The Minister of Education, Hon. Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has painted a bleak picture of the state of affairs in the education sector at the time his predecessor, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang left office in January 2017, describing the bills as ‘huge’. Dr. Prempeh, who is also MP for Manhyia, made the revelatiosn on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday highlighting on educational reforms and teacher education since the NPP assumed office. The Management of Ghana Education Service (GES) says it has granted access to the recently dismissed students to partake in the ongoing West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in their various school under guardian escort. According to GES, the pardon was made possible following President Akufo-Addo's directive to the Minister of Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh on the faith of the final year students. Management of Bright Senior High School, a private second cycle institution at Akyem – Kukurantumi in the Abuakwa – North Municipality of the Eastern Region, is apologising to the public over the conduct of their students for allegedly beating the WAEC Officials and a Daily Graphic reporter. According to the management, the teachers never instructed the students to stop writing the paper and leave the school premises as it has been reported. The students say the situation is affecting them psychologically hence unable to write the exams, which forced the headmaster, Bright Amponsah to storm the school and asked the final year students to come out and attack the WAEC officials.
