A local football player in Lamwo District, Northern Uganda, died on Saturday after he was reportedly assaulted by his teammates. The deceased Churchill Owaci, 22, was allegedly assaulted by his teammates after he made an error that led to a goal during a friendly football match between the two local football teams. The deceased was a resident of Tumanon A village, Agoro Sub County in Lamwo District. He was playing as a central defender in a match between the two teams all from Poba Parish. Justice Amos Wuntah Wuni of the High Court, Land Division, has been ordered by the Supreme Court to step down as presiding judge in the contempt case against the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong. The Court also quashed all the proceedings that have gone on so far on the case, save for the order for Mr. Agyapong to appear before the High Court on contempt charges, as well as the charge sheet, and ordered that the case be returned to the registry of the High Court for reassignment to a different Judge. The Supreme Court gave the order today, Wednesday, October 14, 2020. His lawyer Alexander Afenyo Markin speaking to the media after the order said the Justices of the Supreme Court referenced the Montie 3 case. By law, since the prohibition is in place, it means that all proceedings by the judge are again a nullity. Meaning everything must start afresh with new procedures followed. We respect the court, we are thankful to the Supreme Court. It’s been our case to have this matter resolved and that has been our posture,” he said. “The Supreme Court referred the Montie 3 case and drew our attention to the fact that, in that case, those [the Judges] who were directly affected, did not sit on the matter. Additionally, Kwame Gyan accused Justice Wuni of committing a “plethora of infractions which if not checked and halted by the Supreme Court may lead to a travesty of justice. Controversial Social Media Personality, Andreas Owusu has joined some scores of Ghanaian ladies to mark this year's October 13, 'No Bra Day' celebration. According to her, the campaign is to create awareness about the dangers associated with breast cancer. On Twitter, she tweeted "Ok guys but on some real, I hope y’all know that #nobraday is a day on which women are encouraged to not wear a bra as a means to support breast cancer awareness. However, some scores of Ghanaian men who spoke to ThinkNews Online hinted that although observing the 'No Bra Day' was important, it was important for the women to get screened and also allow their men to have access to the breasts. The Supreme Court has dismissed a suit filed by businessman Alfred Woyome seeking to halt the sale of his properties by the state. Mr.Woyome filed his case arguing that the state's purchase of his properties was not done in accordance with the law. Mr.Woyome argued that there are some underhand dealings which to him constitute enough basis for the transaction to be declared null and void. The Judges however dismissed the case explaining that the suit lacked merit. Background In July 2014, the supreme court ordered Mr.Woyome to refund GHC51.2 million to the state on the basis that the manner in which he obtained the money went contrary to the constitution. The payments to Mr.Woyome were in respect of contracts between the state and Waterville Holdings Limited in the construction of stadia for the 2008 African cup of Nations held in Ghana. The ruling followed claims made by the Receivers of defunct UT Bank that some of the properties identified by the state for sale were theirs.
