A young man, simply identified as David, has been lynched and burned to death, allegedly by a group of Hausa men over a misunderstanding that ensued because of N100 balance with a commercial motorcyclist, popularly called Okada rider. It was learnt that things got heated up and resulted in a fight between David and one of the commercial motorcyclists. According to sources, the situation soon degenerated as more motorcyclists allegedly pounced on David and his friends, beating them till they became unconscious. David, who was said to be a sound engineer, was on his way home from a club when the incident occurred at Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, a few days ago. A video obtained by SaharaReporters shows the deceased was being beaten alongside yet-to-be-identified men, said to be David's friends. David's friends, Frank (saxophonist) and Philip (keyboardist) are said to be receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital. A tweet by Ufuoma (@thecoloredpen), said, "#JusticeforDavid killed in Lagos over #100 change #JusticeForDeborahSamuel killed in Sokoto #JusticeforPhillipandFrank fighting for their lives in the hospital. The sound engineer and keyboard player who mounted the same bike had an argument with the okada man (an aboki guy) which resulted in what became a cold-blooded night. "The other okada riders (that were of the same tribe) came out and tried to avenge their "brother". To cut the long story short, try were beaten to a pulp and the sound engineer lost his life right there. "As if that was not enough, the sound engineer was burnt right there on the road. To make matters worse, the saxophonist that was to play for the night heard about what was happening while the fight just ensued and he went to try to settle not having a full grasp of what was really going on. The Ghana Football Association (GFA) Disciplinary Committee says it has demoted Obuasi-based football club, AshantiGold SC to Division Two over match manipulation. Ghanaian Sports Journalist, Saddick Adams is appealing to employers owning businesses in Ghana to consider increasing salaries of its employees if they are making profit. According to him, prices of products and goods in the country are rising. A few hours after reporting the murder of a Cape Coast Technical University student, it is reported that a level 400 female student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has passed away. The unfortunate news was revealed by the Voice of KNUST on their Twitter platform, which has over 45,000 followers. Despite the fact that no specifics of the awful news were released, many people responded by sending their heartfelt condolences. In the comments section, students and netizens alleged the school could be under a spiritual attack as these deaths occur monthly. Some said that the regular death reports were one of the reasons they opted to attend other colleges. Tipped by one of the respondents to the tragic news, the victim of the sad news has allegedly been identified as Florence. The people are calling on the President of Ghana, Ministers of State, Parliament, human right organisations and the clergy to add their voices to the clarion call to demand justice for Albert Donkor who was shot by the police leading to his untimely death. According to the group, On the 25 April, 2022 at exactly 1:00 am midnight, the late Albert Donkor was picked up at his mother’s residence at Kasadjan in the Nkoranza Municipality by the Ghana Police Service on suspicion of robbery that had occurred on the Nkoranza-Kintampo road. “Albert Donkor was denied access to a lawyer of his choice, his family members were denied access to him, he was never tried by any competent court and today, all we are hearing is Albert is no more; how reckless can the police service be? This is indeed an epidemic of injustice. The people of Nkoranza cannot stay silent when innocent Albert Donkor has been targeted and killed” part of their press statement reads. “What is the justification for arresting a civilian at his residence and subjecting him to torture causing his death and not that the death occurred as a result of a gun battle at the crime scene. It took the Ankobeahene of Nkoranza Traditional Council, Oheneba Agyei Baffoe who intervened and asked them to meet him. On Saturday, April 14, the leaders of the Youth of Nkoranza were invited to the Han-Ser Hotel by some unknown strangers who claimed to have been sent to Nkoranza by the Inspector General of Police, George Akuffo Dampare after he was informed by the Bono East Regional Police Commander, DCOP Moses Asabagna Atibillah of what has been going on in Nkoranza recent days. Former President John Dramani Mahama on Saturday visited the home of the late John Ndebugre in Accra to commiserate with his family. The former MP for Zebilla died on Friday 6th May 2022 in his home in Zebilla, Upper East Region after a period of illness. Signing a book of condolence, President Mahama wrote: “So shocked to learn of your sudden passing. You’ve been an elder brother, mentor and comrade. Your words of advice and good counsel have served me well in my political career. Former President John Dramani Mahama has said that his party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will oppose any move by the Akufo-Addo administration to collateralize the Ghana Heritage Fund (GHF). Mr Mahama said he is picking up signals within the investment community that the government intends to use the GHF as collateral to raise a US$2billion from a consortium of banks. If this turns out to be true, he said, his party will oppose it the same way they rejected the Agyapa royalties agreement. In a Facebook post on Sunday May 15, the 2020 presidential candidate for the NDC said “As I emphasized in my presentation on Ghana at Crossroads: Government must clarify reports which are rife in the investment community that it intends to use the heritage Funds as collateral to raise a US$2billion from a consortium of banks. “We wish to serve notice that if it turns out to be true, we in the NDC, in the same way that we opposed the Agyapa deal, we cannot support the collateralization of every single source of future revenue just to finance today’s consumption.” The purpose of the GHF is to provide an endowment to support the development of future generations when the petroleum reserves have been depleted. The Western Regional Secretary hopeful of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Charles Cobbina has shut down claims that he is the chosen candidate of the Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah as it is purported by some members of the public. Reacting to the claims, he noted that would not have been endorsed to contest the party’s election if he was not competent. He stated that “I will not be endorsed if I was not the best”. He said even if it was true as believed by some members, it meant that he was competent for the job since the Minister would not endorse an incompetent and inexperienced candidate to head such a position at this crucial time when the party aims at ‘breaking the 8’. Mr. Cobbina noted that “Even if the Regional Minister is bringing a candidate, do you think he will bring “rubbish”, he is a fantastic man and he will not endorse you if you are not… I am a 2 star general in the party and they know my worth and how I work.” Mr Cobbinah who is popularly known in public as Kempes made the remark when he appeared on Skyy Power FM’s Jolly Breakfast Show on Friday. He contended that he is the rightful candidate to be elected for the Regional Secretary position of the NPP and that he is coming with a clean heart because he even prays for his competitors. He stated that he was not the favourite because he has been endorsed by the Regional Minister, but because of his personality, calibre, attitude, presence and attitude of excellence which the party people know and the leaders will recommend at any time. “I will not be endorsed if I was not the best”, he emphasized. There was chaos at the Abeka District of the Church of Pentecost on Sunday May 15, after a group of young men claiming to be reps of the Regional Ga Traditional Task Force stormed the church over what they call noise making following the ban on drumming by the Ga State. According to sources, the young men forcefully stormed the Church with whips and knives. In a video sighted on Facebook by Thinknewsonline.com, some members of the church were heard screaming as well as pleading with the task force team to temper justice with mercy. The Facebook Post explained that the Church of Pentecost, Abeka District was was using the microphone and organ at a lower decibels for church service amidst the ban. It is emerging that the said task force team interrupted the preacher while preaching, assault the Presiding Elder who tried to calm tempers and slapped a lady in the process all in the name of custom and traditions.
