The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) with assistance of the Police has arrested some peddlers of unregistered medicines known as 'Nkoyo' and 'Nnompe Nnompe Tablets'.
According to the FDA, the products which are not registered by the FDA are sold as herbal preparations and claim to treat pain and inflammatory diseases.
In a statement signed its Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Delese Darko, it said "Laboratory analysis has shown that each container has a steroid tablet and an inflammatory tablet. These unregistered drugs contain active ingredients classified as prescription only medicines in unknown qualities. These products may also contain other unknown substance"
The FDA mentioned that the continuous use of these products without proper prescription and guidance can lead to serious adverse health effects.
