  • 24 Year Old Lady Arrested For Raping 4 Year Old Boy

    River State Police Command in Nigeria has arrested a 24 year old maid servant after she was caught raping a four old boy near a river. Intelligence picked up indicates that the little boy who suffered the rape from Easter Emmanuel returned Canada 3 months ago. Police says the little boy reported to his parents an abnormal pains in his private part and was taken to the hospital, after which was disclosed that he had been molested. The little boy said "She always makes me put my thing inside her own thing and in my mouth" He added that she has always been playing with my organ anytime she baths me or when we are both alone.   • PRESIDENTIAL/PARLIAMENTARY ELECTIONS: Ayawaso North Constituency Inaugurates New Campaign Team

    The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ayawaso North Constituency, Alhaji Manaf Alidu Mohammed Osmanu has inaugurated a campaign team which he believes will work tirelessly to secure victory for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections .     KGM Plastic Industry, a plastic producing company on the Spintex road in Accra has been raised down by fire. The fire outbreak which began at noon caused lots of fear in the workers making them ran for their lives. Although the cause of the fire outbreak is unknown, the thick black smoke has caused poor visibility for road users in the vicinity.   • UNITED KINGDOM: Random Stop, Search Hits Croydon; As 9 Police Officers Pounce On Black Student

    Nine Police Officers in Croydon, United Kingdom have stopped and searched a black student randomly on the streets on suspicion of carrying illegal substances. In a viral video posted on Facebook by an eye-witness, the black young student was heard and seen challenging the officers asking why he was being stopped and searched. According to the eye-witness (Name withheld), the young black man was heading towards college with two female friends before they were bumped into by the street officers. The Eye Witness said “These officers came to the young man who was standing with the two ladies. Random stop and search! The guy has the right to know why he is being search. I think it’s a language barrier” Explaining himself to other police officers, the angry young black man said “I don’t have anything. I was only asking him why he wanted to search me. I am not going anywhere. If I had something, I would have been gone long ago” The young black man further added that he had nothing on him adding that he is being harassed for nothing. With what seems to be a language barrier, the young black man drifted his attention to a Senior police officer and narrated his ordeal with ease. “Can you search me because I don’t want him to search me” the angry young man tasked the officer. The Eye Witness also mentioned that she is amazed at how 9 officers pounced on an innocent young black man whiles when real robbery happens, they (Police) will be nowhere to be found. After 9 minutes of search and interrogation, the young black student was allowed to go after nothing was found on him.     The Ghana Beyond Aid Committee says it is calling on the government and public to adapt new additional change in their dealings adding that it will help the country achieve its targeted goals. According to the Committee, the country will achieve its target if it allows honesty, fairness, patriotism, hard work, accountability, truth, self- reliance, transparency and equal opportunities for all Ghanaians becomes the order of the day. Speaking on the theme; ‘Renewing our mindset and changing our attitudes for collective development’ in Accra, Metropolitan Archbishop of Cape Coast, Most Rev Charles Palmer-Buckle said "We need systematic and sustained goal-oriented values to actualise the agenda. If we are to achieve it, every Ghanaian must be on board. Without the Ghana Beyond Aid, we will continue to revisit our past therefore, we need to focus and guide our actions" He added that when patriotism, honesty, volunteerism, accountability, transparency and hard work are instilled in Ghanaians, the country will be able to achieve its agenda. “It is imperative to psyche the Ghanaian very deeply to cherish the gift of the fellow Ghanaian.   • “Revoke Dr. Srofenyo’s License, Probe His Credibility” – Mohammed Mustapha To GMA

    Husband of the Late Akua Nyarko Osei-Bonsu, Mohammed Mustapha is calling on the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) to revoke the licence of Medical Director at the Ridge Hospital, Dr. Emmanuel K. Srofenyo and probe his credibility over the demise of his wife and baby. According to the Widower, he would want an investigation carried on the attitude of the Medical Director for deliberately implicating him (Mohammed Mustapha) without recourse to the pain and grief that he has gone through after the demise of his wife and baby. In an interview with Thinknewsonline.com, the Widower, Mohammed Mustapha said “Dr. Emmanuel K. Srofenyo acted unprofessionally and per the ethics of his profession, giving false information to cover up for the negligence of his clinicians. I request for his immediate resignation, investigated and if possible relinquished of his position as the Medical Director of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (RIDGE) and his license revoked in practicing as a medical professional” The Widower also called on Authorities of the Ghana Health Service to further investigate all issues relating to maternal mortality in the various hospitals across the country. He noted that he feels the report has been tempered with adding that it has drafted in a manner to favour the hospital. “I want a full trial judgement with claims of damages for the unfortunate loss of my wife, I also believe this will serve as a stern deterrent to the hospital administration to make sure all protocols and ethics binding their health administration are duly adhered it” he added. Explaining the ordeal his wife went through, Mohammed Mustapha revealed that he was disappointed in the medical team of Ridge Hospital adding that a Fragmin drug which he was tasked to purchased was not administered on his late wife. He said “There were no records from the hospital indicating that a plan was taken to administer an anticoagulant or recommended. None of the other precautionary measures were also considered to reverse the situation, this proves there was a Gross Negligence on the part of the department which was the major factor that caused the demise of Madam Akua Nyarko Osei-Bonsu, (a community health nurse with the Madina Polyclinic)” It is emerging that the deceased was scheduled for an emergency caesarean section which was expected to come off on December 16 in an attempt to save the baby. “Thromboembolism is what he was told his wife had developed. From my observation, I realized the hospital implicated me the husband of not procuring the drug that I earlier discussed with Dr. Pobee and Dr. Srefenyo which in itself was a lie because I wasn’t around when the drugs were initially procured and paid for” Further checks revealed that records of the late Nurse revealed a receipt with No. R2516077 which was procured on the 13-12-19 at 6:50 pm. “After her demise, I was made to pay an amount of GH¢1,375.30 as cost incurred for her admission, so I want to know if the administering of a prophylactic anticoagulant therapy is the protocol of the department, why was the drug not procured and added to her bill just as other drugs were procured to be paid later” he said.   • “Enough Of Your Repudiation, We Deserve Better” – Holiday Inn Hotel Staff To Management

    Some aggrieved staffs of Holiday Inn Hotel in Accra are calling on Authorities in the Hospitality Industry to come to their aid adding that they can no longer endure the unfair and ill-treatment meted on them by their Management. According to the workers, although having a secured job and being satisfied is an important factor in every individual’s life, most of them have been denied their simple human rights. In a Facebook post sighted by Thinknewsonline.com, a Chef at the Holiday Inn Hotel, Kwaku Amponsah said “Today, staff of Holiday Inn Accra Airport Hotel, one of the key players in the hospitality industry have been repudiated their human right” He added that most staff were sent home on April 1 this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic but still have not been paid their monthly salaries. Chef Amponsah also added all efforts to get the attention of management for the settlement of the pending issues has not yielded any positive results. “Just before this COVID-19 break, there were constant delays in paying of wages, income disparities, lack of labour contracts, poor medical care and the deteriorating working conditions over the years has set the stage for increased levels of labour unrest” he noted. Another Chef at the Holiday Inn Accra Airport Hel, Ethan Hunt took to Facebook and said “Over the past few years, thus 3-4 now, there has been delay of salaries, working equipments too aren’t sufficient, whiles most workers have been denied medical care in certain instances” He stressed that the pain and hardship from management led to the death of a colleague who was denied medical care. Chef Hunt also revealed that management are aware of the difficulties they are facing but they seem unconcerned. “Some hotels such as Best Western Premiere Hotel, La Palm Royal Beach among others have settled their staff with the payment of their two months salaries. From April to June, no staff of Holiday Inn Hotel has been paid and this is very appalling” he fumed. In what seems to be a response from Management of Holiday Inn Hotel in a purported Facebook post which went viral, it said “During our Durbar held on March, 2020, I informed all attendees of the closure of Holiday Inn Hotel due to Covid-19 and the inability to pay staff” The statement further added that an appeal was made to government through the Ghana Hotels Association (GHA) for relief and assistance to help staff redraw monies from their Providence Fund. The statement also revealed that after 2 months, the Management of Holiday Inn Hotel agreed to give each worker GHc500 as s 'gift' but the staff say they are yet to receive such an amount of money.   • “Food Safety Can Prevent Foodborne Illnesses, Boost Body’s Immune System To Fight COVID-19” - FDA

    Deputy Chief Executive, Drug Registration and Inspectorate Division at the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), Seth Seaneke is calling on the public to adapt the practice food safety in their daily lives adding that it can help prevent foodborne illnesses and boost the body’s immune system to fight COVID-19. According to Mr. Seaneke, the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in food supply chains being disrupted with some products, ingredients, or materials being unavailable or in short supply. Delivering a speech on behalf of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of FDA, Delese Mimi Darko in a virtual presentation at the 2nd World Food Safety Day on the theme, ‘Food Safety, Everyone’s Business’, Mr. Seth Seaneke said “In the rush to identify new suppliers, food businesses may focus less attention on the integrity of the supply chain, thereby compromising on food safety and food fraud. In this respect, every stakeholder along the food chain in Ghana has a key role to play towards achieving the ultimate goal of food safety and sustainability” He added that in a world where unsafe food accounts for 600 million morbidity and 420,000 mortality every year (WHO), there is the urgent need for action as SDG 3’s ‘Ensure healthy lives and promote wellbeing for all at all ages’ is to be achieved. Mr. Seth Seaneke also added that access to sufficient amount of safe and nutritious food is key to sustaining life and promoting good health. Speaking on ‘Food Safety in Our Business Environment During this COVID-19 Period’ he explained that the FDA on its part has reviewed its operations to reduce the negative impact of the pandemic on business whiles still ensuring the safety of the food supply chain. “The FDA is therefore working with the food industry to ensure the prevention and spread of COVID-19 in order to forestall any potential food safety and nutritional challenges that may arise. Continuous education and food safety awareness is on-going via our social media handles to equip everyone in making informed choices whiles improving their health via the consumption of safe food” he added. The Deputy Chief Executive, Drug Registration and Inspectorate Division also mentioned that the fast track registration of hand sanitizers and face masks has also been introduced in the effort to ensure their availability to all Ghanaians. On his part, the Head of Food Industrial Support Services Department at the FDA, Ebenezer Kofi Essel said “COVID-19 presents challenges to virtually every human activity. The socio-economic impact is very grave and may linger longer than anticipated. The protocols recommended for the prevention of infection with COVID-19 has itself put a strain on major statutory activities including food regulation across the food supply spectrum worldwide” He explained that a major pursuit expected of every National Food Regulatory Agency during this period is the intensification of measures that would ensure the continuous supply of safe and nutritious food. Mr. Essel further mentioned Inspections (Local and Foreign), Market Surveillance, Import Controls and Laboratory Testing as part of the concerns infections resulting from exposure to the virus have had on some existing regulatory frameworks. Speaking on the impact of reduced regulatory activities, he said “Absence or reduced regulatory control during this period could potentially put consumer health and safety at risk. Increased risk of Food Fraud. Increased risk of compromised hygiene practices in food processing facilities leading to food contamination Touching on challenge facing the Food and Drugs Authority, Mr. Essel said “How do we continually assure public health and safety; without exposing our staff to the infection, letting down our guards to food fraudsters, compromising safe food handling practices and injuring public trust and confidence in our food supply system?” He, however noted that reviewing existing regulatory frameworks and situating them in the context of the pandemic which is guided by recommended protocols for fighting COVID-19 is one of the point strategies and innovations to address FDA’s challenges. “Assessing the national food safety situation in the light of regulatory coverage along the food supply chain, Identifying the weak links, looking at how those links can be strengthened and considering new collaborations that needs to be established including laboratory testing facilities, possibly the use of private inspection entities are part of the point strategies and innovations to address FDA’s challenges” he said. Mr. Essel also revealed that putting together a comprehensive data on Food Businesses to facilitate risk categorization of operations such as; Risk profiling attention and resources have been realigned to operations classified as medium or high risk. He also explained that eased regulatory bureaucracies and administrative bottlenecks which do not necessarily enhance public health, rather discourages self-compliance. Mr. Essel highlighted the need to intensify media interactions including public education on food safety and consumer awareness; traditional and largely social media. “Making conscious efforts to deal swiftly and decisively with issues of regulatory infractions, being mindful not to create panic situations but rather demonstrates to the public that FDA is still in control” he stressed. The Head of Food Industrial Support Services Department at the FDA noted that Management of FDA is showing high level of competence, commitment and leadership to overcome the challenges COVID-19 and the threat it presents to food control systems.     The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ga East Municipal Assembly (GEMA), Janet Tulasi Mensah, has told residents in the Municipality that the 'Year of Roads' agenda mentioned by President Akufo-Addo will be completed as promised. According to her, the agenda is not a cheap political talk adding that residents in the Municipality will benefit from it. Inspecting some on-going projects in the Municipality, the MCE said "I'm proud to say that the whole of the country, Ga East is enjoying the most of roads construction and we've spoken to a lot of the contractors and most of them are dedicated to the work. This project, according to the Municipal Urban Roads Engineer (MURE), Aboagye Foster, is critical to the 7.5 Dome Pillar 2 roads project.
