President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has stated that his vision for the country and Africa’s transformation is heavily influenced by the Bible. “I am a Christian who is in politics and unashamed of asserting my Christian faith as part of my political calling and I freely admit that my vision for my country, and Africa’s transformation, is heavily influenced by the Bible,” he declared. President Akufo-Addo made the declaration yesterday at the inaugural Africa lecture by the Museum of the Bible at a museum in Washington, DC, capital of the United States of America. Family He said he was born into a family with deep Presbyterian convictions, with his maternal ancestry, including his great-grandparents, being part of the pioneer evangelists of the Presbyterian faith. “My paternal ancestry encompasses iconic 19th Century Presbyterian priests, whose evangelical ministries remain enduring legacies and inspirations for successive generations of Presbyterian priests,” the President said. He said he was baptised a Presbyterian and changed to Anglican because of schooling, but added that Anglican or Presbyterian, the Bible was a focal point in their home and his parents found an apt scripture for every situation that came up in their lives. Adulthood President Akufo-Addo said whether as a lawyer or a politician he had always tried not to lose sight of the fact that his Christian faith should be an integral part of the practise of his chosen profession. He added that the public had the perception that being a lawyer could pose problems that might be difficult to reconcile with being a Christian. Law and Bible The President cited an often-quoted advertisement on a billboard for a law office in an American city to illustrate the bewilderment with the law that many people face. Reading the advertisement: “Just because you did it doesn’t mean you’re guilty,” the President said lawyers would readily understand the point but “we can also appreciate the mischief that this will cause among the public”. President Akufo-Addo noted that Christianity was a way of life and a legal practice covered all aspects of their everyday lives, and quoted “The Ivory Gate”, a legal novel by Sir Walter Beasant in which the author painted a most optimistic view of a lawyer in contrast with the way lawyers are usually portrayed in other books. “The solicitor is always engaged in considering how best to guide his fellow-man through the labyrinthine world. He receives his fellow man at his entrance into life as a ward; he receives him grown up as a client; he advises him all his life, at every step, and in every emergency,” excerpts of what the President quoted read. Politics Speaking about politics, President Akufo-Addo said it was no less turbulent in the last 45 years, adding that he was dissatisfied with the condition of life of the majority of the people and that was why he struggled to get the opportunity to do something about it. “The story of my struggles to become President of my country is well known. My experiences have been a testimony of God’s love, and a vindication of the words of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, as quoted at Matthew 19:26, which states “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” National Cathedral President Akufo-Addo noted that his faith in God was also the motivation for what he described as “a priority of priorities that we are undertaking in the country”. “This is the construction of the National Cathedral of Ghana, which first brought us to this venue three years ago, in February 2019,” the President declared. He explained that the National Cathedral addressed a missing link in Ghana’s architecture by providing a formal space for the religious activities of the state. “Designed by the iconic global Ghanaian architect, David Adjaye, who designed the National Museum of African American History and Culture here in Washington DC, the National Cathedral provides an interdenominational space for worship and will serve to insert God at the centre of our nation building efforts,” President added. He said they had integrated a Bible Museum and Biblical Garden as part of the project. According to sources, the Former MP died after a short illness. It is emerging that the Late MP was married with four children. Late John Ndebugre who represented the People's National Convention (PNC) served in the 4th Parliament of the 4th Republic of Ghana. He was elected as MP in 2004. Information gathered reveals that his constituency was part of the 3 parliamentary seats out of 13 seats won by the People's National Convention in that election for the Upper East Region. The Takoradi Circuit Court has sentenced a 49-year-old self-acclaimed ‘Mallam’ to five years imprisonment over charges of defrauding by false pretense contrary to section 131 of the Criminal Offenses Act 1960 (Act 29). The accused, Ibrahim Adelove, is said to have duped a Takoradi-based businesswoman, Kike Rahim, of $10,000 equivalent to GH¢77,000 under the pretense of securing some goods from Togo. The accused had earlier duped the businesswoman of a huge amount in Ghana cedis to help her reverse some so-called misfortunes in life. The court presided over by His Lordship Michael Ampadu convicted Ibrahim and sentenced him to serve as a deterrent to others. Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Robert Yawson told the court that complainant Kike Rahim is a trader who deals in spiritual fragrances and ointments in Takoradi. In 2019, she approached Ibrahim Adelove, a self-acclaimed ‘Mallam’ who resides in Kwesimintsim in the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipality of the Western Region. He added that the accused tactfully established acquaintances with the complainant to assist her to put brakes on her spiritual retardation. The accused later revealed to the complainant that her own mother was the cause of her backwardness in life and promised to help her to clear the bondage. Complainant naively believed the self-acclaimed Mallam and he succeeded in extorting countless amount of money from her. The self-acclaimed Mallam convinced the complainant to give him money to buy her merchandise at a considerably cheaper rate from the Republic of Togo. She accepted the idea and gave the accused an equivalent amount of $10,000 in Ghana Cedis for the purchase of the items. After a week, the accused was nowhere to be found and several phone calls to his phone proved unsuccessful. He later told the complainant that the whole money got missing whilst in transit to Togo. The businesswoman, however, debunked his claims, insisting that he pays back her money. The accused returned to Takoradi but refused to pay back the money. On Wednesday, March 9 at about 5:00pm, the complainant spotted the accused around Davi Ama Chop Bar in Takoradi and raised an alarm that led to his arrest. The accused admitted receipt of the money and further admitted that he invested it in a petrol business in Togo but the business unfortunately crashed. Source: 3News

The High Court in Accra has sentenced one Bright Boso, a driver, who was charged for allegedly pouring an acid on his girlfriend to 10 years in prison. The court presided over by Justice Lydia Osei Marfo convicted him after the court found him guilty of the offence before sentencing him. Boso, had pleaded not guilty to the charge of causing harm and the case went through full trial. “Accused is found guilty and convicted accordingly. Sentenced to 10 years in hard labour. The court also appealed with civil society and philar organizations to help fund the surgery cost of the victim. The victim who is on the verge of losing her sight need assistance of about GHC60k and GHC6k which is needed immediately for surgery. Request for pardon Prior to being sentenced, the convict had prayed the court to pardon him to enable him take care of his children. “I am pleading with the Court to forgive me because if convicted there will be nobody to take care of the kids and the victim,” he told the court Brief facts The brief facts of the case presented to the court by Selasie Kuwornu, a Senior State Attorney, were that, the victim Grace Amezando is a 24-year old woman who used to be in a romantic relationship with the accused Bright Boso, a commercial driver. The prosecutor said, the victim co-habited with the accused in a kiosk on an undeveloped land at Christian Village, Accra and they have two children. According to the prosecution, sometime in December 2020, the accused Bright Boso accused the victim of cheating on him with one Gyan who lived in their neighbourhood. She said, on May 11, 2021, the accused and the victim quarreled over the same issue and the victim left the house. According to the prosecution, she joined a bus heading towards Ashongman Estate, but the accused followed her by joining the same bus. “She alighted at the Ashongman Estate last stop and the accused did same,” the prosecutor told the court. The accused According to the prosecution, then, verbally abused her in public and told her that she was cheating on him because she was beautiful. The convict, then threatened her that she would soon look like an old woman. “On May 13, 2021, the accused went to work. He returned sometime after midnight which was about 12:00am on the 14th of May 2021. “He entered their kiosk, poured an acidic liquid on the victim who was sleeping at the time and stepped out again. “A few minutes after he had stepped out, the victim started feeling burning sensations on her skin and pain in her eye,” the prosecutor noted. The victim, the prosecutor said, run out of the kiosk for help and she was rushed to the hospital and eventually referred to the Plastic Surgery and Burns Centre at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital for treatment. “She suffered an injury to the eye and burns on her face, chest, breasts and two arms. “Upon his arrest for the offence, the accused admitted the offence and narrated how after a repair work on the battery of his vehicle, he poured some of the acid taken out of his battery and stored in a container. The convict also stated that he poured the acid on the victim when he returned from work and after midnight of May 14, 2021. It was almost impossible. Almost. When the game looks dead in the Champions League this season, Real Madrid will keep it alive. Rodrygo scored twice for Real Madrid in 84 seconds to stun Manchester City and take the game into extra-time, before Karim Benzema scored the winning penalty to secure the most improbable turnaround, with a 3-1 win on the night. For 89 minutes - this was an almost perfect away performance from Pep Guardiola’s side. The tie was won. The match report was written and City were set for an all-English Champions League final against Liverpool. Riyad Mahrez’s goal looked like it was enough to win the game on the night, until Rodrygo was introduced from the bench. Then, as it has so many times this season, chaos ensued. Two goals, the first a tap-in and the second a header from close range in little over a minute would have blown the roof off the Bernabeu, had it been built yet. We saw it against PSG and we saw it against Chelsea, but this was the most dramatic of the lot as the home side scored with their first two attempts on target. Guardiola was left stunned. Waste management expert, Zoomlion Ghana Limited a mother-subsidiary of the Jospong Group of Companies has donated several bags of rice, boxes of cooking oil and an undisclosed amount of Ghana cedis to the National Chief Imam, Dr. Shirk Osman Nuhu Sharabutu for the celebration of this year's Eid Ul Fitr. Presenting the cash and items together, Communications and Corporate Affairs Director of Zoomlion, Ms Emma Adwoa Appiaa Osei-Duah underscored the satisfactory relationship that exists between the Jospong Group, the National Chief Imam and the Muslim Community in Ghana. She said the kind gesture from the Executive Chairman of the Jospong Group of Companies, Dr. Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, the management and entire Zoomlion was to further strengthen the corporate relationship between the two sides. Ms Osei-Duah particularly commended the Chief Imam for his unrelenting prayers for the Executive Chairman of the Jospong Group of Companies and the management and staff of Zoomlion. She disclosed that the company has no intention to end the relationship anytime soon and therefore assured strengthened collaborations towards keeping the Zongo communities clean at all times. The Communications Director however, appealed to the Chief Imam to use any available forum to inculcate into Ghanaians as a whole and Muslims in particular to subscribe to the Zoomlion "One Million Bin Project" and own a waste bin so as to end the regular haphazard waste disposal that is associated to the Zongo communities. It is unfortunate that the hard working Muslim women who feed the Ghanaian population with sumptuous meals such as waakye, kooko, emutuo and so on have to generate waste sometimes at the end of the day, therefore a waste bin for each of them should end the waste spilling into the streets and the Zongos. "I know that the scriptures speak of cleanliness and Islam is no exception so therefore our father (Chief Imam) and his able representatives across Ghana will help in this direction for Zoomlion to distribute at least One Million Bins to various households in Ghana. On his part, the National Chief Imam thanked the entourage of Zoomlion at his palace and encourage them to come more often not necessarily to give but to pray with him. He was full of praises to Dr. Dr. Agyepong for always keeping him (Chief Imam) in his prayers and endeavours and blessed him and his companies and staff with a prayer to climax the visit. The directive was issued by Nene Amegatcher JSC, following a unanimous dismissal of an application for injunction brought to the Court by some NDC MPs against the start of the Electronic Transfer Act on May 1. Ghanaian Coach, Otto Addo, has revealed that he has been given permission by Borussia to lead the Black Stars in international games, including the 2022 FIFA World Cup. An announcement is yet to be made by the Ghana Football Association on Otto Addo’s future but he is expected to continue as the head coach after qualifying the team to Qatar. “I got permission from Dortmund. Under certain conditions, it works out that I can do the international game phases in June, September and also the World Cup,” he stated on the Hamburger Abdenblatt podcast. The trainer scout was given the job after Ghana’s horrific showing in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations. He led the team through the final hurdle of the World Cup qualifiers against Nigeria, beating the Super Eagles on away goals rule.
