She recalled the fatalities and wanton violence meted on some innocent Ghanaians during the just-ended elections, who happened to be the breadwinners, making it impossible for their wives and children to feed. “ Regardless, we stand to sympathize and share the pain with all our women who lost their husbands, children, and siblings in the just-ended elections. - "Churches Should Develop Manuals To Educate Children About LGBTQI+ In Sunday Sch" – Bishop S. Mensah
President of the Full Gospel Church International, Bishop Samuel Noi Mensah says it’s high time the church developed manuals to educate children in Sunday Schools on the activities of the LGBTQI community. Speaking on JoyNews’ program “A Walk With Jesus”, he indicated the initiative will help Christian children know the difference between right and wrong. He added that now is the time for the Church Councils to sit down and formulate manuals and training that will educate children from Kindergarten to Senior High School level about the challenges of these social issues and the activities of the LGBTQI community. Read also: https://www.thinknewsonline.com/post/dr-addo-kufuor-turns-80-ministry-of-interior-ghana-medical-association-celebrates-him “While the church is fighting to ensure that there is a law, the church would also develop these training materials, so that in our Sunday school departments, we would start teaching the children that in the beginning, God created a male and female but when you go to the outside world, they are saying a male can become a female and a female can become a male”. The President of the Full Gospel Church International is convinced that although the clergy is teaching the right word from the pulpit, it needs to teach it academically so the children will understand what the Bible teaches. The executive member of Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC), believes that the church is still the conscience of the nation because if not for the church, there would be a lot of evil and moral decadence. So, our belief is that it is better for us to keep the people on the life sentence or a fixed-term sentence so that if there is fresh evidence emerging tomorrow, these people can be exonerated,” he stated. - "We Are Dismayed By Your Decision To Forcefully Retire Yaw Domelevo" - CitizenGhana Movement To Prez
The CitizenGhana Movement, a non-Governmental Organization (NGO) says it is dismayed by President Akufo-Addo's decision to constructively and forcefully retire the Auditor-General, Mr. Daniel Yaw Domelevo, without recourse to him on the basis that he has reached the age of retirement. In a statement sighted by ThinkNews Online, it said "Mr. Domelevo’s passport, an official Government of Ghana identification document used to verify the biodata of Ghanaian citizens by local and foreign authorities alike, lists his date of birth as 1st June 1961. Mr. Domelevo’s birth certificate and baptismal certificate also note the same date of birth. It added that the correct forum for determining the truth in the matter is a court of law adding that in the absence of a final judgment by a court, President Akufo-Addo's retirement of Mr. Domelevo was premature and arguably unlawful. The communique said "By preventing an independent constitutional officer from exercising his lawful duties, your government launched one of the gravest assaults on the 1992 Constitution and the fight against corruption since the advent of the 4th Republic. It is a sad reality, that on the eve of the anniversary of our independence, we have to contend with such setbacks in our pursuit of a more just and accountable government. - Int'l Women’s Day 2021 Theme – “Women In Leadership: Achieving An Equal Future In A COVID-19 World
UN Women announces the theme for International Women’s Day, 8 March 2021 (IWD 2021) as, “Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world.” The theme celebrates the tremendous efforts by women and girls around the world in shaping a more equal future and recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. It is also aligned with the priority theme of the 65th session of the Commission on the Status of Women, “Women's full and effective participation and decision-making in public life, as well as the elimination of violence, for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls”, and the flagship Generation Equality campaign, which calls for women’s right to decision-making in all areas of life, equal pay, equal sharing of unpaid care and domestic work, an end all forms of violence against women and girls, and health-care services that respond to their needs. https://www.thinknewsonline.com/post/int-l-women-s-day-spotlight-on-linat-osman-kundaribuo-a-gender-activist-and-campaigner-for-women Women stand at the front lines of the COVID-19 crisis, as health care workers, caregivers, innovators, community organizers, and as some of the most exemplary and effective national leaders in combating the pandemic. The crisis has highlighted both the centrality of their contributions and the disproportionate burdens that women carry. Women leaders and women’s organizations have demonstrated their skills, knowledge, and networks to effectively lead in COVID-19 response and recovery efforts. Today there is more acceptance than ever before that women bring different experiences, perspectives, and skills to the table, and make irreplaceable contributions to decisions, policies, and laws that work better for all. The majority of the countries that have been more successful in stemming the tide of the COVID-19 pandemic and responding to its health and broader socio-economic impacts are headed by women. For instance, Heads of Government in Denmark, Ethiopia, Finland, Germany, Iceland, New Zealand, and Slovakia have been widely recognized for the rapidity, decisiveness, and effectiveness of their national response to COVID-19, as well as the compassionate communication of fact-based public health information. READ ALSO: https://www.thinknewsonline.com/post/j-j-rawlings-goes-home-on-january-27 Yet, women are Heads of State and Government in only 20 countries worldwide. In addition to persistent pre-existing social and systemic barriers to women’s participation and leadership, new barriers have emerged with the COVID-19 pandemic. Across the world, women are facing increased domestic violence, unpaid care duties, unemployment, and poverty. Despite women making up a majority of front-line workers, there is a disproportionate and inadequate representation of women in national and global COVID-19 policy spaces. To uphold women’s rights and fully leverage the potential of women’s leadership in pandemic preparedness and response, the perspectives of women and girls in all of their diversity must be integrated in the formulation and implementation of policies and programs in all spheres and at all stages of pandemic response and recovery.
