The Accra Area Manager of the Ghana Railways Company Limited, met his untimely death after a train ran over him. According to a report on 3news.com, the young engineer was part of an inspection team of management members on a tour on the Accra-Nsawam rail line. He was part of an entourage inspecting the Accra-Nsawam rail line, An eye witness said Ing. Asante was standing in the outer frontage of the train when they saw a naked electric wire across the route around Pokuase. In an attempt to avoid being entangled by the wire, the Accra Area Manager jumped off the moving train. Unfortunately, he was overrun by the train and killed instantly. The Tema Regional Police Command has arraigned twenty-nine suspects before the Tema Circuit Court A, on Monday, 25th October 2021, for assaulting two Police officers and seizing a riot control weapon and a box of ammunition at Luhuor, a community near Sege, Ada. According to the Ghana Police, the suspects include; Nene Dadebom Anim II, Ebenezer Tetteh Nyabu, David Addi-Buer, Jeremiah Numo, Bonday Bornu, Raphael Tokoli, Noah Nyabu, Issaih Komey, Ezekil Siadah, Daniel Narh, Otu Nyabu, Adolf Bosompra, Philip Ofoe, Livingstone Wussah, Kabutey Petiafu and John Alipue Teye. In a statement signed by Acting Director General, Public Affairs, ASP Kwesi Ofori said "A Police report indicates that on 21st October, 2021, three Police Officers were responding to a distress call at Electrochem Ghana Limited at Luhuor, when they came under attack from some members of the community who blocked the road leading to the company" He also added that some of the suspects took the Police Officers hostage for more than three hours and assaulted them. He stressed that the people later seized the Riot Control weapon and destroyed a Toyota Cross-country vehicle belonging to the service. "Following the incident, the Ada Divisional Police Command embarked on an operation in Luhuor on Friday 22nd October, 2021 to arrest the perpetrators who carried the attack on the police officers and to reclaim the seized police weapon and the cartridges" It is emerging that during the operation, 36 suspects were arrested and screened after which 29 were sent to court yesterday for trial. The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Henry Quartey has warned that effective November 1, 2021, no tricycle (Aboboyaa) should ply the Tema Motorway. According to him, it forms part of the ban of Aboboyaa on major highways and its related issues. Speaking at a gathering, the Minister said "It gives me great joy to see all of you gathered here this morning for this very important exercise to announce the ban on Aboboyaa on major highways and its related issues. Indeed, your presence here is a clear indication of your commitment towards curbing indiscipline on our roads and making sure the goals of the Agenda “Let’s Make Greater Accra Work” become a reality" The Minister further added that it is part of efforts by the Regional Co-ordinating Council under the “Let’s Make Greater Accra Work” agenda in ensuring strict regulatory compliance with LI 2180. The Greater Accra Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has noted with concern the spate of gross indiscipline on our roads especially, by Motorcycle and Tricycle Riders. He added that in as much as citizens have the right to own and ride Motorcycles and Tricycles, they must be done by the Road Traffic Regulations (2012) L. I 2180. "Further to this, REGSEC in collaboration with the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), and the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), intends to rigorously enforce road traffic regulations in the metropolis through a joint task force, particularly in the area of crossing traffic lights when it turns red, riding without a license, the use of an unregistered motor bicycle or tricycle and riding without the appropriate gear" "Effective November 1st 2021, no motorized tricycle (Aboboyaa) should ply the motorway. (This is just for Aboboyaa)" Mr. Quartey noted that, in line with the intended exercise, all motorized tricycles in particular motorcycle and tricycle riders should keep away from all major highways and principal streets and restrict their operations to community riding by February 1st 2022. All owners of unregistered or uninsured Motorcycles and Tricycles shall have up to Tuesday, November 30 2021 to regularize their documentation. "Non-compliance to this directive shall be the basis for legal action. Where the Motorcycles and Tricycles remain unregistered, owners or riders must possess and provide valid customs/shipping documentations" The Minister added that all unlicensed Motorcycle and Tricycle Riders shall be arrested, prosecuted, and be made to acquire a valid Rider’s license. "All Motorcycle and Tricycle Riders shall observe all road traffic regulations. Riders who cross the red light as well as violate other traffic regulations shall be arrested and prosecuted. All Motorcycle, Pillion Riders, and Tricycle Riders shall wear the appropriate gears i.e. reflective jackets, helmets, knee and elbow protectors, and boots where applicable" The Minister stressed that motorcycles should not carry more than two persons i.e. the rider and pillion. "All Offenders will have their motorcycles/tricycles impounded. Offenders will be given a maximum of one month to show cause why the bikes should not be disposed of by CI 76 f the Ghana Police Service" He urged all to support the campaign with sensitization and massive education programmes to create awareness among the citizenry in all collective efforts to make Greater Accra work. The Chief Executive Officer of Citi FM/Citi TV, Samuel Attah-Mensah (Sammens), wants the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to relieve his ministers who have unofficially hinted of their intents to contest for the party’s flagbearership race into the 2024 elections of their posts. According to Mr. Attah-Mensah, such persons may lose focus on their core mandate if they’re not made to step aside for others to be given the opportunity to help the government execute its agenda of alleviating the plight of Ghanaians and improving the economy. “What I find wrong is the fact that you have an agric minister who wants to be the next president, who probably is not focusing on his work at the ministry. I think that the people who are in such positions who have declared that they want to be presidential candidates, the president should remove all of them from office, starting with the agric minister,” he said. Though the NPP is yet to announce a date for its presidential primaries, some bigwigs including the Vice President, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen, and Agric Minister Dr. Akoto Afriyie are reported to have exhibited their interest. “They should be removed from office so that they can concentrate on their campaign and the bid to be president so that people who want to help the president to achieve his mandate can come and do the work,” Mr. Attah-Mensah added. The historic Queen’s Baton has safely landed in Accra, Ghana from Free Town, Sierra Leone. On Monday 25th October, Mr. Alie Gibrill Koroma, a member of the Commonwealth Games Association of Sierra Leone brought the Queen’s Baton, presented it to the President of the Commonwealth Games Association Ghana, Mr. Ben Nunoo Mensah at the VIP lounge of the Kotoka International Airport. The Baton carrying Her Majesty's message to the Commonwealth began its journey to the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games with a ceremony at Buckingham Palace on 7th October 2021. Mr Nunoo Mensah who is also President of the Ghana Olympic Committee, said the Queen's message will be read aloud at the Opening Ceremony of the Commonwealth Games next year, but first, it will travel to 72 Commonwealth territories and nations, connecting communities over 90,000 miles The message was placed inside the specially designed Baton before being handed to the first Baton-bearer of the 294 day relay: Paralympian Kadeena Cox. The GOC President has assured that Ghana would create an exciting atmosphere befitting the Queen’s Baton. The Baton will be in Ghana for the next two days and would be held by the President, Nana Akufo-Addo and other dignitaries of state as well as celebrated citizens and distinguished sportsmen and women. The baton will move to Tema and thence to Kumasi where the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II will hold it with some of his subjects at Manhyia palace. Following that, it moves to Ntonso, where the Adinkra symbols originated, and Bonwere, known to be the origin of the popular Kente cloth. At least 100 people will bear the Baton before it moves to Cameroon on October 28. The Ghana Police Service says following its engagement with the Urban Roads Development on Tuesday, engineers om site have created an additional lane on the affected roads to ease the traffic situation. Traffic flow is therefore expected to improve from afternoon. According to the engineers, the project is expected to last for one month. The motoring public should be rest assured that, the Police will continue to collaborate with the Urban Roads Development team to monitor the situation, reassess the traffic flow and make further adjustments when possible to mitigate any inconveniences. The Ghana Police Service has hinted that the ongoing road construction on the Spintex Road-Flowerpot area has resulted in heavy vehicular traffic on that stretch. The construction has affected some sections of the road leaving a narrow passage for road users. The Police Administration wishes to advise motorist using the affected roads to exercise patience and follow the directions of police officers deployed to control the traffic. Meanwhile, the Police are engaging the Department of Urban Roads and the contractor concerned to help manage the situation, including they considering the possibility of working in the night for an early completion. This information has also been shared with media houses for them to notify the motoring public of the situation. Members of the public may explore alternative routes where possible. The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare has interacted with various heads of Religious and Faith-Based Organisations in the country. According to the IGP, the meeting was aimed at reminding the leaders on the legal implications of their activities. Addressing the gathering, the IGP said "The main purpose of the meeting was to start a process to sensitise religious leaders on the legal implications of aspects of their religious works" The IGP also reminded the religious leaders that although the service respects the various religions in the country, it will not hesitate to crack the whip on anyone who flouts the laws. Dr. Akuffo Dampare further hinted that although there are freedoms the church/mosque enjoys, their actions will be seriously checked. The meeting also brought to highlighted the spiritual and requirements of evidence as required by the court. Religious doctrines that contravenes provisions of the Constitution and the general enforcement of the laws were also deliberated on. On their part, the religious leaders lauded the IGP for the meetings and assured him of adhering to the rules and regulations. The meeting brought under one umbrella the Police Management Board (POMAB), representatives of the Christian Council of Ghana, office of the National Chief Imam, Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference, Pentecostal and Charismatic Council. The Birmingham 2022 Queen’s Baton Relay has arrived in Ghana, reaching the 6th  destination out of the 72 Commonwealth nations and territories it will be visiting. Arriving from Sierra Leone, the Baton has officially touched down at Kotoka International Airport. The Queen’s Baton, which carries a message from Her Majesty the Queen, arrived in Ghana as part of its journey to the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, which will be held in England from 28 July until 8 August 2022. The Queen’s Baton is in Ghana for 3 (three) days and during it’s time here, it will be carried by Baton bearers, including current and legacy athletes, and will visit Jubilee House, Manhyia Palace, Rattray Park, Adinkra Village at Ntonsu, and Bonwire Tourist Centre and experience Ghana culture and way of life. President of CGA, Mr. Ben Nunoo-Mensah, said: “It is fantastic to have the Baton arrive in Ghana today. Zinedine Zidane is reported to have discarded the prospect of becoming Manchester United manager. Zinedine Zidane has no interest in becoming Manchester United manager should Ole Gunnar Solskjaer be sacked, according to reports in Spain. Cutting down United's potential options in an already thin field, Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo on Monday reported that Zidane is not ready to return to management. Zidane is without a job, as things stand, after leaving Real Madrid for a second time at the end of last season. Pressure on Solskjaer has intensified over the last 24 hours after United were swept aside 5-0 by bitter rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford, Mohamed Salah taking centre stage with a hat-trick after earlier goals from Naby Keita and Diogo Jota. It's a humiliating result that might yet have drastic repercussions for Solskjaer as United continue to be linked with approaches for Zidane and former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte - who most recently guided Inter Milan to their first Scudetto in over a decade before walking out over a reportedly dispute with the club owners. Embattled Dancehall Musician, Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, has been selected to carry the Queen’s Baton Relay for the 2022 Commonwealth Games when it arrives in Ghana. Other baton bearers including Stonebwoy and Kofi Kinaata have also been trusted to carry the Queen’s message placed inside the baton visiting all 72 Commonwealth countries. The Queen’s Baton Relay is a tradition that celebrates, connects, and excites communities from across the Commonwealth during the build-up to the Games. The Relay was launched on October 7, 2021, which will then embark on a 294-day adventure across Europe, Africa, Asia, Oceania, the Caribbean, and the Americas. More than 7,500 baton bearers will be trusted to carry the baton during the Relay – a once-in-a-lifetime experience. In a Tweet, the Ghana Olympics Committee said the Balon team will arrive in Ghana on Monday, October 25. It added that from Tuesday 26th – 28th October 2021 the Baton will travel across the principal streets of Accra, Tema, and Kumasi. Ghana’s President, Nana Akufo-Addo will first receive it in a short ceremony. Meanwhile, Shatta Wale is spending a one-week remand time at the Ankaful Maximum Security Prison after pleading not guilty to the charge of the publication of false news that caused fear and panic. His next court appearance is slated for Tuesday, October 26, 2021. It is however not yet clear whether he will be granted bail to enable him to carry the baton as planned.
