VOTER REGISTRATION: A.M.A Partners CODA To Distribute PPE To EC Officials, Residents In Odododiodioo

The Mayor of Accra Metropolitan Assembly (A.M.A), Mohammed Adjei Sowah has partnered the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Coastal Development Authority (CODA), Lawyer Jerry Ahmed Shaib to distribute Personal Protection Equipments (PPEs) to some electoral officials, applicants and residents after paying a working visit to nine (9) voter registration centres in the Odododiodioo Constituency in the Greater Accra Region.

According to the Mayor and CEO of CODA, the gesture forms part of measures to curb the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) among the populace in the community. The centres they visited include; Accra Royal Boys Registration Centre, City Engineers Number Three Centre, Accra Sempe Primary Number Three Centre, Amuginaa Centre, Mojawe House Number D 365/2 Centre, Divine Healers Centre, Osofo Owuo Memorial Centre, Wisdom Preparatory School and Old SIC Number One Centre. Addressing journalists, the Mayor said a lot more people were observing the safety protocols as compared to the beginning of the exercise, and stressed the need to intensify education and distribution of nose masks especially to the poor and vulnerable.  "The observation of the safety protocols are being adhered to as compared to the unset of the registration exercise... I have seen some people without nose masks and I think the education and distribution, especially to the poor and vulnerable, must be intensified. Various channels of communication must be employed to reach out to more people, local leaders within the communities must continue to engage community members," he said.  He disclosed that all the registration centres the team visited they witnessed fewer queues because potential registrants have realised that there was no need to rush and commended the Police for ensuring that there was orderliness at the centres and pledged to intensify education on the disease especially to the vulnerable and poor to ensure the safety of all. He urged the applicants to wear their nose masks at all times, adding “the virus is real and must be approached with the seriousness, it deserved for their safety”. Mr Shaib on the other hand noted that the purpose of the visit was to educate the public against the spread of the virus in the ongoing voters' registration exercise and admonished all and sandy to always adhere to the health protocols for their safety. It will be recalled that the AMA in April this year initiated a campaign dubbed, "Wear your nose mask", and distributed 10,000 nose masks to encourage residents and traders in the various communities in the metropolis to wear nose masks. During the launch Mayor, Sowah called on individuals, philanthropist, corporate bodies among others to support the city authority in the distribution of nose masks to every citizen in order to curb the spread of the virus in the metropolis.  Subsequently, the Coalition of Event Managers and Suppliers (CEMS) a group of young Event and Media Production professionals in collaboration with   Multimedia Group and the Creative Art Council also partnered the AMA, to launch #Mask4All initiative to mobilize and distribute face masks to the vulnerable in our society who may not be able to afford them.  Notable institutions and organizations which have supported the call were the Coastal Development Authority, Trashy Bags, a private company that uses empty water sachets to produce bags, individuals from Kantamanto.
