As excitement sweeps across the country ahead of Ghana's opening FIFA World Cup 2026 match against Panama on Wednesday, COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, has called on Ghanaians to celebrate responsibly and remain security conscious.

In a message posted on her official Facebook page, COP Donkor rallied support for the Black Stars while reminding football fans of the importance of personal and public safety as they gather to watch the crucial Group L encounter.

"One Nation. One Flag. One Dream," she stated, urging citizens to unite behind the national team with pride, hope and patriotism as they represent Ghana on the global stage.

The CID Director-General noted that thousands of supporters are expected to converge at viewing centres, community parks, homes and other public spaces across the country to cheer on the Black Stars.

While encouraging fans to celebrate with enthusiasm, she stressed the need for vigilance and responsible conduct.

"As we gather in open spaces, homes and communities to watch and celebrate, let us remain watchful, responsible and security conscious," she advised.

COP Donkor further encouraged Ghanaians to look out for one another, stay alert to their surroundings and cooperate with security personnel to ensure a peaceful and incident-free atmosphere before, during and after the match.

Her message comes as anticipation reaches fever pitch nationwide, with the Black Stars seeking a positive start to their World Cup campaign against Panama.

Supporters across Ghana are expected to rally behind the team in a show of national unity and pride.

"Celebrate with joy. Stay alert. Protect one another," she added.
