The Forestry Commission (FC) has reaffirmed its commitment to staff welfare by organizing a vibrant and engaging 2025 Health Week celebration, under the theme “Greening Our Environment, Healthy Forests, Healthy People: A Sustainable Future.” The week-long event, spearheaded by the Commission’s Human Resources Department, featured a series of health-centered activities aimed at promoting employee wellness and fostering team spirit.
A key highlight of the week was a two-day comprehensive health screening conducted at the Commission’s auditorium by medical professionals from Health Web.

Staff underwent a wide range of checks including Full Blood Count (FBC), blood sugar and pressure monitoring, Liver and Kidney Function Tests, Body Mass Index (BMI) assessments, eye and dental examinations, among others.
The initiative was widely applauded by staff who expressed appreciation to the HR Department for making their health a priority.

Complementing the screening sessions were informative health talks led by medical experts.
Dr. Paulina Opoku Abankwah of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital addressed stress and productivity, while Mr. Elikem William Sorkpah from the Chiropractic and Wellness Centre spoke on posture and spinal health.

Dr. George Merkel Abuah and his team from Zoe Dental wrapped up the session with oral hygiene education, encouraging proper brushing habits and reduced sugar consumption.
Adding excitement to the wellness campaign were themed days such as “Rep Your Jersey,” where staff wore football jerseys representing clubs like Manchester United, Chelsea, Barcelona, and Arsenal—boosting morale and team camaraderie.

“Rep Your School” Day saw employees don attire from their alma maters, sparking nostalgic conversations and unity. A fruit exchange also encouraged healthy snacking and kindness.
The fun continued with “FC Goes Old Skul,” where staff stepped back in time with 80s and 90s-inspired fashion, followed by an inter-divisional quiz competition.

The Corporate Division emerged as champions, followed by the Wildlife Division (WD), Forest Services Division (FSD), and Timber Industry Development Division (TIDD). The day ended with a lively barbecue social.
Crowning the week’s events was a health walk and games session that began at the Forestry Commission Head Office and concluded at the University of Ghana’s Mensah Sarbah Hall field.

Staff carried placards raising awareness on issues like illegal mining (galamsey), forest protection, and wildlife conservation.
Present at the event were the Acting Chief Executive, Dr. Hugh C.A. Brown; Acting Deputy CE, Mr. Eric Elikem Kevin Kotoko; and Acting Director of Human Resources, Dr. Gordon Sarfo-Adu.

The Wildlife Division, having won multiple competitions, was named overall champion. Corporate took second place, followed by FSD and TIDD.

The 2025 Health Week not only spotlighted the Commission’s dedication to healthy living, but also underscored the importance of a motivated, informed, and united workforce in achieving its sustainability goals.
