The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has reaffirmed its stance against former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, officially declaring him a "wanted fugitive" and revealing that steps have been taken to secure his arrest.
Addressing Journalists in Accra on Monday, he said “About 30 minutes before this briefing, I triggered processes for the issuance of an INTERPOL Red Notice for the location and provisional arrest of Mr. Kenneth Ofori-Atta, pending extradition or his surrender,” the Special Prosecutor disclosed.
According to the OSP, the decision is part of ongoing efforts to ensure Mr. Ofori-Atta answers to criminal inquiries being pursued against him.
The OSP confirmed that it has rejected requests that sought to delay or obstruct extradition processes and has resolved to pursue criminal charges in court, whether Mr. Ofori-Atta is present or not.
“I despised their request for extradition processes to be delayed in any jurisdiction,” the Special Prosecutor said.
“This extradition to the Republic of Ghana is to ensure that the OSP can prefer criminal charges in court against Mr. Ofori-Atta — whether in absentia or otherwise.”
He emphasized the legal principle guiding the OSP’s actions:
“No person — regardless of title, status, or medical condition — is beyond the reach of inquiry by the OSP.”
Ending the briefing with a firm warning, the Special Prosecutor added, “We will not tolerate him anymore.”
