As the country celebrates the birthday of its first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, many people both young and old have taken to social media to celebrate him with the #KwameNkrumahMemorialDay. Today’s statutory public holiday followed the passage of the Public Holiday Amendment Bill into law in March 2019. After leading the CPP to victory to form a government, he became the leader of government business in 1951. The move, eventually led Ghana, formally the Gold Coast to independence from British rule in 1957. As the leader of the country, Dr Nkrumah led massive socio-economic development that resulted in a number of infrastructural projects, including the construction of the Akosombo Dam, the Tema Motorway, among other projects. Ghanaian veteran actor Psalm Adjeteyfio popular as TT has finally received the GHC50K gift from Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. TT in the past few days has been in the news after he disclosed in an interview that he is facing a financial crisis making him unable to pay his rent. In the interview, TT lamented on his incapacity to pay his rent (that might render him homeless) and how he can barely feed himself and his family. The likes of Ayisha Modi, Rev. Obofour and Dr Bawumia promised to offer a helping hand to the actor after his plight was heard by them after the interview. Junta leader Col. Mamady Doumbouya said Conakry would not surrender deposed President Alpha Conde. Regional leaders have put pressure and sanctions on the junta members. After a meeting with regional leaders Friday, Guinean junta leader Col. Mamady Doumbouya dismissed the idea of letting deposed President Alpha Conde leave the country. The Guinean junta, which overthrew Conde on September 5, said it will not cave to demands from regional mediators. It also dismissed chatter that West African leaders had negotiated a way for Conde to leave Guinea. On state television, the junta’s statement read in part, “The former president is and remains in Guinea. We will not yield to any pressure.” ECOWAS Responds Ghanaian President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, currently the chair of the regional bloc ECOWAS, and Ivory Coast President Alassane Ouattara visited Doumbouya on Friday. Ouattara had hoped to leave with Conde, according to Reuters news agency. Ouattara told Radio-Television Guineenne (RTG) at the Conakry airport: “I met my brother Alpha Conde, who is doing well. We will remain in contact.” Thursday, ECOWAS slapped targeted sanctions on the Guinean junta leaders ranging from travel restrictions to the freezing of bank accounts for the leadership and their families. The sanctions are in response to the junta’s decision not to free Conde Who is Alpha Conde? Conde was deposed on September 5. He was detained during the coup. Conde first came to power in 2010, during Guinea’s first democratic elections since independence from France in 1958. Last year, Conde pushed for a constitutional referendum to make it possible for him to seek a third term in office. This led to massive demonstrations which often turned violent. The Minister for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has revealed that, the government is very keen in digitizing all sectors of the economy to help bridge the growing trend across the world. According to the minister, the government has made it a major priority in enhancing all various sectors of the country in a modern digitized way to improve on the country’s economy. The Minister who doubles as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Ofoase Ayerebi was speaking at the Opening Ceremony of the Huawei Digital Ghana Workshop for the staff of the Ministry of Information in Accra on Monday 20th September, 2021 to enhance their ICT training skills. Mr Oppong Nkrumah stressed that, despite the central government’s efforts in enhancing digitization, other ministries including the Information Ministry is also setting up departments for digitization and training of staff in the sector as well. He added that, they are happy to partner Huawei in building capacity of the management and staff of the ministry as he says continuous learning is the surest way to keeping government agenda on course thus the training for the staff and management. On his part, the Public Relations Manager (PRO) for the Huawei Ghana, David Appiah also expressed the companies resolve to help the government achieve its agenda of digitization. He promised that Huawei will enhance the capacity in ICT of over 10,000 citizens. The case involving the Head Pastor of Glorious Word Power Ministries International, Reverend Isaac Owusu Bempah, and four others has been adjourned to October 5, 2021. According to the prosecution, the extension will enable his team to amend the charges and facts of the case. The adjourned date was determined by an Accra Circuit Court judge after the lawyer for the accused, Gary Nimako, objected to an initial October 25, 2021 date proposed by the prosecutor. All the accused persons were in court today, Monday, September 20, 2021. The accused persons are standing trial for offensive conduct conducive to breach of peace, the threat of death, and the assault of public officers. An Accra High Court on Wednesday, September 15, 2021, granted Rev. Isaac Owusu Bempah and his accomplices bail after they were earlier denied bail by the Circuit Court. One-time Central Regional Minister under the Mills government, Ama Benyiwa-Doe, has died. Citi News sources say she died in the early hours of Sunday, September 19, 2021 at Tema. Madam Benyiwa-Doe, otherwise known as Chavez for her strong political views and courage, is said to have died at age 73 after a protracted ailment according to her aide. Jerry Kissi-Dei Yeboah, the special aide to Ama Benyiwa-Doe and constituency communication officer for Gomoa West told Citi News that, “yes, Auntie Ama has passed. She has not been well for sometime. She will be on and off and recently she took ill seriously and we did our best to give her the best health care… Yesterday [Friday], she had to go and rest in her room but after an hour she was uncomfortable so we had to rush her to the hospital and passed. She was 73.” Ama Benyiwa-Doe was first elected into Parliament during the December 1992 general elections on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress as MP for the Gomoa West Constituency in the Central Region. Although she hasn’t been active in politics for quite some time, she continued to work behind the scenes for the National Democratic Congress (NDC). A year ago, she granted an interview to Citi TV on Face To Face with Umaru Sanda, where she accused the NPP of plotting the downfall of the late President Atta Mills from the time he was sworn in until his demise. “What interests me and intrigues me is when the NPP keeps asking who killed Mills?
