- ASHANTI REGION: Ahsa Life NGO Donates 560 Story Books, 400 Exercise Books To Needy Children
As part of measures of reviving the reading and learning habit in school kids living in deprived areas, Ahsa Life NGO has donated over 500 story books and 400 exercise books to some needy children at Subrisu in the Ashanti Region. According to the NGO, the gesture forms part of its social responsible of touching lives of the vulnerable and needy in the society. In an exclusive interview with Thinknewsonline.com, Founder of Ahsa Life NGO, Nana Serwaa said “Despite the wide spread coronavirus, I had to traveled this far to touch lives of the needy in society. Donating story and exercise books to the kids will help revive the habit of reading and learning in the society” She added that the gesture has come as a result of the closure of schools in the country due Covid-19 adding that she believes the children will stay active and learn new things. She also noted that since education is key, the Ahsa Life NGO will ensure every child in the rural area have access to quality education. She said “We did that on 14th of May 2020. We also shared face masks about 410 and shared 100 sanitizers both to the children and the women at the village" She further revealed that the story books distributed were meant for kids from KG1 to JHS3. The NGO used the occasion to teach the children and women in Subrisu how to wash their hands with soap under running water. The Founder of Ahsa Life NGO advised the citizens to stay home to avoid contracting the deadly novel virus. Receiving the items, a teacher at Subrisu Primary School, Madam Rita Gyamfi thanked Ahsa Life NGO for their kind gesture and assured that the children will be motivated by the kind gesture. - “Disinfect Mosques, Churches, Others Before Lifting Ban On Social Gathering” – Chief Imam To Prez
The National Chief Imam, His Eminence Sheikh Dr Usman Nuhu Sharubutu has advised President Akufo-Addo to treat as urgent the disinfection of all Mosques, Churches and other places of worship across the country before allowing people to access them. According to His Eminence, the disinfection exercise when done will help reduce the spread of the deadly coronavirus among the populace in the country. Speaking at this year’s virtual Eid celebration, the National Chief Imam said “I am appealing to you to consider disinfecting the mosques, churches and other places of worship before people are allowed in. This, when done, will help reduce or curb the spread of the coronavirus” The National Chief Imam further explained that although this year’s celebration has taken a different twist due to the coronavirus, it has also taught Muslims how to focus on the substance of worship of their Maker The 101-year old leader also pleaded with the Muslim community to continue adhering to the directives given by the President as the country continues to fight the deadly virus. Delivering a speech on behalf of the National Chief Imam, the National Chief Imam, His Eminence Sheikh Dr Usman Nuhu Sharubutu, spokesperson, Sheik Aremeyaw Shaibu mentioned that the covid-19 has prevented Muslims from gathering at open places to pray and fill the void of together as a family. He said “The pandemic has made it impossible for us to connect as Muslims in the country” Speaking on the appointment of Justice Issifu Omoro Tanko Amadu as Supreme Court Judge, Sheik Aremeyaw Shaibu mentioned that the Muslim community is grateful to the President for elevating a learned Muslim from a Zongo background to higher office. He also thanked President Akufo-Addo, Vice President Bawumia and Second Lady, Samira Bawumia for taking time of their busy schedules to celebrate this year’s festivity with him. The Chief Imam also used the celebration to call on the various political parties to do away with the political banters as the country prepares for the upcoming December 7 general elections. He tasked the Electoral Commission to be circumspect in its dealings adding that a wrong decision can destroy the country. The National Chief Imam prayed for the country, President Akufo-Addo, Dr. Bawumia; as well as Ghanaians. President Akufo-Addo on his part, lauded the Muslim community for adhering to the restrictions adding that he is hopeful, the ban will be lifted soon. “Measures are in place to see when the ban will be lifted. - COVID-19: "241 Ghanaian Migrants Tested Negative Before Arrival" - Osei Bonsu Dickson
Director for Media and Communication for Operation COVID Safety, Osei Bonsu Dickson has confirmed that all 241 Ghanaian Migrants who were deported from Kuwait tested negative for coronavirus before arriving into the country. According to Mr. Dickson, the confirmation comes after the migrants were run through serological test in Kuwait. Addressing the media at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA), Mr. Dickson said “They needed to be taken through serological test, and that took place in Kuwait which all of them tested negative" He added, the test was part of measures of ensuring that the Ghanaians returning home were safe, had good healthy conditions and to save the country from recording more cases. Mr. Dickson who doubles as the Chief Legal Advisor at the National Security Council Secretariat said "The danger of bringing them in is a much reduced one because of the prior information we had about the tests that were taken" He explained that the 241 Migrants are the first batch of Ghanaians living abroad who have been brought back into the country despite the wide spread of the coronavirus pandemic. "They arrived via a special chattered flight at the cost of the Kuwaiti government" he confirmed. Thinknewsonline.com can confirm that personnel of the Ghana Health Service were present at the Airport to run various test on the deportees. It is emerging that the deportees will not only be screened but tested before being escorted to their designated quarantine centers for another 14 days. - Obinim Freed, Settles GHc100,000 Bail
The Ghana Police Service (GPS) has freed Founder of International God’s Way Church (IGWC), Bishop Daniel Obinim after he managed to settle a GHc100,000 bail slapped on him. The Controversial Man of God was this week picked by the police over an alleged publication of false news. Bishop Obinim was also allegedly accused of forgery of documents contrary to sections 208 and 159 of the ze Criminal and other offences Act, (1960) (ACT 29) respectively. Thinknewsonline.com is learning that the man of God was asked by the court to reappear in court on June 1 while investigations continues. It also emerged that Bishop Obinim was also granted a bail of GHC100,000 by an Accra Magistrate Court with three sureties and one person to be justified. Thinknewsonline.com can confirm that Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong was the brain behind the arrest of Bishop Obinim. The MP stressed that he will not rest until all fake pastors in the country are arrested and dealt with. - COVID-19: 2020 Eid-ul-Fitr Celebration Goes Virtual, Scheduled For Sunday

According to him, the giveaway forms part of his contribution to the country's fight against the virus. The footballer said "I'm a graphic designer despite being a footballer, I opted to design customized face masks of Hearts of Oak and share it to football fans on all my social media account" The 29-year-old also added he will be using his social media platforms for the exercise adding it is important for the citizenry to be healthy in this tough period. - EASTERN REGION: Girlfriend Butchers Lover To Death (+ Video)
Police in the Akye Mansa District in the Eastern Region has arrested a 35-yr-old woman, Abena Kumi who has been accused of allegedly butchering her lover, Koo Boateng, 46 to death. According to sources, the deceased met his untimely death after his girlfriend and brother, Kofi Kyei stabbed him multiple times for unknown reasons. Narrating the incident, Thinknewsonline.com’s, source, Kojo Mensah (Not his real name) said “Three days ago, Kooo Boateng gave his lover money to prepare dinner after he returned from the farm. He (Koo Boateng) decided to pay his friend a visit whiles awaiting the food” Kojo Mensah added that the brother of accused gave the deceased a tip-off that his(Koo Boateng) lover was having an affair with an unknown man. - NPP National Women Organiser, 1 Other Renders Apology To Kennedy Agyapong
National Women Organizer of the ruling New Party Party (NPP), Kate Gyamfua has stepped in to render an unqualified apology on behalf of a volunteer group leader to the Member of Parliament for Assin Central Constituency, Kennedy Agyapong over some unacceptable words used against him on social media last week. According to Madam Gyamfua, although social media is a powerful platform that connects people, it is also an avenue where people spew unacceptable words to others. Speaking on an Accra-based radio station, Madam Kate said "I am here today to render an apology to Honourable Ken Agyapong on behalf of one of the leaders of the volunteer groups, Miss Dorcas over her unacceptable comments passed on the MP on her social media platform last week" She also added the apology forms part of measures of maintaining peace among leaders and members of the various volunteer groups in the party. The National Women Organizer also used the opportunity caution young women against the wrong usage of their various social media platforms. "As a mother of the party, I see it important for the young ones to respect their elders. You must always remember that respect is reciprocal" she stressed. On the other hand, the MP for Assin Central Constituency accepted the apology and admonished the youth to be mindful of their utterances and write ups on social media since it can damage the hard won reputation of others. Madam Kate thanked Mr. Agyapong for his acceptance and also took the opportunity to advise the youth of the party to refrain from using offensive/abusive language in their write-ups. "We are in an election year. Be mindful of your write-ups, posts and utterances on social media. Do not exhibit such behaviours since it will not augur well for the party" she appealed. - Covid-19: "Gov't Of Ghana Approves Deportation Of 245 Ghanaian Migrants From Kuwait" -Oppong Nkrumah
Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah says despite the closure of the country's borders to human travel as part of international travel restrictions under Ghana’s covid-19 response program, the Government of Ghana has approved the deportation of 245 Ghanaian Migrants from Kuwait into the country. According to Mr. Nkrumah, the 245 Ghanaians who are currently in the Kuwait illegally are expected to be in the country on Saturday May 23. Addressing Journalists in Accra, the Information Minister said "The Government of Kuwait has further requested permission from the Government of Ghana to deport the said persons to Ghana on Saturday May 23, 2020. The Government of Ghana has subsequently granted, a special permit for the admission of the said deportees to Ghana" He added that the deportation is to be executed via a special charter arrangement at the cost of the Kuwaiti Government. Mr Oppong Nkrumah noted that although the deportation comes at a time when Ghana’s borders remain closed to human travel as part of international travel restrictions under Ghana’s covid-19 response program adding that measures have been put in place to limit the importation of cases into the country. He further explained that in line with exemptions that were granted for special evacuation flights of foreign nationals during the border closure period, the Government of Ghana has come up with some measures to safely admit the deportees while ensuring the risk to the covid-19 response program is mitigated. "The deportees will be mandatorily quarantined and tested for covid-19 immediately upon arrival into the Ghana. Deportees who test positive will be supported with treatment" he emphasised. The Minister of Information who also doubles as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ofoase-Ayirebi Constituency stressed that the deportees who test positive will remain in quarantine for a second test at the end of the 14day quarantine period. The MP however noted that in addition to the aforementioned covid-19 measures, the 245 Ghanaians will generally be received and handled in line with immigration regulations for all deportees. He said "They will be in the custody of the state for preliminary investigations on the circumstances of their illegal stay in Kuwait. Upon completion of the investigations, a case by case determination will be made on the status and further handling of each deportee in accordance with law" Mr. Oppong Nkrumah revealed that the cost of quarantine and treatment is to be borne by the Government of Ghana. He also explained that the National Security Secretariat will be working in collaboration with the Military, Immigration and Police to ensure the mandatory quarantine is adequately enforced. The Information Minister hinted that the Ghana health service shall be responsible for testing and treatment if need be. - CID Begins Investigations On NPP's Nana Obiri Boahen
Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service says it is investigating the deputy general secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen over an alleged comments uttered on an Accra-based radio station. According to the CID, since the comments uttered by the deputy general secretary were unacceptable, it was prudent to invite him for further questioning. Addressing Journalists, Public Relations Officer (P.R.O) of the Criminal Investigations Department, DSP Juliana Obeng said "We have started an investigation into comments made by the Deputy General Secretary of the NPP. The fact that we have not arrested him does not mean that he cannot or will not be arrested. So if authorities during investigations find it prudent to arrest him, he will be arrested but for now, he has not been arrested.” She added that earlier this week, Major Boakye-Djan was arrested and granted over similar comments by Mr. Boahen adding that due diligence will be done on the matter. “We have started an investigation into comments made by the Deputy General Secretary of the NPP…The fact that we have not arrested him does not mean that he cannot or will not be arrested. Boakye-Djan Granted Bail In other developments, a leading member of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Major (Rtd) Kwadwo Boakye-Djan has been granted bail after he was arrested for making comments deemed to have breached the peace of the country. The Ghana Police says he was charged with the offence of offensive conduct conducive to the breach of peace contrary to section 207 of the Criminal and Other Offences Act. As the race for the position of running mate in the largest opposition party, National Democratic Congress (NDC) gets hotter, Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu has revealed although he is not fit for the competition, he will not stop keeping his eyes on the ball. According to Mr. Iddrisu, he is still growing systematically in the party. Speaking on an Accra based television station on Wednesday, the Minority Leader said “I will walk in grace and to where Allah will prepare for me in the right time. I do not fit into the geopolitical chemistry surrounding it. I am growing systematically but will keep my eyes on the ball” He added the NDC is not in a haste to disclose its running mate adding the pandemic has brought many activities to a stand-still. He further stressed although candidate Mahama knows who his running mate is, there is no need outdooring him whiles the country is fighting a deadly pandemic. He hinted he is previewed to some discussions and information adding it will be unfair on his part to speak on it. “We are optimistic in our success in election 2020. He made only one term and he is going to depend on the people. We will vindicate him. We need to be united as a party and that we will do so as a team” he noted. He reiterated that despite losing by 50 votes, he is happy the party through its efforts has re-united with 47. The MP for Tamale South assured party faithful that the grounds are furtile for NDC to win the upcoming December election. FIGHTING COVID-19 Speaking on measures to combat the novel coronavirus in the country, the Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu called on the public to join forces and fight the pandemic like war. He said the virus is the country’s common enemy adding it is the duty of all to join in the eradictation. Mr. Iddrisu said “Ghanaians must join Government in a collective effort in the fight against the virus. The public to join force and fight the virus like war” The Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale South also revealed that he is disappointed Government is distributing some stimulus packages to its people. “Government must see to it that the stimulus packages it is providing serves all Ghanaians and not members of the NPP party only” he noted. ELECTORAL COMMISSION He also called on the Election Commission chair, Madam Jean Mensah to be fair in her dealing stressing that the NDC cannot stop the them (EC) from embarking on its duties. “The Electoral Commission cannot complete this before the ending of June. The EC rushed in this move and let us hope it does not cause constitutional chaos and crisis in the country” he disclosed. He also mentioned that the EC chair should be summoned to answer how she acquired Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) adding she will be made to disclose where, how and who funded its purchase.
