The Former Central Regional Minister Kwamena Dunkan says former President John Mahama in some jurisdiction would have been cooling off in jail by now. Mr. Dunkan alleged that the corruption scandals Mr Mahama was neck-deep in including his appointees do not give him and anyone of his bad government the moral right to criticize President Nana Akufo-Addo. His comments come at the back of some criticism former President John Mahama made during his recent Thank You tour in the five northern regions. Mr. Mahama said, “the NPP has no intention of fighting corruption, and so the only way they can be made to account to the people of Ghana is for them to leave office so that the new government will come and audit them and show where they have gone wrong. “Otherwise, all the money they have stolen, they will just walk away with it. If you participate in politics or are a participant in public service, one of the first things you must be willing to do is to be accountable to the people.” But Mr. Dunkan and his colleagues in the NPP say the former President should have accounted to the people of Ghana regarding some allegations of corruption he was involved in during his tenure. Mentioning the Airbus bribery scandal (GOG 1) and the allegations of kickbacks received by the former President, in addition to some other corrupt practices during his era, Mr. Dunkan was livid to hear Mr. Mahama rather talking about accountability. Police detectives who are fond of speaking the local language, Twi while giving evidence in court have been advised to desist from that act because it brings disgrace to the police profession. IGP Akuffo Dampare was spotted in traffic without using dispatch to beat the gridlock The IGP has been commended for exhibiting leadership by example It is quite a common sight for police officers and public officials to use dispatch to disperse traffic even when they are not on duty Since his appointment, he has not relented to inject some dopamine into the brains of Ghanaians and breathed new life into the Police Service with his actions. Inspector-General of Police COP George Akuffo Dampare continues to wow members of the public and his subordinates with his unusual mannerisms. In the latest episode of the admirable feats exhibited by the Ghana Police head, he was seen in traffic – stuck in the gridlock with civilians on the Palace-Accra Mall Road. It has become the norm to see police vehicles blaring their sirens to meander through traffic whether they are on duty or not. Some members of the public have cited examples where such officers, after splitting the traffic to facilitate their movement, have ended at food joints with them, or attending to other not so urgent matters. On Thursday, August 26, a Facebook user, took a snapshot of a Toyota V8 with car number GP1, signalling the official vehicle of the Police Chief in traffic, same as everyone else without a dispatch or buzzing sirens. Stoked by the rare occurrence, this is what he posted on his wall: “This afternoon, around 2:30, on the Accra Mall - Palace Mall Road, I saw the IGP in his official vehicle without dispatch (no police motorbike ahead of him). With his driver and another policeman in the front seat, the IGP was stuck in the long traffic just like me, an ordinary citizen. "Though there were policemen directing the flow of traffic at vantage points, he never made an attempt to prompt them of his presence in order to be treated differently. Calmly, his car drove, as I admired his patience and humility. I wish you well, COP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.” The post received over 1000 reactions with a chunk of them once again hailing the exploits of the Inspector General of Police who is fast gaining the unfettered support and admiration of the public. The 16-year-old apprentice, Stephanie Asamoah who went missing on Thursday, August 19, 2021, has been found. Stephanie Asamoah of Nzema Aiyinasi in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region left home at 4:30pm where she deceived her mother of returning to work. However, on Sunday, August 29, 2021, at 5pm, Stephanie Asamoah returned home after going to Tarkwa with her boyfriend. Stephanie Asamoah is currently with Nzema Aiyinasi Police assisting the police with investigations. Meanwhile, Stephenie Asamoah's boyfriend whose name has been given as Donzy has run away from Nzema Aiyinasi after escaping arrest. In an interview with this reporter at Nzema Aiyinasi on Monday, August 30, 2021, Stella Asamoah who is the mother of Stephanie Asamoah gave thanks to the Almighty God for bringing her daughter back after going missing for 10days. She also gave thanks to the media, the security services, family and the general public who helped to search for her daughter. The Chair and Leader of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Nana Akosua Frimpomaa has descended heavily on the government for what she calls a skillful manner of extorting money from poor youth who desire to be conscripted into the various security services in the country. "The broadcasts and publications falsely sought to portray the Plaintiffs as unethical, unprofessional and criminal. The broadcasts and publications as well as associated defamatory commentary have been carefully and meticulously gathered and formally transcribed and translated. Kennedy Agyapong warned the CEO of the Multimedia Group to call his workers at Joy Fm to order before he expose him. According to Kennedy Agyapong, Multimedia Group which is one of the biggest private media companies in Ghana was built with proceeds from the illicit drug trade and he can prove it. He warned Kwasi Twum to be careful because one ‘Jones’ is still alive and he will show the whole of Ghana where he used to send the drug to sell that he used the proceed to build multimedia. “Joy FM the drugs that were used to establish your firm if you joke I will expose you. Jones is not dead, I will show you, people, where you used to send the drugs,” Kennedy Agyapong said in an interview. “I’m not afraid of Joy FM, I’m not afraid of you. If you joke I will disgrace people”, Kennedy Agyapong added. It all started when Kennedy Agyapong asked people to beat up Erastus Asare Donkor, a senior reporter with Multimedia Group in Kumasi mercilessly after he testified at the committee set up to investigate the Ejura shooting. Multimedia filed a complaint with the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ghana police service and copied the Jubilee House, Parliament, and other institutions. It could be recalled that Kennedy Agyapong made similar pronouncements on Ahmed Suale, the partner of Anas Aremyeaw Anas, the investigative journalist which eventually led to his death. The Accra Regional Police Command is investigating one John Arthur, a 45-year-old painter and resident of Race Course near Sowutuom, a suburb of Accra, for allegedly defiling a girl in Kindergarten. On 28th August 2021, at about 3:00 pm, the victim, a KG2 pupil, and her 8-year-old brother, neighbours to the suspect, were playing around their house when they came across the suspect, seated in front of a shop, close to their house. According to the police, John Arthur allegedly offered his mobile phone to the victim’s brother to play a game, while he carried the victim onto his laps. Police say, while the victim’s brother’s attention was on the game, the suspect defiled the victim. Unknown to the suspect, a neighbour was watching his act from afar. He recorded the entire act on video and rushed to rescue the victim. He further informed the victim’s parents. The parents together with other neighbours caused the arrest of the suspect and a complaint was made at the Sowutuom Police station. At the Police station, suspect John Arthur denied defiling the victim. Investigation into the matter is ongoing while efforts are in place for the suspect to be put before the court. This comes on the back of a number of defilement cases recorded in the country in recent times. Police in the Central Region recently arrested 14 persons following the defilement of a 13-year-old girl by a group of men at Gomoa Adzintem. The gang also assaulted the father of the 13-year-old girl before perpetrating the dastardly act. A woman has allegedly been mutilated and hacked to death by her husband at Gbetsile Soldier Line in the Kpone Katamanso Municipality of the Greater Accra Region. The husband, Thomas Kontoh, a man believed to be in his mid-50s, allegedly hanged himself after the incident early on Tuesday, August 31, 2021. The woman in her 40s, identified as Lydia Amponsah, had her ears cut off and suffered multiple cutlass wounds. Speaking to Citi News, the traumatised niece of the deceased, Michaela Okata, who witnessed the incident, narrated that at around 1:30 am Tuesday dawn, Thomas Kontoh allegedly broke into their room with a cutlass and butchered Lydia Amponsah. “I heard someone knock on our door at dawn. It was my uncle who was calling out my auntie. He forced his way into the room. He had a cutlass in his hand. After a little disagreement, he slashed her with the cutlass.” “My auntie asked me to call for help, so I took to my heels, although I didn’t want to go. I wanted to stay behind and save her. I returned to meet my auntie dead,” she recounted. She also said Thomas Kontoh subsequently chased her in an attempt to also kill her, but she managed to escape into a neighbour’s house. She said she returned later to find out that the Uncle has also committed suicide by hanging. Officers from the Atadeka Zenu police were deployed to the scene to convey the bodies.
