"We Are Working Hard To Bring UTAG Back To Classrooms" - Yaw Adutwum


The Minister for Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum has expressed worry over the strike action of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) as he says, the ministry is working tirelessly to get the Teachers back to the classrooms.


According to him, the Ministry is putting in all necessary efforts in place to resolve the issues being raised by the Teachers for them to get back to the classrooms.


The Minister was speaking to the media at the Information Ministry's Meet the Press Series encounter today addressing matters relating to the education sector and most importantly the strike action of the teacher union.


The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) strike action has entered the 3rd week over concerns that, the government and the National Labour Commission (NLC) showing luck of will to resolve the matter.


The MP for Bosomtwe Constituency, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum noted that, he has the issues of the teachers at heart and will ensure that its resolved for them to get back to the classrooms.


Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum added that, he has the concerns and welfare of Teachers at heart and therefore he is ensuring that all major concerns especially promotions and welfare is addressed.


In other developments, the Minister for Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum has revealed that, the decision to suspend the semester system that brought lots of brouhaha was due to the concerns of the teaching body.


The decided to withdraw the semester system after they had complains that, vast majority of the teachers were against the it therefore leading to the cancellation of the system.


It will be recalled that, the decision of the ministry and the Ghana Education System (GES) to introduce a semester system was greeted with massive opposition from the teaching body and various CSO's.


The MP for the Bosomtwe Constituency, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum stated that, there is no changes that either the semester or trimester system brings to the results of the students but it was just for convenience purpose but since it was not welcomed that's why if was suspended.


Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum noted that, whatever he seeks to do is to work to make the teachers happy and willing to be committed to work thus the decision to suspend the semester which he says believes made the teachers happy.
