Royal Foam Ghana Limited has joined forces with health professionals to emphasize the critical importance of quality sleep in maintaining overall physical and mental well-being.
The company made this call during its ongoing Royal Wow Promo Market Awareness Campaign, aimed at educating the public on the health benefits of proper rest and the role of quality mattresses in achieving it.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Richard Korsah, a medical practitioner at Jaggreys Fertility and Medical Services, described sleep as “an essential human function, just like breathing and eating,” explaining that the body undergoes vital restorative processes during rest.
“When you sleep, your body is still, but your brain remains active. It carries out essential processes that promote healing, emotional balance, and mental restoration,” Dr. Korsah said.

He noted that most adults require seven to nine hours of sleep each night to function effectively, while children and teenagers need even more rest due to their ongoing development.
According to him, the body’s circadian rhythm—a natural internal clock that regulates sleep and wake cycles—can be disrupted by shift work, stress, or lifestyle habits, often leading to sleep disorders and long-term health issues.
Dr. Korsah cautioned that inadequate sleep impairs concentration, mood, and decision-making, increasing the risk of accidents and reducing productivity.

“Lack of proper rest slows reaction time and can lead to chronic illnesses such as diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, stroke, and depression,” he warned.
Addressing the challenges faced by shift workers, he advised maintaining consistent sleep schedules, creating a calm and dark sleep environment, and avoiding stimulants such as caffeine, alcohol, and nicotine before bedtime.
He also urged people to reduce distractions from electronic devices and bright lights during rest periods.

On the importance of sleeping environment, Dr. Korsah underscored that a good mattress is crucial for proper spinal alignment and overall sleep quality.
“If your mattress sags, creaks, or leaves you stiff, it’s time for a replacement,” he noted, adding that sleeping on the wrong mattress can lead to back and neck pain, fatigue, and poor sleep.

He further explained that mattress choice should depend on sleeping posture—back sleepers need firmer support, side sleepers benefit from softer surfaces, while combination sleepers should opt for medium-firm mattresses for balanced comfort.
For his part, Baffour Awuah Assibey, General Manager of Royal Foam Ghana Limited, encouraged Ghanaians to prioritize sleep health by investing in quality bedding.

“Good sleep starts with the right mattress,” he stated. “At Royal Foam, we are committed to helping Ghanaians experience better rest through durable and affordable bedding solutions.”
The company’s initiative forms part of its broader commitment to promoting health and wellness by educating the public on the direct link between quality sleep and overall well-being.
