The Walewale District Police Command in the North East Region has intensified patrols following a robbery attack that left a mobile money agent dead. The attack, believed to have occurred on Wednesday night November 25, 2021, also left a 37-year-old man severely wounded. “The Walewale Police Command has intensified patrols and anti-robbery operations within the West Mamprusi Municipal area and beyond to get these armed robbers arrested and to safeguard the safety of the area”, a signed statement from the police said. It added that, according to a police report, the robbery gang also attacked some shops and made away with an unspecified amount of money and other items. The Upper East Regional Coordinating Council has banned the wearing of smock in Bawku in a bid to prevent criminals and unscrupulous persons from concealing weapons in them to harm people. The Council said its decision stemmed from the fact that some unscrupulous were hiding arms and ammunition in smocks to attack residents. “Following the decision taken by REGSEC during the emergency meeting, the wearing of smock in Bawku Township has been banned with immediate effect. This was necessitated by the fact that criminals or unscrupulous elements hide arms and ammunition in smocks and attack opponents or innocent civilians,” a portion of a statement from the Council read. The Council has asked MUSEC to ensure that the directive is enforced. The smock is a major cultural identity of the people of the Upper East Region and other regions of Northern Ghana. The smock is not only worn by many northerners and people from other ethnic groups in Ghana, but its production is also a major economic activity in parts of the Upper East Region and elsewhere in the north of the country. Curfew imposed A curfew has also been imposed on some communities in Bawku due to the growing threat of insecurity. This was contained in a statement signed by the Minister for Interior. “The Minister for the Interior has on the advice of the Upper East Regional Security Council and by Executive Instrument imposed a curfew on Bawku Municipality and its environs in the Upper East Region from 4:00 pm to 6:00 am effective, Wednesday 24th November 2021. “Government calls on the Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth and people of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them as well as to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace,” the statement said. The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Samuel A. Jinapor has called on Members of Parliament and Ghanaians particularly the youth to support the 2022 budget. The Hon. Minister described the budget as one that is “laying the building blocks of hope” for economic recovery. The Minister, who is also the Member of Parliament for Damongo constituency, said the "Agenkwa" budget is surely going to build an entrepreneurial nation. “This budget statement and economic policy seeks to give solutions in dealing with the Ghanaian peculiar situation which has arisen out of the Covid-19 pandemic and, if the budget is supported, will offer recovery and unleash jobs for the youth and prosperity for the good people of our country,” he said. Ghanaian Musician, Peter Famiyeh Bozah known in showbiz as Fameye has disclosed on live TV saying his parents died when he was one year old. According to the musician, he didn't feel the pain of their demise since his grandmother took him as her own and provided for him all he wanted as a child. Speaking on 'Just Being Us', a lifestyle TV show, he said "I Was 1 When My Parents Died. There has been so many stories about their death. Each and every time, I hear different story. My mum died first and later my dad also passed away. I didn't feel it that much because, I was staying with my grandmother and she was making me feel like she was my mother" He added that his grandmother ensured he atttended one of the best schools in Bogoso and and had quality education. "She virtually took me everywhere she went so I assumed she was my mother until there was a PTA day where our parents had to join the bus. I sat on my granny and my colleagues made fun of me, saying my mother was too old" He mentioned that at age 9, he eft for Accra to live with hus Auntie and that was were the struggle began. "And that was when I heard that the woman I lived with at Bogoso was not my mother but grandmother. Staying with my Aunty strengthen me a lot. I earlier on felt she was maltreating me but rather, she was helping me" Fameye revealed that his Aunty's kids were treat as Prince and Princesses while he was like a lost child in a strange land. "She had sons and daughters but Peter was the one sweeping, fetching water. I had to do even extra work for people in order to get money. I woke up at 4am, pushed my wheelbarrow from house to house collecting rubbish and that got me something little. Looking at where I live and how unpresentable I looked, it was mind-boggling. My uncle brought me here and if you see the car, one will not believe, that I was that miserable" Explaining further, he noted that he had to complete SHS before he got to know that both of his parents were dead. The Minister for Energy, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has charged the Electricity Market Oversight Panel (EMOP) to channel its energies and synergies towards ensuring that the country’s power situation remains stable. Dr. Prempeh made this point when he inaugurated the panel at a short ceremony at the Ministry in Accra this morning. The Electricity Regulations, 2008, L.I. 1937 established the Ghana Wholesale Electricity Market (GWEM) to facilitate wholesale trading of electricity and the provision of ancillary services in the National Interconnected Transmission System (NITS). The L.I. 1937 further established the Electricity Market Oversight Panel (EMOP) to supervise the administration and operation of the GWEM. Congratulating them on their nomination to the panel, the Minister stated he believed in their collective ability to contribute to the country’s energy sector and reminded them of their responsibilities. “You would among others, seek to monitor the general performance of electricity transmission, ensure smooth and efficient operation of the wholesale electricity market, monitor pre-dispatch schedules and ensure long-term optimisation of hydro-electricity supply sources in the country. This also includes rallying around the stakeholders of the electricity value chain for a seamless service delivery”, Dr. Prempeh stated. Tracing the background to the EMOP, the Minister stated that as part of efforts to improve the governance and operations of the electricity sector, the first NPP administration under President Kufuor ensured that L.I 1937 was passed which provided for the implementation of a Wholesale Electricity Market to facilitate wholesale electricity trading. This was also to allow for private sector investment and competition in the procurement of electricity in Ghana. He further stated that the NPP has always believed in the private sector as the engine of growth and hence participation in this critical sector of the economy. He also reminded them of their watchdog role and stated that his doors were always open to frank discussions that would move the country’s electricity market and the energy sector as a whole forward. Quagraine assured the Minister on behalf of his colleagues that they would strive to deliver their mandate and justify the confidence reposed in them by their appointment. According to him, his mother took such decision after she was abandoned and left to her fate after she got pregnant with Gospel Musician. Speaking on 'Just Being Us', a lifestyle show on Think Tv, he said "My mum was my everything, the bond I share with her was so much that it us very difficult to seperate us. My dad left her when I was in her womb. She tried to abort me thrice and I never came" He further disclosed that his mother had to go through ordeals as she also lost the dad of her second after childbirth. Noble Nketia described his mother as industrious adding that she did everything to ensure that he and his sister had quality education and a good life. "My mother opened my first bank account for me because she felt, I was so young" The celebrated gospel musician also ceased the opportunity to express his condolences to all persons who have lost their loved ones. Ghanaian Media Personality, Empress Neeta has revealed that her beloved mother got bedridden for 7 years before passing unto glory. According to her, the 7-years were unbearable adding that the family had to go all length to cure her late mother but all efforts failed. Speaking on 'Just Being Us', a lifestyle program on Think Tv, she said "My mum was bedridden for 6 to 7 years. My granny had to come in. She is like my mummy now. She took care of my mother and ensure she was ok. Places that we weren't supposed to go to we went just because we wanted her to be well" She further revealed that it all began with her late mother falling sick after her step father died. "She started thinking and I think depression set in. I visited her one day and she was bathing, I heard her stream and I rushed to her and she has slipped. We took her to the hospital and they said her bp had risen" Empress Neeta told host, MzGee that her late mother was admitted at the cocoa clinic but after sometime was discharged. "After sometime, things got better but all of a sudden things changed again. We had to take her to places, we went as far as the psychiatric hospital. That day I was so sad and was asking why am I bring my mum here. So if she is well, then what is going on again" she said. "My mum fell again and this time, she could not get up again. She got bedridden, I was then in SHS. I completed University and she was still the same" She revealed that as part of getting cure for her mother, the family had to travel some spiritual places. "We even went to a place in Konogo, Volta and other places, we were just spending money. At a point, I told God if he know he will not heal my mum, he should just take her away. All these sufferings for 7 years was just too much" "I was in school and at Multimedia. You know how stressful working there. I, one day went to visit her and that was when I realised that I was pregnant with my son. When I got there the very woman who likes teasing was so calm and was not talking to me. She was looking like a baby" "I went back to my baby daddy because I had just realised that I was pregnant, I didn't know what to do because I was not prepared. At his end, I was asleep and he woke me up saying people keep calling my phone, I woke up to 23 missed calls from my aunties, brothers and others" "When my brother called next, he told me, mum was dead. On-Air Media Personality, Gloria Akpene Nyarku-Acquah known in showbiz as MzGee has revealed that her mother died from cancer of the lungs. According to her, the condition left her mother in an uncomfortable stage which made she and the family very sad. Speaking on Just Being Us, a lifestyle program on Think Tv, she said "My mum died in 2002 when I had completed Senior High School. I was the one who took her to the hospital but unfortunately she didn't come back alive. When we went to the village, we told that her stomach has swollen" "I was told when she come to the village, she never came out" MzGee further revealed that her laye mother was transferred to the Hohoe General Hospital but later was transferred to Accra because the hospital lacked tools. She also mentioned that the health practitioners described her mum's case as condemned. "But since I wanted her alive, we organised a bus and came to 37 Military Hospital and a lot really happened. My mother was diagnosed of cancer of the lungs and so it was a condemned case" MzGee also disclosed that her late mother became skinny with only her stomach becoming big. "My mum died on 4th November, 2003. I was told when she died, they got 34 buckets of water from the tummy. It was really sad. I was 17 and my dad was outside the country" she concluded. A spokesperson of the ride-hailing company announced on Monday that users of the app in Ontario, Canada would be able to place orders for cannabis and it would be delivered to them. The spokesperson, according to CNN, said Uber Eats would list cannabis retailer Tokyo Smoke on its marketplace on Monday after which customers can place orders from the app and then pick it up at their nearest Tokyo Smoke store. The introduction of the new service follows an earlier announcement by Uber’s CEO Dara Khosrowshahi in April saying his outfit was waiting for all legal heddles in the United States to be cleared to extend the cannabis delivery there. Canada has legalized the recreational use of cannabis, so Uber is operating in a safe market. CNN reports the spokesperson as having said on Monday that its partnership with Tokyo Smoke will help Canadian adults purchase safe, legal cannabis, which will go a long way to help in combating illegal sale which accounts for over 40% of all non-medical cannabis market in Canada. It is reported that Global cannabis stocks tracker MJ ETF climbed 2%, while Uber's shares were up 1.2% at $44.78 in premarket trading. Cannabis sales in Canada will total $4 billion in 2021 and are forecast to grow to $6.7 billion in 2026, according to data from industry research firm BDS Analytics, reports say. A 14-year-old juvenile and four other suspects have been arrested for carrying out robbery activities on highways linking Nkoranza and Techiman in the Bono East Region and the Ejura Sekyedumase Municipal area of the Ashanti Region. The four other suspects are Ajara Sagu, Rashid Ibrahim, Ibrahim Iddrisu, and Musah Arijuma. They were arrested by the police in Ejura on 16 November 2021, after general police surveillance was conducted on their activities. A spot search was carried out on the suspects and the juvenile which led to the recovery of ten different cell phones, an infinix charger, and a lady’s handbag. Similar incidents The police in the Ashanti Region have shot dead two robbers who were robbing traders on the Manso-Nkwanta road. They also retrieved an AK-47 assault rifle and arrested one of the armed robbers. “Today, the Ashanti Regional Police Patrol team gunned down two armed robbers, arrested one, and retrieved an AK 47 assault rifle when the team encountered an armed gang robbing traders on the Manso-Nkwanta road,” the police posted on Facebook. “We will get these criminally minded people one after the other to make our communities safe.” Buokrom The anti-robbery task force of the Ashanti Regional Police Command also shot dead three suspected armed robbers in an intelligence-led operation in Buokrom Estate last week. The suspects were among an armed gang who engaged the police in a shootout in the town. However, the police did manage to arrest one of them, an official statement said. “Police in the Ashanti Region on Thursday, 4 November 2021. undertook an intelligence-led operation that has resulted in the arrest of one robbery suspect and the death of three other suspects who sustained gunshot wounds during the operation.” “Following the intelligence received that an attack was being planned on a businessman at Buokrom Estate, the Regional Police anti-Robbery Taskforce personnel mounted a search screening operation of all vehicles entering the estate. During the search, the four suspects who were in a car attempted to fire at the personnel who were undertaking the operation, ” the statement added. The personnel fired back injuring three of the men who later died from the gunshot wounds at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. One suspect connected to the planned robbery was arrested.
