- REOPENING OF AIRPORT: "We Have Not Recorded Any Positive Case" - Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye Confirms
The Director-General at the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr Patrick Kuma-Aboagye has confirmed that the country has not recorded any positive case of the novel corona virus since the reopening of the Kotoka International Airport (KIA). According to him, all passengers who have successfully touched down in the country have tested negative after series of tests. He explained that the country saw 217 people arriving from three different countries. The Chief Executive Officer of Coastal Development Authority (CODA), Lawyer Jerry Ahmed Shaib has cut sod for the construction of a 12-Unit Classroom Block at the Kwame Nkrumah Cluster of Schools in the Ayawaso Central Constituency. The project is being funded through the one million dollar one constituency program through the Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Programme (IPEP) under the Ministry of Special Development Initiatives (MSDI). Addressing the chiefs and people of the Ayawaso Constituency, the CEO of CODA, Lawyer Jerry Ahmed Shaib said "President in 2016 promised Ghanaians that when he is voted into office he will allocate one million dollar per constituency to help in socio-economic development in every constituency in the country. The Coastal Development Authority (CODA) held its maiden staff durbar at the Ministry of Food and Agriculture Resource Centre in Accra. The participants were staff drawn from the Head Office and the six (6) regions of Ghana under the Coastal Development Zone, namely Western, Western North, Central, Greater Accra, Volta and the Oti Regions. The theme for the durbar was, “Executing Our Mandate in the Midst of COVID-19 Pandemic: The Role of CODA Staff”. - "Covid Tests At KIA Are Reliable" - FDA Dismisses Dr. Bonney's Claims
The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has dismissed claims made by Dr. Kofi Bonney of the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research saying test authorized for detection of the SARS-CoV-2 virus at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) is not a rapid diagnostic test kit (RDT) but rather a device which detects the virus in nasophayngeal (nasal) swabs. According to the FDA, the device detects the ANTIGEN (SARS-CoV-2 Virus) by Fluorescence technology. The FDA in granting market authorisation to this device, compared the specificity and sensitivity to the Gold Standard, PCR and it met the requirements of not less than 99.0% concordance" The response comes after the FDA, a statutory body mandated by Sec 118 4(b) of the Public Health Act 851, 2012 noted with concern, a media interview granted on an Accra-based television station on August 31st, 2020 by Dr. Kofi Bonney of the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research.
