Deputy Health Minister tours Berekum Holy Family Hospital, assess operations and maternal health services

Deputy Minister for Health, Prof. Dr. Grace Ayensu-Danquah, has concluded her two-day official working visit to the Bono Region with a walk-through at the Berekum Holy Family Hospital to assess its operations and maternal and newborn health services.

The visit formed part of engagements under the Maternal Mortality Action and Response Programme (MMARP), a government initiative aimed at identifying gaps in maternal healthcare delivery and strengthening interventions to reduce preventable maternal deaths.

Established on April 24, 1948, by the Medical Mission Sisters as a small clinic, the Berekum Holy Family Hospital has over the years expanded into a secondary-level municipal hospital and a facility of the Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG) under the Catholic Diocese of Sunyani.

Prof. Dr. Ayensu-Danquah and her team were received by the Hospital Administrator, Rev. Sister Reena V. John, who led the delegation through various departments of the facility.

During the tour, the Deputy Minister engaged management and staff on the hospital’s operations, service delivery and challenges confronting the facility, with particular attention to maternal and newborn healthcare.

The discussions provided an opportunity for the Ministry to gain first-hand insight into the realities of healthcare delivery at the facility and the interventions required to improve maternal health outcomes.

The Berekum Holy Family Hospital engagement was among a series of stakeholder and health-facility interactions undertaken by the Deputy Minister during her Bono Region tour as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration and accelerate action towards reducing maternal mortality.
