General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey, has sent a strong warning to members of the party, cautioning against the creeping culture of opportunism and self-interest within its ranks.
Addressing a gathering during the NDC’s 33rd anniversary celebration in Accra, Kwetey decried the rise of what he termed “convenient members” — individuals who align with the party not out of loyalty or ideological conviction, but for personal gain.
“This party was not built for the selfish and the opportunists,” he declared.
“Our success should not become a magnet for those who see the NDC as a vehicle for personal advancement rather than a platform for national transformation.”
He warned that such tendencies could erode the moral fabric and founding ideals of the NDC, calling on all members to put the party’s interests and values ahead of their own ambitions.
Reaffirming the importance of discipline, commitment, and selfless service, Kwetey said the NDC must remain a party grounded in principles — not personalities.
He described June 4th, the party’s symbolic foundation day, as a call to action, urging all members to reflect on the sacrifices made and the legacy inherited.
“Let our legacy be one of transformation — not just for our party, but for the people of Ghana,” he added, calling for a return to humility, compassion, and people-centered leadership.
Kwetey’s comments have stirred reactions within the party, with some seeing it as a timely wake-up call ahead of the 2024 general elections.
