Manchester United footballer Mason Greenwood has been arrested on suspicion of rape and assault following allegations on social media. Greater Manchester Police said it was made aware of "social media images and videos posted by a woman reporting incidents of physical violence". It added "we can confirm a man in his 20s has since been arrested on suspicion of rape and assault". He remains in custody for questioning and inquiries are ongoing. Manchester United earlier said the player would not return to training or matches until further notice. The club said they "do not condone violence of any kind" and had been made aware of the allegations on social media but would make no further comment until the "facts have been established". Mason Greenwood has not responded to the social media allegations. The 20-year-old footballer, who made his debut for the club in March 2019, signed a four-year deal in February 2021 after rising up through the ranks of the United academy. 32-year-old Richard Oponin Marfo has gained admission into Adisadel College, his dream school after five B.E.C.E attempts. Mr. Marfo the oldest among his siblings completed Maria Montessori School at Kumasi in 2004 with aggregate 10 hoping to further his education at Adisadle college but he was given admission at Sammo Senior High School. He enrolled at Sammo Senior High school and completed his secondary education in 2007. After completion Mr. Marfo ventured into footwear on the streets of Adum and Moro market. In 2010, Mr Marfo realised his inability to fulfil his dream of enrolling at Adisadel College and decided to write B.E.C.E again but he was not given admission to Adisadel College. He said "Three years later in 2010, I couldn't stand the desire of not fulfilling my dream school. I marshalled courage and got myself enrolled in Modern Educational Centre at Auakwa Sepaase in Kumasi to rewrite BECE. Despite having aggregate 6, I was still denied to be enrolled in Adisco". With the adage "no Santa no school in Ghana" with 'santa' as Adisadel, Mr Marfo never gave up. He wrote B.E.C.E again in 2011 yet was denied admission after attaining aggregate 6. He was given admission to TI Ahmadiyya with the assurance from the Headmaster of Adisadel College of transferring him after Form 2 but he left after his first year and started a lotto business at Adum. After Mr Marfo's year at TI Ahmadiyya he left without transferring to Adisadel. He said " for my third attempt I was placed in Ekumfi TI Ahmadiyyaa to offer science. I went there on a promise of the then Headmaster of Adisadel College that I would be admitted to my dream College on transfer basis in form 2. Why should I be enrolled as a transfer student to Adisco? These words kept eating me up and made me forget the promise. Due to this i went to E-AMASS for only a term" At age 26, Mr Marfo wrote B.E.C.E for the fourth time as a private candidate yet he was given admission not to Adisadel but to his first school Samma Senior High School. He denied the admission and continue his business. After five years of waiting and hoping Mr Marfo wrote his fifth B.E.C.E in 2020 and this time he gained admission to his dream school Adisadel College at age 32. He recounts this event as the happiest day of his life. He says "A year later in 2021, finally! finally! God answered my prayers and gave me my long awaited childhood dream school Adisadel College to study Science on the 1st March, 2021 at age 32. The Police in Kwabenya, on Friday, January 28, 2022, shot a suspect by the name Hakimi, now deceased, at the Kwabenya Hills Valley Police Station, Accra, for stabbing the Station Officer. According to tye Police, preliminary investigation established that the deceased had earlier attacked three victims and threatened to kill them. In a statement signed by the Director-General, Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, ACP Kwesi Ofori, it said "The victims out of fear rushed to the police station to seek refuge but the suspect pursued the victims to the police station with a knife" The statement added that at the police station, the deceased attacked the station officer and the investigator with a knife and stabbed them multiple times in the head for attempting to protect the victims from the violent attack. "Sensing that the lives of the station officer, the investigator and the three victims wee in immediate danger, the police shot and killed the suspect. The Minister for Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum has expressed worry over the strike action of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) as he says, the ministry is working tirelessly to get the Teachers back to the classrooms. According to him, the Ministry is putting in all necessary efforts in place to resolve the issues being raised by the Teachers for them to get back to the classrooms. The Minister was speaking to the media at the Information Ministry's Meet the Press Series encounter today addressing matters relating to the education sector and most importantly the strike action of the teacher union. The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) strike action has entered the 3rd week over concerns that, the government and the National Labour Commission (NLC) showing luck of will to resolve the matter. The MP for Bosomtwe Constituency, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum noted that, he has the issues of the teachers at heart and will ensure that its resolved for them to get back to the classrooms. Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum added that, he has the concerns and welfare of Teachers at heart and therefore he is ensuring that all major concerns especially promotions and welfare is addressed. In other developments, the Minister for Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum has revealed that, the decision to suspend the semester system that brought lots of brouhaha was due to the concerns of the teaching body. The decided to withdraw the semester system after they had complains that, vast majority of the teachers were against the it therefore leading to the cancellation of the system. It will be recalled that, the decision of the ministry and the Ghana Education System (GES) to introduce a semester system was greeted with massive opposition from the teaching body and various CSO's. The MP for the Bosomtwe Constituency, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum stated that, there is no changes that either the semester or trimester system brings to the results of the students but it was just for convenience purpose but since it was not welcomed that's why if was suspended. The Exopa Model Agency, one of Ghana’s most popular model agencies, has announced an initiative to create an avenue for fashion designers to be able to reach potential buyers during the first quarter of the year. The initiative dubbed ‘Valentine Fashion Fever’, will comprise a series of fashion shows with clothing from kids to adults. The Head of the Exopa Model Agency Abu Sadick, in an interview yesterday, said that the event has been long awaited and will be a boost to fashion sales. Last year, the fashion calendar in Ghana was significantly altered with most of the big fashion shows situated at the last quarter of the year. The Head of the Exopa Model Agency Abu Sadick, explained that such a trend will not help the fashion industry. Hence, the need for other fashion shows to spring up; especially at the first 2 quarters of the year. “Almost all the traditional fashion shows happened in December last year; may be because of the foreigners who were coming into the country. But, I think Ghanaian fashion designers should focus more on Ghanaians based here because it is they who can guarantee them steady sales. That’s why we are bringing the Valentine Fashion Fever’; to take advantage of the season and our Ghanaian local fashion community”, he said. Police in Mozambique have warned bald men that they could be at risk of attack after a spate of killings thought to be motivated by a local belief that their hairless heads contain gold. Two people have been arrested in the central province of Zambezia over the deaths of three men, one of whom was decapitated and had his organs removed. The suspects told detectives that they were working on commission from clients in Malawi and Tanzania, who wanted to get rich with the help of witchcraft. Inacio Dina, a police spokesman, told a news conference in Maputo that the killings took place in the village of Milange, a few miles from Mozambique’s border with Malawi. The Minister in charge of Finance, Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta has indicated that if the Electronic Transaction Levy (E-Levy) is not implemented, Ghana will potentially experience an economic disaster. The Minister announced plans by the government to implement E-Levy late last year when he was in Parliament to present the 2022 budget and economic statement proposal of the ruling government. Unfortunately, it was not well received by Ghanaians with the Minority in Parliament continually stressing that it will ensure its rejection. Speaking at the government’s town-hall meeting to discuss the E-Levy on Thursday, January 27, in Koforidua, Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta shared that there will be doom for the country if the levy is not implemented. “If we don’t do this E-Levy, we’re just pushing ourselves in a way that would potentially end up in such a disaster,” the Finance Minister noted. According to him, one of the down sides if the levy is not passed is that the government will be forced to return to IMF. “When we were in the IMF programme, we couldn’t pay for nurses and teachers. We couldn’t hire anymore because there were restrictions on that. I mean, it’s just really thinking you can go back to Egypt. “In a way, we have forgotten how difficult and tenacious that master from Washington was. So, we can deal with them for them to give us advice but we need not ever get into an IMF programme [again],” Mr. Ofori-Atta said. Despite the negative feedback for the E-Levy, the government remains positive and hopes to have it passed by Parliament as soon as possible. TV personality, Afia Schwarzenegger says popular pastor Nigel Gaisie prophesied her father’s death. According to her, the man of God made the pronouncement some weeks before her father, Augustine Adjei, passed away. In a video posted on her Instagram platform, she stated that Prophet Gaisie had urged her to get her father to accept Christ before he died. Afia Schwarzenegger said Nigel Giasie informed her “in two weeks, your father will die, get someone to lead your father to Christ.” Following the prophecy, she stated that one Prophet Inkoom came to her home to ensure her father accepted Christ before he passed. Afia Schwarzenegger thanked both Prophet Inkoom and Nigel Gaisie for their help and the words of encouragement. She stated that although she does not agree with everything Prophet Gaisie does and says, she is truly grateful to him for what he did for her in the last days of her father. The actress also thanked some other persons who had an influence on her and her spiritual life as well as those who were able to grace her father’s one-week memorial. Songstress Mzbel born Belinda Nana Ekua Amoah has lost her father, Albert Amoah. She confirmed the sad news in a tribute to him on Thursday, January 27 when she shared some of her fondest memories of him. “Rest In Power Daddy… My Mr Amoah,” she wrote on Instagram in addition to her images with him. Friends, fans and colleagues of the singer have since been sending their condolences to Mzbel and her bereaved family. Mzbel is one of Ghana’s relevant musicians to date. Her first album titled ‘Awesome’ was released in 2004. The somewhat controversial lead song enjoyed massive airplay and soon, Mzbel became the toast of many shows across the country. Her second album, ’16 Years’ followed the same path with several hit songs from the album. She has since remained relevant on the showbiz scene. The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Tertiary Education Institutions Network at the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) has taken a swipe at the government over its posture in the impasse between the University Teachers Association (UTAG) of Ghana and the National Labour Commission (NLC). In a press release from the group issued on Thursday, January 27, 2022, the group likens President Akufo-Addo to Zacchaeus. They said government is behaving like the Pharisees in the bible. “It must be on record that this is a never before seen laxity on display by the Akufo-Addo-led government. Let the books have it that this government channels more energy into fighting to tax the electronic transactions of its citizens than giving lecturers their needed and well-deserved remuneration. “This government has displayed what seems like the return of the Biblical Pharisees led by Zacchaeus the tax collector,” the press release signed by NDC TEIN UMaT President Mathew Abaara Ndebilla said. UTAG has been on strike since the beginning of January demanding improved conditions of service. The NLC has dragged UTAG to court, insisting that the strike is illegal. Not backing down, UTAG has stressed that its lawyers will meet the NLC in Court on February 3 when the case is called. For NDC TEIN UMaT, government must immediately eat a humble pie and go to the negotiation table with UTAG to build consensus and ensure their needs are addressed.
