GIZ/UK FCDO Sponsor EOCO Regional Directors, Heads Of Unit Capacity Building In Asset Recovery Mgt


On July 20, the Executive Director of Economic and Organised Crime Office, Maame Tiwaa Addo-Danquah opened a course on the operationalization of the Asset Recovery and Management Standard Operating Procedure and Leadership with sponsorship from GIZ Governance for Inclusive Development Programme co-funded by the UK Foreign Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO).


The Deputy Executive Director of Operations, Nana Antwi at the opening ceremony mentioned that since EOCO has been chosen out of all the law enforcement agencies to be the hub for Asset Recovery and Management, it beholds on EOCO to build capacity of its officers make this additional responsibility a realty.


The representative of GIZ, Mr. Sampson Kwakwa thanked the Executive Director for the opportunity to sponsor the development of a policy, implementation strategy and Standard Operating Procedure on Asset Recovery and Management.


He further noted that the reason the world loses so much money when it comes to crime is as a result of law enforcement agencies’ inability to manage assets that become the subject of investigations.


He was particularly excited that all key stakeholders were represented and contributed their expertise to the development of the three documents.


He encouraged Management of the Office to ensure that the document becomes a living one which would stand the test of time. He wished all participants well on the training.


COP Addo-Danquah in her opening remarks expressed her utmost appreciation to GIZ and its technical advisor on illicit financial flows in the person of Mr Kwakwa.


She said as team leaders of their various regions and units, it is imperative to meet regularly and upgrade their capacities to effectively discharge the mandate of the Office.


Training in leadership is necessary therefore to better manage the human and material resources available Ghana.


She urged all participants of the training to take the training seriously in order to have the full benefits of the contents of the three-day training programme.


The training that lasted three days had in attendance seasoned resource persons such as Rev. Michael Asiedu- Antwi, Partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWc) and Dr. Collins Badu Agyemang a Licensed Organizational Psychologist from the Department of Psychology, University of Ghana.
