One of the victims of the alleged money doubling scam allegedly perpetuated by the Founder of Heaven Way Church in Accra, Patricia Asiedua formerly known as Nana Agradaa, has narrated that the evangelist played Shatta Wale’s ‘Kakai’ song after scamming them. The victim, a female, who was captured in a video tape around the church premises, circulating on social media indicated that she came all the way from the Northern Region to seek blessings from Nana Agradaaa. She stated that her decision to give out her money was as a result of an assurance that she was given to receive financial breakthrough in an advert that was done by Nana Agradaa on television. “I came all the way from North because I wanted financial breakthrough. I saw her advert on television and decided to come. Now I don’t have any money on me therefore I have to walk back home. “My brother here [pointing to another victim, male] also came from Cote D’Ivoire and has also lost his money,” she said. She added “she was playing and singing Shata Wale’s song ‘I de come like Kakai’ to us.” Meanwhile, the Police have arrested Nana Agradaa, following allegations of money doubling scam levelled against her by some members of the public. She is currently assisting police investigation. “Anyone who is a victim of the alleged money doubling scam should report to the Accra Regional Police Command for further action to assist the investigation,” the Police said in a statement on Sunday October 8. Northern Region representative, Teiya Ayisha Dahamani has won the crown, cash and car of 2022 Ghana’s Most Beautiful competition. The Dean of Institute of Local Government Studies, Dr Fredrick Agyarko Oduro has called for an end to the politicization of the fight against illegal small small scale mining mining (Galamsey). He stated that politicizing the fight empowers the criminals to go on with their practices. The main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) have traded allegations and counter allegations over who caused the galamsey menace to rise in the country. But speaking on the Key Points on TV3 Saturday October 9, Dr Oduro Agyarko said “politicizing galamsey will give criminals the oxygen to engage in galasmey, “we live in a country where organized crime in mining is virtually taking control of the country…and they are getting into the area of cocoa.” He further proposed to the government to place a ban on all mining activities for a while in order to rescue the environment from Galamsey. He said even if the ban will take one hundred years for the the country to recover the environment, it should be done. Also speaking on the Key Points on TV3 Saturday October 8, he indicated that the country has been mining for centuries yet with little to show for. The Former Secretary to the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), Charles Onuawonto Bissue, has descended heavily on ace investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas for recently revisiting his issue on galamsey. Charles Bissue, a former Western Region Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), had been mentioned by the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as a candidate of imprisonment over his involvement in small-scale illegal mining as captured in the work of Anas Aremeyaw Anas. But Anas’s Tiger Eye PI then revisited the issue.It was this that goaded Mr Bissue to issue a statement dated Friday, October 7, 2022. He sought to clarify the content of the 2018 investigative documentary. "I did not demand any money from the applicant with promise of fast tracking or facilitating the process,” he refuted Anas’s allegations, describing his work as “corrupted”. A data collection training aimed at equipping the various municipalities within the Greater Accra Region with skills on data gathering on sanitation has ended. The programme is to help identify challenges within the sanitation space and offer the requisite solutions. The three-day skills training, which was conducted by African Environmental Sanitation (AFES) Consult and Consultants in collaboration with the Environmental Service Providers Association (ESPA), ended on Saturday, October 8, 2022. Speaking to the media last Friday during a monitoring and supervision of the Data Audit and Validation Exercise (DAVE) at the Accra Technical Training Centre (ATTC), Ayawaso Central where 100 people were being trained, the District Lead for Ayawaso Central Municipality, Benoni Acquah, stressed the need for more data to be collected on sanitation. “The whole exercise is about data collection, and we are collecting data on sanitation in Ayawaso Central Municipality,” he said. He explained that the data that would be gathered would help identify challenges of sanitation and find ways of addressing them. “We have registered organisations that collect data and some are already in the system and within the municipalities,” he added. According to him, the whole monitoring and supervision operation was to find out which ones were active and were doing their work and those that were not. Mr. Acquah indicated that after the training programme, the main field work (that is collection of data) will commence on October 12, 2022, and end October 28, 2022. On Saturday, October 8, there was a pre-test exercise where trained field officers were deployed on the field. “And we’ll see if there will be any challenges and if there are no challenges, then on the 12th of October, we will get to the field and begin to collect the data,” he assured. The data, he further added, will be used in decision-making, especially with the loads of sanitation challenges in Accra. “I think it is in the right direction to collect data, identify the challenges so the right policies would be made to resolve it,” he underscored. From Ayawaso Central, the team moved to La Dadekotopong where 124 persons were undergoing training at the St. Thomas Aquinas Senior High School centre. According to the District Lead, Nathaniel Addo, the data that will be gathered will give sanitation management companies the opportunity to know happenings in the sector. He, therefore, entreated residents within the municipality to refrain from littering about, adding that “it is a bad practice.” Other centres visited included Accra Girls Senior High School in the Ayawaso East where 64 persons were taken through data collection skills. At the last centre at Osu Presby SHS in the Korle-Klottey Municipal District, the team observed that 80 people were undergoing training. According to the District Lead, Adelaide Naa Adorley, curbing sanitation issues within the municipality was very challenging. She attributed this to the fact that many of the residents did not have waste bins. Goldblatt (2005:6) says an event is “A unique moment in time celebrated with ceremony and rituals to satisfy specific needs”, adding that there are four purposes for hosting events: The purposes are for: “The celebration of human life, for education, for marketing and awareness creation and for reuniting people” (Goldblatt, 2005:8). Road Minister apologies for poor state of Cape Coast Takoradi Road as he inspects Essikado Ketan section of the road with Joe Ghartey The Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwesi Amoako-Atta, apologized for the poor nature of the Cape Coast - Takoradi road as he inspected the Essikado-Ketan section of the road with Hon. Joe Ghartey. Mr. Amoako-Atta has therefore given the Chief Executive Officer of Asabea Constructions, Samuel Ofori Larbi, an eight-week deadline to complete works on the Nkroful Junction to Ketan stretch of the main Takoradi-Cape Coast Highway. The Minister gave the deadline after the Member of Parliament for Essikado-Ketan Constituency, Hon. Ghartey had raised concerns about the poor state of the road. Hon. Ghartey had expressed his dissatisfaction in no uncertain terms with the detoriation of the road. In order to avoid traffic when the Minister for Roads was on inspection in his constituency, Hon Joe Ghartey was seen on a motorbike riding behind his constituency youth organizer, Mohammed Sani. Mr. Ghartey told the Roads Minister that whilst as an MP he had received a lot of support from the Department of Urban Roads, he could not say same about Highways. Mr. Amoako-Atta admitted indeed that Hon. Ghartey was right that the road was indeed in a poor state, saying he was not satisfied with the progress of work and reports reaching him that the contractor had left site about four times. The Roads Minister therefore charged the Regional Highways Officer to give him a daily report of the progress of work, insisting that the contractor must finish the work within eight weeks. Presidential candidate aspirant of the ruling New Patriotic Party, Hon. Joe Ghartey, is expected to co-chair the Germany branch of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP). Hon. Coalition of Zongo Leaders against Open Defecation in the Ashanti Region have paid a courtesy call on the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Usman Nuhu Sharubutu and the Ministry of Sanitation. According to the Coalition of Zongo Leaders, its visit was seek the support and blessing as it embarks on the nationwide fight against open defecation in Zongo communities. Speaking at the residence of the Chief Imam, the Ashanti Regional Chief Imam, Shaikh Imam Abdul Mumin Haruna said “With all these plans and activities ongoing, the Office of Ashanti Regional Chief Imam, in consultation with all the Imams and Zongo Chiefs in the Eight Assemblies decided to pay a courtesy call on the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Usman Nuhu Sharubutu, who was also made the Chief Sanitation Patron by the Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Hon. Cecilia Abena Dapaah in 2019, to seek his blessings for the Coalition of Zongo Leaders Against Open Defecation and buy-in for effective implementation of the Project in low communities in Greater Accra and Greater Kumasi,” “We will therefore entreat His Eminence to nominate an officer from his Office to liaise with the Ashanti Regional Office to ensure that all Imams across the country join in the Coalition of Zongo leaders Against Open Defecation.” The call for the Project to be extended to all Zongo Communities is premised on the fact that the Project’s design through the provision of the biodigester toilet technology is very convenient for the Zongo communities because it does not require too much space to construct. “Also, the price of the facilities being 1200ghc for a complete toilet and 700ghc for a biodigester with a toilet seat and handwashing basin is very affordable for low-income households,” he continued. The delegation, later in the day made a stop at the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources. Interacting with the Deputy Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Hamidu Isahaku Chinnia, the office of the Ashanti Regional Chief Imam underscored the need for every household in the country to have a toilet. They appealed to the Ministry to throw its support behind the project. The office of the Ashanti Regional Chief Imam says it believes the Ministry will help in the fight against open defecation. It was optimistic that the move will also improve sanitation in Greater Kumasi and beyond. On his part, Deputy Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Hamidu Isahaku Chinnia commended the Zongo Leaders for the initiative. He pledged his personal support likewise commitment of the Ministry in making the agenda a reality.
