In a bid to enhance healthcare delivery and tackle the growing burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has donated GH¢2 million to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, popularly known as MahamaCares.

The donation was presented during a brief ceremony where Mr. Richard Nunekpeku, Deputy CEO of GoldBod, reaffirmed the organization’s belief in the vision of former President John Dramani Mahama and the leadership of the Fund.

"We are convinced of the foresight behind MahamaCares and the capacity of its administrators to use the resources effectively to deliver on its mission,” he stated.

He also urged other institutions—both public and private—to support the initiative.

Receiving the donation, Fund Administrator Obuobia Darko Opoku highlighted urgent gaps in the health sector, citing a recent needs assessment that revealed dire shortages of critical medical equipment in key Accra hospitals.

“Our focus is to equip health institutions with the tools needed to provide quality care for patients battling non-communicable diseases,” she noted.

The GH¢2 million contribution marks a major show of public-private collaboration in health financing and is expected to go a long way in supporting infrastructure and equipment needs across the country’s healthcare facilities.

This gesture by the Ghana Gold Board is being hailed as a significant step toward building a stronger, more responsive health system for all Ghanaians.
