- Stacy Amewoyi’s New Novel “Missing Fathers” Makes History The Focal Point
Stacy Amewoyi, a renowned African author who has become somehow a hope for the youth based on a broad view on interesting situations surrounding love, history and several touching yet almost forgotten stories that have either sharpen Africa or worsen her problems, has done it again with yet another masterpiece that’s being cemented in the hearts of readers. For a reader to feel connected to a novel, the writer must work on related stories or true-life events that can never be overlooked, yet in Africa, most of these stories that have contributed to the rise of some nations and fall of others have been given a blind eye for long. The biggest, worrying and prominent question on the lips of most ardent followers of literature has been; how will the new generation learn from the mistakes of their forefathers, fathers and more if no one is willing to tell them the truth? History of events of the past shouldn’t be left buried in the past, the new generation deserves the right to see, and read and sometimes made to witness them again, form the basis for their development and help prevent reoccurrence of the evil ones and occurrence of the beneficial ones. Stacy Amewoyi took readers on a journey from the past into the present, backing her words on facts and to a larger extent predicts what the future holds for the new generation if certain corrections aren’t done immediately. History tells us about the incident that brought severe hunger to Ghana in the ’80s accompanied by a coup that was led by the late former President of Ghana, Jerry John Rawlings, a leader that has two hearts in every home in the country and elsewhere in the world. In almost every home, you will find a fraction that loves him, is willing to abide by everything he says, sees him as the survivor of the country. Meanwhile, on the other hand, lies a fraction who doesn’t want to even hear his name being mentioned at any point in time because of the feeling of his contribution to pains that have either befallen an entire household or part of it. Take it or leave it, Rawlings contribution to Ghana’s history can’t be overlooked. As Ghana was suffering to find permanent solutions to 80’s hunger (Famine), Nigeria was on the rise to becoming the nation that other nations will bow to due to her rich oil reserve. The oil found in Nigeria help her economy to blossom beyond imagination and placed her in a position that has attracted investors, and other Africans, who travelled to Nigeria seeking a better life, work for money and return home to their families better than they left. Therefore, Nigeria became the go-to country in Africa for anyone who wants a job and financial stability, a lot of Ghanaians made their way into the country, most of them left behind wives and kids; Nigeria was quickly named the Giant of Africa because of this. “Writing Missing Fathers, the research, time and resource that went into the book opened my eye and mind to a different Africa,” Stacy Amewoyi said, whiles driving through Accra. “A continent that must take a second look at her actions from the past into the present, there’s a lot this generation can learn but we have allowed the stories to be told differently. If you take Ghana for an instant, the coup and famine that led to many fathers flee the country to work for money to take care of their families back home also contributed to a lot of kids ending up on the streets and becoming homeless. Now, let me explain, some of the fathers that left never came back again because they must have found a new life and didn’t want to return or life wasn’t rosy overseas as they imagined, these kids that were left behind became somehow burden to the family, no money to support their education, feeding and more, so the only option is to hit the streets,” she added. Additionally, Nigerians became tired of Ghanaians and other Africans who were taken their jobs from them, hence the government at that time took the steps to drive almost every Ghanaian back home, and that’s where the popular “Ghana Must Go” came about. “Now, the question was some of these Ghanaians came back home in a hurry, no time to back, pick some of their savings and come along with to feed their families, so most of them came back home empty-handed. How do you start living from that point when all that you have worked for is left in some in another country? This paved the way for another incident of fathers feeling ashamed to go home to their kids.” “Missing Fathers have been on my hearts for many years, and glad I finally worked on it, and then the response from the readers makes me weep sometimes when alone, people have gone through a lot of problems due to actions of our leaders and they just want someone to talk to who can listen for listening sake. From the ending part of the second novel to the third novel, I captured real-life stories of people around the world who didn’t get the affections of their fathers growing up due to one circumstance or the other, the stories are heartbreaking.” It’s not only about the sad parts of the kids who grew up without their fathers and couldn’t achieve their full potential. In the third novel, Stacy Amewoyi shared success stories of kids who did so well, some becoming world leaders even though their parents weren’t there. “I shared what’s causing the problems at homes, and kids growing up without parents and the effects it has on them, but it’s also good to talk about the kids who fought their ways through it all become prominent people in society, they can serve as role models to others who are going through similar problems. I just hope MISSING FATHERS continues to change lives and sharpen this and the next generation.” Profile Stacy Amewoyi rose to become an established author and philanthropist, a feat she took constant determination and hard work to achieve; she grew up as an orphan. She dedicated her entire life to helping the less privileged in society via her Stacy M. Foundation for the past twenty-something years, which commitment towards improving the lives of these children across Ghana hasn’t faded. She has disclosed her intention to build state of the art shelters in Ghana to house a lot of street children, providing basic education, vocational training, and more. Even though she has admitted the difficulty associated with all these philanthropic decisions without any external support, it’s a burning desire that can’t be stopped. Stacy Amewoyi developed the knack for writing and sharing real-life stories with the world through her first set of best-sellers, which include; The Kings Choice - My True Life Story: You Only See My Beauty You Don’t Know My Story: www.amazon.com The Price Of Love: www.amazon.com Also check out her critically acclaimed three-part novel, “The Missing Fathers.” The Missing Fathers Volume I: When All Hopes Fade Away: www.amazon.com The Missing Fathers: "Dear Father, Read This & Come Back" Volume II: www.amazon.com The Missing Fathers: "A Time Capsule Of The Globe" Volume III: www.amazon.com Or visit StacyMFoundation Below are some pictures: Story by: Joshua Kwabena Smith
- "I Stand For ‘LetsFixTheCountry,” Not FixTheCountry Nor FixYourself- Van Vicker
While the conversation surrounding #FixTheCountry movement still lingers on, Ghanaian actor Van Vicker has voiced his opinion on the matter. The award-winning actor, in a conversation with Jessica Opare Saforo on Citi FM, stated that although there’s a division on who’s job it is to fix the country, he believes the task lies in the hands of all of us; both government and the citizens. ” Whatever we do, whatever they do, it has a ripple effect both ways…if they decide to be corrupt, say they are, it will have a toll on us. If we decide not to adhere to the regulations they bring, it will come back right at us so indeed I do not think it is the matter of you guys fix the country as in the government. I think it’s a collective effort because if they say let’s clean our surroundings and I decide not to do it, it has a lot of repercussions,” Van Vicker told host Jessica. In the light go this, Van Vicker, who recently got his Bachelor’s Degree, 21 years after completing Senior High School, is calling on both government and citizens to come together and work toward the betterment of our nation. “So it’s a collective effort, it’s not just government fix it, it is we all fix it so I am not taking a stand that we should fix ourselves, neither is it government should fix the country, it is collectively, let’s fix the country. Van Vicker that is my stand and I didn’t want to go one way or the other because if you throw weight to one side, those who dey the other side go scatter you” he added. Credit: Ameyaw Debrah
- Ghana Star, Asamoah Gyan Sets Sights On Black Stars Return
Legendary Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan has set sights on playing for the Black Stars again as he squashed reports that he is thinking about retirement. Gyan has not played for Black Stars since the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations and his recent form makes it virtually impossible for him to return to the team before next year’s AFCON to be staged in Cameroon from 9 January to 6 February 2022. Injuries forced the 34-year-old to spend the majority of the recently concluded Ghana Premier League season on the sidelines. He played only six matches and scored no goal as Legon Cities escaped relegation on the last day. "I have not retired from football," the country's all-time top goalscorer told Kumasi based Kessben FM. "There were some injuries last season but I am not done playing football. I can wake up one day and announce my retirement from football but at the moment, I am active. "People will criticize me but I am only hoping to get back to my normal form and weight but if I am not able to regain my form, then I will call it off but at the moment, I am working on myself to lose my weight. "I returned to Legon Cities and you could clearly see that things did not go as planned because I have putting on weight but I am giving myself another season and I trust I will be back to my form and if I am on my form, I don't think I will be overlooked [for Black Stars selection] but for retirement, not now." Gyan who has scored 51 goals for Ghana including six at the World Cup which is an African record is in Yaounde for the 2021 AFCON draw. Credit: Ghanasoccernet.com
- Captain Smart Takes Kweku Oteng To The Cleaners Over ‘Political Suspension’
Captain Smart, Onua TV presenter has opened up on his side of the truth surrounding what he calls his political suspension and eventual exit from Angel Broadcasting Network, his former employers. Smart, on the Monday, August 16, 2021 edition of Onua Morning Show, called out President and Founder of the Angel Broadcasting Network, ABN, Dr. Kweku Oteng, for exhibiting inferiority complex with the manner in which he suspended him amid massive political pressure on his back. He narrated how political hawks in his (Smart's) own party, the ruling New Patriotic Party, NPP, had orchestrated the use of tax sanction threats on Kweku Oteng’s businesses to pressure him to suspend Captain Smart, who was host of Angel FM’s Morning Show. “Kweku Oteng called me and said, ‘Captain, NPP leaders have called, I can’t stand the pressure, they are threatening me with a flood of taxes. Commander-In-Chief (a title he says the ABN founder gave him), the job is exactly what you are doing but I beg you.” He continued about how Oteng drew in a link to Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko relative to the quarters from which the pressure was emanating, a link Smart said he did not believe. “They have had a meeting and there is pressure on me with threat of taxes, if care is not taken the company will collapse. So we agreed you will go on suspension, which is a decision I am not in support of,” Oteng said according to Smart’s narration. He added that the suspension was expected to start after he closed work on 6th May but when he started his final show before the suspension kicks in, new pressure was mounted leading to a call from Oteng where he exhibited what Smart calls 'inferiority complex.' “For the first time ever, the owner of a radio institution said, ‘do you think I fear you, I don’t fear you.’ That was a sign of inferiority complex. I laughed and told him I don’t believe his Gabby story because when people went to a Labone meeting, Gabby was out of town.” Smart said it took Imani Africa boss, Franklin Cudjoe to break the news of his political suspension and that when Cudjoe called him, he disclosed having received a letter that said his suspension was in relation to insults he directed at the President, Vice President, Minister of Trade and immediate past police chief. “If anyone convinces me with a video that I insulted these four personalities between June 2020 and June 2021, I will resign. There is no video, there is no voice, there is no audio. It was a political suspension orchestrated by big men of the NPP, that let us silence him,” Smart stressed. Days after his suspension, Smart resigned from ABN and took a similar role at Media General with their subsidiary channel Onua TV. He also started his own YouTube channel, Smart TV, where he continues to critique the government and its governance style. Credit: Ghanaweb
- "Ghana Must Exploit And Monetise Her Gas For Industrialisation" - NAPO
The Minister for Energy, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has stated that the country’s huge gas reserves makes it imperative for her to exploit and monetise them as leverage for her industrial takeoff. Dr. Prempeh, popularly known as ‘NAPO’, made this call when he led a delegation to to pay a courtesy call on the Mayor of Houston, Mr. Sylvester Turner, at his office in downtown Houston. The Minister is in the United States for this year’s Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) which is currently taking place in Houston, Texas. In attendance at the meeting were Ghana’s Ambassador to the USA, H.E Hajia Alima Mahama, Deputy Minister Hon. Egyapa Mercer, the CEO of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), Mr. Yoofi Grant as well as senior officials from the Ministry and some of its agencies. Their discussions focused on the energy sector in the context of energy transition, Ghana’s investment climate, international trade and empowerment of Africa in the global scheme of things. In his remarks, Dr. Prempeh stated that Ghana’s first oil find in commercial quantities was by Kosmos, a Houston based company, which left the country but is back. He further emphasized on Ghana’s huge gas reserves which must be monetized for the benefit of our industrial agenda whilst making the case for companies to invest in Ghana. He noted that energy transition need not mean an abandonment of our natural oil and gas resources, which is why Ghana is as this year’s OTC to encourage investment flows into the country’s energy sector. "I can feel the pressure on African countries to conform to the energy transition agenda, even though Africa has contributed marginally to the phenomenon that is driving this agenda. We have so much gas that we need the cooperation of Houston and its domiciled energy giants”, the Minister remarked. In agreeing with the Minister, Mayor Turner noted that from Senegal all the way to Angola, huge gas reserves in the Gulf of Guinea made it imperative to discuss ways in which the continent can benefit from them within the framework of the energy transition conversation, noting that through clean technology, investments in carbon sequestration etc, it was possible to make good progress towards clean energy and called on African leaders to be more involved in this. "My commitment to Africa is very real, and people like me want to do everything we can to make it happen, which is why I think it is it important to have the continent’s leaders engage with the energy companies”, he stated. In response, Dr. Prempeh revealed that West African energy leaders intend to meet ahead of the next World Congress on Petroleum in December 2021 to ensure synergies and coordination of their views and strategies for the industry. On her part, Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, H. E Hajia Alima Mahama, stated that Africa is going through some reforms and recognizes that she must develop through trade. She disclosed that the AU recently ratified the AfCTFA which is hosted in Ghana, so investing in Ghana is by extension an opening to a whole continental market. On job creation in the petroleum sector she remarked that “The downstream sector of will playsa key role in the stability of the continent as it is a greater job creation tool” The OTC, which started yesterday, will end on Thursday 19th August 2021. Among the Minster’s other engagements during the event are a keynote speech at a West African Oil and Gas Forum, an encounter with the Ghanaian community in Houston and several private engagements with various key players in Houston’s energy space. - "Nana Addo I Beg, Don't Promise Again, Just List The Outstanding Promises For Us" - Godwin Ako Gunn
I heard a story about a religious sect who never vote nor promise. They hold their promise in high esteem. Promises are vows, you don't take them for granted. I stood still when I saw a poster on a wall that read one district one factory and asked, will God take Nana Addo serious? I am told the grounds have been broken for the commencement of a 111 district hospitals with the amount equivalent to some clinics without equipments. Fear the man who promises God and shamelessly plays hide and seek with him. If he has promised a cathedral and has asked God to blame us ; the people he gave him who are not contributing to it !!! I am sorry for you, if you believe there are plans for a 111 hospitals. Just last year, he promised the construction of 88 hospitals in a year and delivered nine... sorry *NONE* I mean !!! It's obvious Nana Addo doesn't respect any promise he makes, not even to his wife. He stood before God on his wedding day to promise Rebecca his love that my wealth shall be your wealth, only to turn to Ghanians to share in that burden by giving her a salary so he can use his salary for other things. He promised Ghanians free water and electricity during the electioneering period only to look into our faces after the elections saying " *E sweet you E sweet me , so who go pay? "* Until we wise up as a people, King promise will come with aluminium chains around his neck to ask us of our gold!!! Mr. Nobody only comes with slogans, but very hollow and nothing to show for!!! Let's be wise as the serpent, and see through his schemes of diverting attention from ongoing thievery and corruption. Hearts of Oak did not include Afutu in their CAF Champions League squad paving way for him to leave the club. - "There Is No Majority, They Don’t Have The Power" – Alban Bagbin Tells NPP
Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, says the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) does not have majority power in Parliament. According to him, aside from the fact Ghanaians voted for an equal number of seats for both NPP and the opposition NDC, during the 2020 elections, most of the NPP MPs are in the Executive arm of government and sometimes fail to attend parliamentary sittings. READ ALSO: https://www.thinknewsonline.com/post/bui-power-ceo-is-wrong-the-energy-minister-has-not-been-misled-by-gridco He explained that because these MPs have been tasked to take care of matters at their respective Ministries, they can sometimes vote on some matters. “The 137-137, it was the people who decided. There was no system or formula put in place; the people just voted. One of the persons who made them the majority, they didn’t want him, so he stood as independent and beat the government candidate.” https://www.thinknewsonline.com/post/amplified-will-focus-on-amplifying-mentoring-youth-dev-t-activities-in-various-quarters-gov-t “He is now the second Deputy Speaker, so actually, there is no majority. But, if not because of my impartiality, anytime they want to vote, I step aside, and one of them will come and sit down, and they are 137-137. So, they don’t have the power they think they have; they don’t have it at all,” Mr Bagbin said. The Speaker of Parliament stated that despite having an affiliation with the opposition NDC, he has no interest in being partial to frustrate government business.
