The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has secured significant international support for Ghana’s responsible gold sourcing, traceability, artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) formalisation, and value-addition agenda at the Sustainability & Responsible Sourcing Summit 2026 held in London.
The summit, jointly organised by the London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) and the World Gold Council, brought together key stakeholders from across the global gold industry to discuss sustainable practices and responsible sourcing standards.
In recognition of Ghana’s growing influence in the global gold market, GoldBod was specially invited to participate in a high-level roundtable meeting of the International Bullion Centres (IBC) Association.
Representing GoldBod, Deputy Chief Executive Officer Richard Nunekpeku outlined Ghana’s regulatory reforms aimed at strengthening responsible sourcing, improving traceability systems, promoting local refining, and formalising the ASM sector.
A major outcome of the engagement was the LBMA’s acknowledgement of Ghana’s increasingly strategic role in the international precious metals market.
The association expressed its readiness to explore policy frameworks that could enhance Ghana’s global standing as a key participant in the gold trade.
The LBMA also endorsed GoldBod’s efforts to improve traceability and formalise artisanal and small-scale mining activities, describing the initiatives as essential for strengthening responsible sourcing practices and safeguarding the integrity of Ghana’s gold supply chain.
As part of the collaboration, the LBMA pledged to work closely with GoldBod to develop internationally aligned traceability mechanisms, responsible sourcing standards, and compliance frameworks tailored to the ASM sector.
The association further signalled its commitment to supporting the development of practical tools and industry best practices to boost transparency, enhance audit processes, and facilitate the integration of Ghana’s ASM sector into global responsible gold supply chains.
Commenting on the outcome of the summit, Mr. Nunekpeku said the positive reception from international stakeholders reflects growing confidence in Ghana’s ongoing reforms and reinforces the country’s ambition to position itself as a leading responsible gold-producing nation.
The development marks another milestone in Ghana’s efforts to strengthen governance within the gold sector while enhancing the country’s competitiveness and reputation in the global bullion market.
