Brother of the Late Former President John Evans Atta Mills, Dr. Cadman Mills says he will ensure all activities of the 'Atta-Mills Institute', an organisation set up by Samuel Koku Anyidoho are brought to a halt. According to him, the Institute is unauthorised and unappreciated. Speaking at the John Evans Atta Mills 10th Anniversary Commemorative Lecture in Accra, he said "The 'Atta-Mills Institute' is unauthorised, unappreciated And most unwelcome" "I want the Ghanaian people to know that the 'Atta-Mills Institute' is unauthorised, unsanctioned, unappreciated and most unwelcome. May God be with you" Dr. Cadman Mills said "After a tour at the Asomdwee Park yesterday, for the first time, I did not feel emotional.There were pictures of him all over and quotes. The hullabaloo over the late Prof. Evans Atta Mills’ 10th anniversary is taking another dimension, especially the one on the brown apparel his monumental statue was presented in. The issue of the brown attire was raised by the Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, during a press conference in Parliament on Monday, July 25, monitored by this portal. The Tamale Central legislator asserted that the late President never wore brown attire in his lifetime. "In any case, I never even saw Professor Mills in that kind of brown attire," he stated. In reaction, the Founder and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Atta Mills Institute, Koku Anyidoho who was always glued to the late President at the Castle and during public appearances has dug out a picture of the late President 'wearing' what he called a 'brown political suit.' In a post on his Twitter handle today, Tuesday, July 26 cited by Modernghana News, he captioned the picture, "Is this not President Atta-Mills in a brown political suit?" The Minority Leader also raised concerns regarding the omission of the name of the late President on the bust — instructing government to correct it immediately. “You should indicate the name of the person the bust represents and not who it was unveiled by and or who supported it. They should replace those inscriptions with the late President’s name immediately; it's just unacceptable. “We would have gone straight there to correct it ourselves if not for his (Atta Mills’) peaceful nature. Former Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Allotey Jacobs says he has quit the party and hence does not want to hear anything about them. According to him, he quit the party on his own and was not sacked as speculated. Speaking to an Accra based television network, he said "I quit the party as a Former Regional Chairman. I am a social commentator now. I don't want to hear anything about NDC, I will rather want to hear things about Prof. Mills" "I am okay now. I feel free not being part of the party" Mr. Allotey also rubbished claims about being sidelined by the NDC. "Party can't sideline me. I am an Institution myself. They can't sideline me, I sidelined the party" "I am very happy not belonging to NDC" he noted. The alertness of residents of Essipon in the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolis of the Western Region has led to the arrest of a young man suspected to be among a syndicate behind the stealing of ECG cables in the area. According to the residents, the thief – who gave his name as Sumaila Abdullah – was spotted around the incident area with another colleague at about 1:00pm Monday. Their movements became suspicious after the residents had monitored them for some time. “They were just patrolling the area as though they were on the lookout for something,” one resident recounted. Since they were not known members of the community, the residents decided to keep a close eye on them. The two entered the bushes under one of the distribution lines of ECG. Within minutes, the residents indicated, they saw one of the cables hanging loosely. The residents rushed on the two and saw Sumaila folding a cable. “We tried to arrest them but a fight ensued. I was able to overpower Sumaila and restrain him. Unfortunately, my other colleague could not overpower the other thief. In fact, in the struggle, the thief bit my colleague. Because I was then restraining Sumaila I could go and help him. And so, he managed to escape,” Kweku Essiam narrated. Other residents lamented how they have to spend thousands of cedis to replace their electrical appliances due to the activities of the thieves. “If you go to my house right now, you will see their handiwork all over. My air condition cable and other cables have all been cut. Now I have to spend several Cedis on repair works. Most of my appliances have been affected. The past three months have not been easy for us here. Almost every week this thing happens,” a resident Adamu Seidu lamented. Western Region Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Quarcoo encouraged residents to keep being vigilant so as to help arrest persons who have targeted their installations. “First, the young men who bravely arrested the thief deserves our commendation. We will also continue to encourage residents to be on the lookout for people who act mysteriously around ECG installations. It is our desire to supply uninterrupted power. In the heat of the controversy surrounding Coach Prosper Ogum and the management of Asante Kotoko, BoD member of the club, Kofi Abban went rampage on Twitter insisting their coach must be fired. You have not listened to the coach so why do you have to draw a conclusion about sacking him. Division One League side, Kenpong Academy are stacking up their technical team with the appointment of former Asante Kotoko legend, Stephen Frimpong Manso as part of their technical team. According to reports in the local media, the former Black Stars trainer has made a return to the club he departed in December last year. Sources say, the former great defender of the Black Stars will team up with former Black Stars coach, Kwasi Appiah to Coach Kenpong Academy. Frimpong Manso, a former Black Stars captain was among the foremost coaches who were employed when the academy started but left his role but has now made a quick return. Frimpong Manso has enormous experience in the Division One League as he has in the past coached the likes of Asokwa Deportivo, Nzema Kotoko, Asante Kotoko among others. H.E Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo, together with other dignitaries including former President John Dramani Mahama visited the late Prof. Mills’ graveyard, Asomdwe Park, to commemorate his 10th anniversary on Sunday, July 24. At the event, the President commissioned the renovated grave together with a monumental statue in honour of the late President. However, the bust has been trending on social media and other media outlets for the wrong reasons. The latest from the Minority Leader is the colour of the attire he was presented with. Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Atta-Mills Institute, Samuel Koku Anyidoho has taken a swipe at the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for allegedly performaning rituals on the newly commissioned statue of Late President Atta-Mills at the Asomdwee Park. According to Mr. Anyidoho, the act by the NDC was shameful and unacceptable. In a WhatsApp status sighted by Thinknewsonline.com, Mr. Anyidoho posted "This is how the enemies decided to desecrate the Bust of the late President after they boycotted the State Event" "They went there to perform rituals" It will be recalled that the NDC rejected an invitation to be a part of the 10th Anniversary of Late President Atta-Mills celebration at the Asomdwee Park on Sunday. Few days ago, tension grew as it was unclear who constructed the old Asomdwee Park which happen to be the resting place of Late President Mills. The NDC later announced that it will be holding a special wreath laying ceremony in honour of the fallen hero. Mr. Anyidoho added that he is disappointed in the NDC for falling to show up at the State event. The brouhaha has generated lots of mixed reactions on social media. Mr. Anyidoho took to WhatsApp, a social media platform to make the promise. In a WhatsApp status sighted by Thinknewsonline.com, Mr. Anyidoho said "I am grateful to President Akufo-Addo and the Republic of Ghana 🇬🇭 . I will comment no more on Asomdwee Park. He added that he is happy to have fulfilled a promise made to Late Mills. Dozens of giant rabbits thought to have been bred for their meat have been rescued from an allotment. The RSPCA was called to the site in Ashington, Northumberland, on 11 July and found a number of cramped, dirty hutches containing 47 of the animals. There were a mixture of adult and young Flemish Giants - the largest the size of a Jack Russell terrier - with a small number of average size rabbits. All of them are now being cared for while permanent homes are found. RSPCA inspector Trevor Walker said: "These poor rabbits were living in cramped and dirty conditions which would have been very unpleasant for them especially in the heat. "Luckily a vet found they are all in good condition. "We hope they will find loving homes, they will make good companion animals as they have a nice temperament. With many RSPCA centres already full with unwanted rabbits, they were sent to a mixture of centres, branches and licensed establishments, as well as some being looked after by inspectors. He added: "Sadly, rabbits are becoming an increasing problem as we are seeing more and more coming into our care, many as a result of the cost-of-living crisis." Credit: BBC News

The Minister for Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta has hinted that the Akufo-Addo administration will be reintroducing road tolls on some selected roads in the country. According to him, the reintroducing will help raise funds to facilitate the construction, rehabilitation and extension of the Tema Motorway. Presenting the Mid-Year Budget Review in Parliament on Monday, he said Government, in line with the Public Private Partnership Act, 2020 (Act 1039), will establish a concession agreement between the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF) and the Roads and Highways Ministry that will sponsor the 27.7-kilometer project" The Finance Minister stressed that the project when completion will be tolled. “The completed road will be tolled to recover the whole life cost of the completed infrastructure as well as pay lenders and provide a return for equity investors. “The Government of Ghana shall provide funding through GIIF to take equity in the Special Purpose Vehicle to be created by GIIF for the project,” Despite a cancelation of road tolls, the Finance Minister further revealed that government will toll all new roads constructed under such concession agreements. “All new roads of this nature will be tolled,” he stressed. Touching on the contract drawn so far, the Minister said a draft concession agreement between GIIF and MoRH is currently under review by all parties including the Office of the Attorney-General and Ministry of Finance. “When completed, the concession agreement is expected to be approved by the PPP Committee, Cabinet and Parliament,” It will be recalled that in November 17, 2021, the Akufo-Addo government hinted that motorists who ply various road in the country, will no longer be required to pay tolls.
