"Show More Seriousness In The Matters of The University Teachers" - USAG To Gov't (Pics/Video)

The Leadership of the University Students' Association of Ghana (USAG) has charged the Akufo-Addo government to show more seriousness in matters of their teachers following a strike action by the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) over poor conditions of services.

According to USAG, the strike action by their teachers is affecting their studies thus calling on the government to do the needful.

Addressing Journalists in Accra on Monday, the President of USAG, Christian Philip Armah said "We are here to state that the Ghanaian student who has paid his or her school fees deserves better and for that matter needs to be treated fairly"

He added that if the fight between UTAG and Government is not brought to an end, it is the students who will suffer greatly.

Mr. Armah said "We have already suffered due to covid-19, our academic calendar has been distorted and we do not know when this academic calendar is going to resume since this strike earlier eluded to is an indefinite one"

USAG reminded Journalists that the press conference was not intended to support either Government or teachers but rather protect the interests of all University students in the country.

"We entreat Government within the shortest possible time to engage the University Teachers Association of Ghana and the Senior Staffs of the University of Ghana with the aim of addressing issues in a manner both parties will be satisfied"

USAG entreated the Government and UTAG not to take entrenched positions adding that such positions have not yielded any good results.

"We ask the government of Ghana to demonstrate good faith in its dealings with the Unions on the negotiations," he said.

USAG appealed to UTAG to consider the plight of the Ghanaian students and unconditionally withdraw, suspend, and call off the strike action.

He hinted that most students are preparing for their mid-semester.

Mr. Armah admonished the students to stay calm and focused on their studies as the issues are being resolved.
