As the political dust slowly settles on the 2024 general elections, a new conversation is emerging within the ranks of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and across Ghana’s political landscape — who will carry the torch for the party in 2028?
While several names may be floated, one name rises above the rest for his strategic vision, unwavering dedication to national development, and transformative impact in a sector often overlooked: Dr. Bryan Acheampong.
Dr. Acheampong, the Former Minister for Food and Agriculture, may have quietly exited the frontline of governance, but the seeds of reform he sowed in Ghana’s agricultural sector continue to bear fruit.
His tenure marked a turning point in how Ghana viewed agriculture — not merely as a tool for subsistence, but as a viable economic powerhouse, capable of driving sustainable growth, job creation, and national food security.
Under his leadership, Ghana began a shift from theory to action. He did not just talk about agricultural transformation — he implemented it.
His policies reflected a bold vision: mechanized farming, increased access to credit for smallholder farmers, youth involvement in agribusiness, and the reengineering of irrigation systems across drought-prone areas.
Through the Planting for Food and Jobs Phase II initiative, he spearheaded the most comprehensive agricultural modernization programme the country had seen in years — aiming to turn Ghana into a net exporter of food in West Africa.
Dr. Acheampong’s approach was simple but profound: treat agriculture as a business.
He championed reforms that connected production to markets, encouraged value addition, and positioned agriculture as a foundation for industrialization.
His foresight in linking the agriculture sector with food processing industries and export markets was a game-changer — and one that Ghana desperately needed.
Beyond his work in agriculture, Dr. Acheampong possesses rare qualities of leadership: discipline, strategic planning, and a quiet resolve to get things done.
He understands governance not as an opportunity for fanfare but as a duty to create lasting impact.
His background in security, coupled with his business acumen, gives him a unique perspective on national stability and economic development.
In a time when many Ghanaians are calling for a new kind of leadership — one that is pragmatic, productive, and principled — Dr. Bryan Acheampong fits the mold.
He represents a new generation of Ghanaian leadership: one that is results-driven, unafraid to confront tough challenges, and focused on empowering citizens through tangible opportunities.
The NPP, a party that prides itself on forward-thinking policies and national development, would do well to rally behind a leader who embodies these principles.
Dr. Acheampong has proven himself not just as a capable minister but as a visionary statesman who sees Ghana not for what it is, but what it can become.
As we look ahead to 2028, Ghanaians must choose not just a president, but a path. A path to food security, economic independence, and modernized development.
A path to sustainable growth and transformation rooted in innovation and inclusive policies.
That path, in my view, is best led by Dr. Bryan Acheampong.
He is not just the best bet for the NPP.
He is the best bet for Ghana.
