The government has established a 12-member committee, chaired by Member of Parliament (MP) for Yapei-Kusawgu Constituency and former Deputy Energy Minister, John Jinapor, to address an impending power crisis, commonly referred to as "dumsor."
The committee's formation follows an emergency meeting convened by the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, on Wednesday, January 8, 2025.
The meeting, held in Accra, brought together key stakeholders in Ghana's energy sector, including representatives from GRIDCo, WAPCo, VRA, GNPC, BOST, and other power generation entities.
The directive to address the situation was issued by President John Dramani Mahama on his first full day in office, signaling the urgency of stabilizing the country's power supply.
The discussions at the meeting focused on devising both immediate and long-term strategies to avert nationwide power outages and ensure a reliable energy supply.
President Mahama has prioritized energy stability as a key pillar for national development, and this committee will work tirelessly to address the challenges and safeguard the nation’s electricity supply.
The newly formed committee is expected to provide regular updates on their progress and recommend solutions to ensure sustainable power generation and distribution.
