Ghana Police Service debunks rumors of IGP Akufo-Dampare's removal

The Ghana Police Service has firmly dismissed circulating reports that Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akufo-Dampare has been asked to proceed on leave.

Speculation had arisen suggesting that the IGP was instructed to step down and transfer his responsibilities to his deputy, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, in connection with the 2023 leaked tape scandal.

In an official statement, the Police Service urged the public to disregard these unfounded reports, affirming that Dr. Akufo-Dampare continues to lead the Service as appointed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The statement, signed by ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Director of Public Affairs, confirmed that the IGP remains actively in office, fulfilling his duties without interruption.

“The IGP, Dr. George Akufo-Dampare, is still in office and carrying out his responsibilities as mandated,” ACP Ansah-Akrofi stated.

“The public is assured that there is no truth to the reports of the IGP’s removal, and we urge everyone to disregard these rumours.”

The Ghana Police Service emphasized its commitment to maintaining transparency and upholding public trust, clarifying that any claims of the IGP’s departure are baseless.

This announcement aims to dispel the misinformation and reassure the public of the continuity of leadership within the Police Service.
