  • GNPC Seeks Parliamentary Approval To Venture Into Oil Exploration

The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) is requesting parliamentary approval for a loan of $1.65 billion to purchase two stakes in Ghana’s offshore fields. This is contained in a memorandum submitted to Parliament by the Minister for Energy, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, for consideration and approval. GNPC, through its GNPC Explorco, is allowed to participate in the upstream petroleum sector. READ ALSO: https://www.thinknewsonline.com/post/the-future-of-gnat-in-the-smooth-dispensation-of-education-cannot-be-overemphasised-kojo-armah In the memoranda, the company said, it seeks approval to purchase a 70% stake in the South Deep Water Tano (SDWT) operated by AGM Petroleum Ghana Limited and 37% stake in the Deep Water Tano/Cape Three Points (DWT/CTP) operated by Aker Energy Ghana Limited. The company will form a joint operating company with the two entities and acquire the said stakes at different agreed prices. “Provision of a loan not exceeding US$1.65 billion to finance the acquisition at a price to be negotiated which might not exceed US$1.3 billion and GC Explorco share of capital expenditure (CAPEX) to Pecan Phase 1 First Oil of US$350 million.” READ ALSO: https://www.thinknewsonline.com/post/local-news-coda-outdoors-credit-union-to-support-informal-sector-pictures GNPC argued that entering such a partnership with the two entities is critical because prevailing situations such as the exiting of oil majors from the country required that it builds its capacity and take up a large part of the exploration activities before Ghana’s oil reserves hits a level of terminal decline. “With the shift away from investments in oil and gas into renewable, Ghana faces the risk of stranded assets and dwindling proven reserves if GNPC is unable to undertake exploration, development, and production alone. A declining industry undermines growth, diminishes revenue expectations for Ghana and makes redundant the stock of skilled labour in the industry which Ghana has rapidly built up over the decade.” It said the move is “all the more needed and urgent” hence the need for parliamentary ratification. • "Show More Seriousness In The Matters of The University Teachers" - USAG To Gov't (Pics/Video)

The Leadership of the University Students' Association of Ghana (USAG) has charged the Akufo-Addo government to show more seriousness in matters of their teachers following a strike action by the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) over poor conditions of services. According to USAG, the strike action by their teachers is affecting their studies thus calling on the government to do the needful. Addressing Journalists in Accra on Monday, the President of USAG, Christian Philip Armah said "We are here to state that the Ghanaian student who has paid his or her school fees deserves better and for that matter needs to be treated fairly" READ ALSO: https://www.thinknewsonline.com/post/the-future-of-gnat-in-the-smooth-dispensation-of-education-cannot-be-overemphasised-kojo-armah He added that if the fight between UTAG and Government is not brought to an end, it is the students who will suffer greatly. Mr. Armah said "We have already suffered due to covid-19, our academic calendar has been distorted and we do not know when this academic calendar is going to resume since this strike earlier eluded to is an indefinite one" USAG reminded Journalists that the press conference was not intended to support either Government or teachers but rather protect the interests of all University students in the country. • "Ghana Is Considering Free Tertiary Education" – Akufo-Addo Tells Other World Leaders

The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, says his government is widening further access to education for all of Ghana’s school-going children because an educated workforce will help realize the vision of a progressive and prosperous Ghana. Speaking at the Global Education Summit, co-hosted by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta, in London, on Thursday, 29th July 2021, President Akufo-Addo noted that the goal of countries in Africa is to move away from being mere producers and exporters of raw materials to value-added economies. READ ALSO: https://www.thinknewsonline.com/post/the-future-of-gnat-in-the-smooth-dispensation-of-education-cannot-be-overemphasised-kojo-armah This, the President said, is not going to be possible if Africa does not have an educated workforce. “It, therefore, requires an investment that we have to make to ensure that not just as many, but also all our children have the opportunity to go to school right from kindergarten, through primary, through secondary, and through tertiary education,” he said. READ ALSO: https://www.thinknewsonline.com/post/local-news-coda-outdoors-credit-union-to-support-informal-sector-pictures Towards the realization of this, President Akufo-Addo told the Summit that Ghana is on course to guaranteeing access to education for all school-going children, evidenced by the allocation of 23% of the national budget to education, adding that “it is one of the highest on the continent, and we intend to ramp it up even more.” With the Free Senior High School policy resulting in some four hundred thousand (400,000) more children getting access to senior high school education in Ghana, the President acknowledged that problems with infrastructure and the challenges of inadequate classrooms are being addressed. READ ALSO: https://www.thinknewsonline.com/post/bui-power-ceo-is-wrong-the-energy-minister-has-not-been-misled-by-gridco “So, in Ghana, we’ve taken the decision that we’re going full scale ahead now that we have widened public education at the secondary school level to all and sundry, to try and replicate it also at the tertiary level,” he said. President Akufo-Addo continued, “Until recently, if you wanted to get a student’s loan in Ghana, you had to find a guarantor, somebody who would come and say, we’ve removed the guarantor requirement. If you have the Ghana National Card, you can now go on the basis of that you get the loan, which is also going to mean a significant expansion of education at the tertiary level.” READ ALSO: https://www.thinknewsonline.com/post/amplified-will-focus-on-amplifying-mentoring-youth-dev-t-activities-in-various-quarters-gov-t Describing these steps as “absolutely critical for our future”, the President noted that “if we don’t do it, we will not be able to get to our basic goal, which is a structural transformation of our economies… Lives and livelihoods are both the keys to the future for us and we will hopefully continue to be to do that” Summit Outcomes At the end of the Summit, international governments and corporations pledged to donate $4 billion for the Global Partnership for Education, which provides fair access to public education in ninety (90) countries and territories that account for 80% of children out of school. READ ALSO: https://www.thinknewsonline.com/post/summit-will-enable-authority-deliberate-take-decisions-on-political-security-in-mali-s-botchwey The summit emphasized the importance of equitable access to education amid warnings that COVID-19 has exacerbated already under-resourced public education programs in less economically developed countries. She can only penetrate using a contraction or a sex toy and Section 104 of Act 29 does not deal with that. So 61 years on, you need to review your law and make sure it is responsive to 2021.” About the Bill The legislation is titled ‘The Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill 2021’. Groups and individuals who advocate for the rights of LGBTQI people or offer support will also face sanctions under the law aside from those who engage in it. However, others have also called for a review of Ghana’s laws to be more accommodating of minority groups, as many countries are decriminalizing homosexuality. In February 2020 for instance, the then Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament, Prof. Mike Oquaye, warned the World Bank against homosexuality conditions in development assistance to Ghana. • "We Must Nurture a Generation of Leaders" - NAPO (Pics)

The Minister for Energy, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has called for a deliberate nurturing of a crop of leaders to take the country forward. Dr. Prempeh, who is also the MP for Manhyia South and is popularly known as ‘NAPO’, made this call at the 13th Congregation of the University of Professional Studies (UPSA) in Accra on Saturday, following the conferment on him by the university of an honourary Doctorate of Humane Letters (DHL) for his leadership as the Minister of Education in the first term of President Akufo-Addo’s administration. The next, it could be challenged with the computerized school placement system, a collapsed school building leading to casualties or an outbreak of an infectious disease in a school. Added to this is the relationship with the various teacher and student unions as well as vigorous policy debates on a range of issues. In all the aforementioned, with a good, dedicated, committed, resourceful team, we managed teachers, students, non-teaching staff, unions, parents and all others successfully” he stated. It also requires one who is calm, resilient, a resolute team player who is decisive and results-oriented but above all, one willing to push a transformational agenda and to do right by God and country. He reiterated the importance of ensuring that our country’s next crop of leaders is properly nurtured. It is crucial therefore that we nurture the right leaders to ensure that they are of the right calibre for the task. What this means is that we must deliberately treat leadership grooming with all the urgency that it deserves, right from school, to instil it in our young people” Dr. Prempeh declared. • OPINION: You May Not Have Read Law, But It Doesn't Make You Stupid Not To Read The Signs On The Wall

On the 7th of January this year, I saw the fastest bailiff ever from the Cape Coast high court to Accra and then to parliament house to prevent a duly elected member of Parliament from being sworn in, and subsequently voting in the speakership election. A wise man asked, who was the bailiff who could get the judgement and move to Accra with this speed of light? Hamza's name was mentioned; only to find out that, the said Hamza was a registrar and not a bailiff. The court was and still is a high court in Ghana. I agree that parliament is a master of its own rules, but letting sleeping dogs lie sometimes is a disaster, and encourages impunity. READ ALSO: https://www.thinknewsonline.com/post/the-future-of-gnat-in-the-smooth-dispensation-of-education-cannot-be-overemphasised-kojo-armah The supreme court instructed the NDC to file processes at the Cape Coast high court. The legal team gets to the court at 8:00 am and the registry of the court was not open for business and the registrar was nowhere to be found as well as the cash office to pay for filing, and the judge was already reading his verdict before anyone enters with his or her own troubles to disturb anything !!! The same Hamza has been fingered in this. What a judicial Maradona, comfortably practising legal gymnastics!!! Someone asked, is this Ghana? I replied with a low tone; Yes, this is Ghana, under the leadership of Justice Anim Yeboah as chief justice and a former Attorney General and so-called human rights advocate as President. READ ALSO: https://www.thinknewsonline.com/post/local-news-coda-outdoors-credit-union-to-support-informal-sector-pictures Don't get me wrong, this can be a mere coincidence. The judge may have had a problem with his car so had to be dropped by his wife who may be a market woman and must be at the kotokoraba market by 8:00 am, so dropped him off at the office at 7:30 am, the registrar son may have had a stomach upset and had to be rushed to the hospital before returning to the office, and the cashier's daughter was also not well and had to be nursed for a little while. Believe it or not, coincidences happen all the time and may have happened that, officers of the same Court on the same day were involved in almost similar situations. However, let no one tell you lies, the judiciary is as rotten as f**k, and the telepathic relationship between some judges and some registrars are more than Fabregas and Diego Costa. In as much as coincidences are possible, never rule out a well-rehearsed strategy too. Everything is possible, at least with these 7:0, 9:0 score lines. READ ALSO: https://www.thinknewsonline.com/post/bui-power-ceo-is-wrong-the-energy-minister-has-not-been-misled-by-gridco Writing against the judiciary has been a difficult one and it takes boldness and conviction to do that. He who knows it feels it. Even the head of the judiciary, the embattled chief justice, Justice Anim Yeboah, I feel should step aside, looking at the alleged case of corruption levelled against him. The image of the judiciary must be protected. But WHO AM I to advise such a huge man who knows the law inside out!!! Perceptions are very important in life and everyone should always test the waters and find out the sentiments of citizens and how they feel about things.
