Two aides of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings have been picked up by officers of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) from their homes. It is unclear why the two, Barbara and Thelma, were picked up by the BNI operatives on Thursday, November 19. A daughter of one of the arrested persons told 3FM in an interview that security operatives numbering about twenty showed up in their home in the early hours of Thursday and asked them to surrender their phones. She said also that a young boy, who was preparing for school, was alarmed by the incident and sent a text message to his, who came around and was also asked to surrender his mobile phone. Their mobile phones were seized and movement was restricted for several hours. As about 9:00am, the officials went away with the phones and amount of money they cannot disclose. “A number of security operatives fully armed numbering about twenty barged into our home this morning around 6:00am for information and ransacked the whole house. “Our mobile phones were seized and movement restricted till about 9:00am. President Akufo-Addo has directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP), James Oppong Boanuh to provide the beleaguered Former Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu with 24-hour police protection. The directive comes in the wake of allegations by Mr. Amidu to the effect that threats had been made on his life. The Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga, has denied claims by Assin Central legislator, Kennedy Agyapong, suggesting that he holds medical records of Ghana’s immediate past Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu. Mr. Agyapong, who took on Mr. Amidu on his NET 2 TV station over his banter with government after his resignation, suggested that Mr. Amidu may have some mental health issues and had visited Germany for treatment. He mentioned Mr. Ayariga as his source of the information. In yet another sad video, a young man has been electrocuted to death after climbing an electric pole to fix his party’s (NPP) flag. The yet to be identified party faithful in the video is seen hanging on the pole dead. The notorious killer died in hospital after reportedly refusing treatment for coronavirus while serving a whole life jail term at HMP Frankland in County Durham. His killing spree spanned five years before he was eventually caught and confessed to the murders. But who was Peter Sutcliffe and how did the killer eventually get caught? He left education at the age of 15 before taking on a series of jobs including grave digging. Sutcliffe's first murder victim, 28-year-old sex worker Wilma McCann, was battered to death in August 1975 - just over a year after he married his wife Sonia. She was struck with a hammer and stabbed in the neck, chest, and stomach after Sutcliffe picked her up in Leeds. He murdered 42-year-old Emily Jackson from Leeds just a few months later in similar circumstances. It wasn't until he killed his fifth victim - 16-year-old Jayne MacDonald in April 1977 - that the public became aware a serial killer was on the loose. The identity of the Yorkshire Ripper went unknown for years, partly due to police being hoaxed into thinking the killer was a man from Sunderland. Officers, who were hunting a man with a Sunderland accent whose handwriting matched those of fake letters they had been sent, failed to connect vital pieces of evidence. The Yorkshire Ripper was eventually caught in January 1981 when police pulled him over in a red light area of Sheffield. Once at Dewsbury Police Station officers decided to question him in relation to the Yorkshire Ripper killings after noticing his physical likeness. Although the majority of his victims were sex workers, not all of them were. Sutcliffe pleaded not guilty to 13 charges of murder claiming manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility. His case was put before a jury and the trial lasted two weeks. He was found guilty of murder on all counts and was sentenced to 20 concurrent sentences of life imprisonment after also pleading guilty to seven counts of attempted murder. Police believe he may have killed many more than the 13 women he was convicted of murder.
