they use it to great effect. Some parlay their popularity into careers in politics (eg. John Dumelo) and others use it for product endorsement and advertisement – we all remember OJ Simpson and the Hertz commercial; Cleveland Mitchel (Michael Power) and the Guinness advertisement; Michael Jackson and Pepsi; and David Beckham and H&M. Others use their influence for social causes – Actress Yvonne Nelson organized one of the most successful demonstrations against dumsor and the Mahama government in 2015, and all she did was rely on her celebrity status. Celebrities sell an image, even if that image is sometimes not worth emulating. Because celebrities directly influence young people, a certain standard of conduct is expected of them. This is not written and cast in stone but as a civilized society, that expectation is implied and understood. But there comes a time when a celebrity puts up conduct that is seen as falling below the moral standards of the people, and usually when people complain there is a counter-argument that these celebrities are adults and are at liberty to do what they please with their lives. It is important to note that when people complain, they are not trying to dictate to the celebrity how to live their lives – you cannot teach an old dog new rules – but they are telling young people who are usually of the impression that celebrities are demigods who can do no wrong, that a particular act by a celebrity is not worth emulating. It is usually to underscore the point that a particular act by a celebrity is not necessarily the best course of action and you mustn’t be pressured into wanting to do the same to appear trendy. This is not out of the way in a democratic and civilized society. If you are going to take center stage in my TV and radio, I should at least be allowed to critique what you say and do on TV. That is not dictating to you how you should live your life, I am just providing an alternative opinion and standard on public behavior. When you mount the stage and yell, “make some noise” and the people go delirious and shout their voices hoarse you are happy, but when you do something the people consider stupid and they criticize you, you claim they are trying to dictate to you! READ ALSO: https://www.thinknewsonline.com/post/facemask-coda-boss-urges-police-to-enforce-laws About a few years ago a celebrity attended an event in the National Theatre almost naked and when people complained she and her supporters said no one can tell her how to appear in public and those who don’t want to see her could turn off their TV. Not so fast, lady! I paid for my TV license and you cannot force me to put off my TV because of your scrawny nakedness. I should let youngsters watch know that I do not think this is a standard they should aspire to. So let our so-called celebrities know this: you can do anything you want to and with your bodies but if you are going to be parading on my TV, I should at least have a right to tell you that what you are doing is not worth emulating. Some time ago a certain celebrity flooded social media with her nude pictures under the banner of feminism. Don’t get me wrong, feminism is a noble cause. Men and women are equal in all respects and must be treated that way at all times but I cannot see how taking nude pictures in your garden and posting them on Instagram advances equality. What is “bold” and “confident” about bearing your vitals for the world to see? Prehistoric man roamed naked in the jungles of Africa and Asia for generations. We moved from that to fig leaves and animal skins, and then to cotton, wool, and silk, and now to synthetic fabrics like polyester. How can you take humanity back a thousand years and call it boldness? There is this funny notion in Ghanaian showbiz that there is nothing like bad publicity and that all publicity is to an artiste’s advantage. Well, that is untrue. If you have no talent to show but you nevertheless want to be in the public eye then of course anything goes as long as it helps put you in the news but if you have the talent to show, you want to showcase the good stuff and you wouldn’t want anything to detract from that. When I was growing up my main music idol Bob Marley had just passed but Lucky Dube was around and his talent was so palpable that he didn’t need any media shenanigans to attract attention. Cecil Dion was so talented that she needed no media shenanigans to sell records and fill seats. Back home in Ghana, the likes of Fred Amugi, Brew Riverson Jr and Grace Nortey did not need to show their nakedness on red carpets to garner following. What we have now are talentless wannabes who have taken the mantra “sex sells” a little too far. If your selling point is your body and vital statistics and you parade that on TV and social media, then when you begin to develop cellulite on your thighs and people point to it, you cannot complain of being body-shamed. It was you who made your body the center of attention in the first place. READ ALSO: https://www.thinknewsonline.com/post/local-news-coda-outdoors-credit-union-to-support-informal-sector-pictures It has now emerged that the celebrity referred to above may have been suffering from a mental illness and her colleagues are now arguing that society should have offered her help sooner rather than criticizing her. How was society to know when the line between madness and saneness has been growing ever so thin? And where are those who were defending her claiming she has the right to do whatever she wants with and to herself? Maybe it is about time we refocus the debate on who to celebrate. If I were a young girl I would look up to Justice Joyce Adeline Bamford-Addo, the first female speaker of the parliament of Ghana; I would look up to Justice Georgina Theodora Wood, the first female Chief Justice of the Republic of Ghana; I would look up to Justice Sophia Abena Akuffo, current Chief Justice of Ghana; I would look up to Professor Florence Abena Dolphyne, the first female Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana; I would look up to Professor Victoria Pearl Dzogbefia, the first Ghanaian female full professor in a scientific discipline; I would look up to Professor Aba Bentil Andam, a nuclear physicist and first female president of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences; and I would look up to Professor Naa Afarley Sackeyfio and Ama Ata Aidoo, noted playwrights. But how am I supposed to know of them and look up to them when all the media talks about and celebrate are talentless half-naked men and women prancing about? Shalom! • Four Ways One Can Differentiate Love From Lust, According To A Professor

The beginning of a new romantic relationship is an exciting time - and falling in love can be a life-changing experience. However, at the start of a relationship, when everything is fun and new, it can be hard to tell whether it’s love or lust as the emotions associated with both feelings are quite similar. Fortunately, according to a sociology professor who has studied hundreds of couples, there are four key differences that can help you decipher whether you are falling in love or just in lust. READ ALSO: https://www.thinknewsonline.com/post/eradicating-poverty-coastal-development-authority-unveils-kayayei-empowerment-policy-pictures Terri Orbuch, a therapist, sociology professor, and author of 5 Simple Steps To Take Your Marriage From Good To Great and Finding Love Again: 6 Simple Steps To a New and Happy Relationship, revealed the signs in a TED talk at Oakland University - and they will change the way you think about love. According to Orbuch, the first sign that what you are experiencing is love rather than lust is connection. More specifically, a desire for connection between your partner and other important people in your life. READ ALSO: https://www.thinknewsonline.com/post/local-news-coda-outdoors-credit-union-to-support-informal-sector-pictures While lust may see you want to forge a deeper connection one-on-one with your partner, if it’s love, you will want those important to you to love your partner as well. The next clue is how you speak of your relationship as word-choice can offer a deeper insight into your true feelings. According to Orbuch, if you continue to say “I” rather than “we,” it is more likely that lust is the driving force in the relationship because two people in love often think of themselves in terms of a pair. READ ALSO: https://www.thinknewsonline.com/post/facemask-coda-boss-urges-police-to-enforce-laws The cartoons perfectly sum up relationships. Self-disclosure is the third indicator, with love encouraging people to reveal all parts of themselves, whereas people in lust will likely reveal things about themselves at a surface level, such as favorite hobbies or foods. If it’s love, you will be more inclined to share at a deeper level. READ ALSO: https://www.thinknewsonline.com/post/local-news-coda-donates-5000-facemasks-150-hand-sanitizers-to-gaam-pictures The final difference is impact or influence, according to Orbuch, who explained that love often means another person can have an influence on your own life. She gives the example of a job offer in another state. If it is love, you would be more likely to consider your options if it meant leaving your partner, whereas lust would likely not have a substantial impact on your decision. You can also rule out love if it’s your first time meeting someone as love, at first sight, doesn’t actually exist, according to psychologists at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands, who previously found the phenomenon is actually just feelings of strong physical attraction. • OPINION: Gyata Cement Finally On The Market

Finally, a fully owned Ghanaian cement factory, has started production. I am not just happy for the owners of the company, but for Ghana. There are few goods whose importation erodes all our gains in foreign exchange. These are the importation of rice, sugar, oil, tin tomatoes, fabrics and a few more, which includes cement . This was the main reason why the NDC administration vigorously embarked on local production of some products like sugar , tin tomatoes, rice and what have you. Today , the cedi to dollar is hovering around 5.8 to 6 Ghana cedis after Bawumiah handed the key to the IGP . Fighting this menace will not take any "long talk" prayers or accusing political opponents. It will also not need the dollar to be locked up in any cell!!! What can save our currency is what GYATA CEMENT has done. Local production of what we need. Mr Dan Lartey of the GCPP may his soul rest in perfect peace campaigned for 12 years on a single message; grow what you eat, and eat what you grow. "3korm di hen" meaning we are hungry in fante, as he normally added. Gyata cement should have been on the market 3 years ago, if not for petty partisan politics. I wonder how many workers they would have been employing by now, working at its peak 24/7. Today, cement is being imported from many countries around the globe including faraway China. The reason why I am happy to share this information with you. Let us determine to support our own. Its unfortunate how we attack businesses in Ghana when there is change in government. Micro finance companies, radio stations, banks, insurance companies and others. As a people, we should make a conscious effort to protect our own. I pray for the workers and managers of this company, and all Ghanaian own businesses and those which are yet to come up. Let our children's children also have the privilege of working in Ghanaian owned companies that have survived for 100 years and counting . It will be tough, and the road will be muddy and rough but we must get there. Gyata cement; building for generations. I wish all Ghanaian entrepreneurs better days ahead. Kun fa Yakun.
