A man who could not fathom why his pregnant wife failed to prepare food before going to church pounced on her and beat her to death. The unfortunate incident reportedly occurred at a town in the Sapele Local Government Area of Nigeria’s Delta State on Friday, August 5, 2022. According to The Punch, the man, popularly known as M.O.B was earlier seen questioning his wife about why she failed to perform house chores, including the cooking of dinner before she left for church. It is reported that he did not even wait for the heavily pregnant woman to explain before he pounced on her with slaps. He hit her several times until she collapsed before bystanders and other church members rushed to her rescue. The woman was pronounced dead after being rushed to a nearby Obule Hospital. Pulse.ng reports the Police Public Relations Officer for Delta State Command, DSP Bright Edafe as saying that the incident had not come to the attention of his outfit. In similar news, a 27-year-old Ghanaian lady will spend the next 10 years of her life in prison in hard labour for killing her lover over a grasscutter soup. The High Court in Sunyani presided over by Her Ladyship Justice Mavis Akua Ando, found Hilda Asumani Embro guilty of the crime and sentenced her accordingly. The convict, who is a resident of Abesim in the Sunyani Municipality of the Bono Region, stabbed Prince Yaw Aboagye multiple times with a pair of scissors in his neck and chin area, causing him to bleed profusely to death. She was unhappy because her lover alone had eaten the said grasscutter soup she had prepared for the whole family. She was later arrested and charged with manslaughter before she was found guilty of the offence. The convict and the 30-year-old deceased had been dating for over six years before the unfortunate incident. The Police at Jacobu in the Ashanti Region have opened an investigation into circumstances leading to the stabbing to death of a final year student of Tweneboah Kodua SHS. Sixteen-year-old Daniel Osei-Mensah, who operates a motorcycle business at Odaho in the Amansie West District during vacation, met his untimely death on Friday, August 5. He was reported to have been stabbed in the lower abdomen and chest and clubbed by his assailants at Manso Odaho in the Ashanti Region. Three suspects have been picked up by the police. According to a police report, the victim was lured into a bush before his life was taken. “We had a call from Fiankomah after several hours in search for Osei and his motorbike,” an eye witness told 3news.com. “Moments after the call, we moved in groups to actually confirm such a terrible news. On our way to the crime scene, we had another call claiming that we have by-passed the police vehicle hence we should return. Upon our return, we met the police vehicle with the body of the deceased wrapped with a black rubber in the bucket of the vehicle. We, however, followed them to their station.” Mother of the deceased Adwoa Mary, popularly called ‘Adwoa Wakye’, has said that she has really lost a great person who was very supportive to her. “I have lost something dear to my heart and I pray the Almighty deals with all the perpetrators,” she said. Akwasi Boame, father of the deceased, expressing how restless he has become upon being fed with such a disheartening news said, “I’m left along with my Creator and I think only God can heal my wounds for me.” The Assembly member for Odaho Electoral Area, Isaac Bronya, has urged the Inspector-General of Police to, as a matter of urgency, expedite the commissioning of the newly built police station in his area to clamp down on crime. The Porcupine Warriors are currently working on resolving an impasse between head Coach Prosper Narteh Ogum and management. Narteh has submitted his resignation letter after refusing to come to terms with the Club’s management on certain decisions. The former WAFA trainer who joined Kotoko before the start of the 2021/22 season is unwilling to continue his duties with the Ghana Champions having led them to the League title last season. The Minister for Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif has asked the International Games Committee and Chef de Mission to provide an exclusive report on Ghana’s disqualification from the 4x100m race in the Commonwealth games. Ghanaians were left extremely disappointed when the 4x100m men’s relay team was disqualified due to a technical blunder by officials on Saturday. The team finished third in the semi-finals with a time of 39.05 seconds, ensuring qualification to the final, but, it was later revealed that Ghana failed to inform event organizers about a change in running order at least one hour before the race, leading to a disqualification. According to the race rules, changes are supposed to be confirmed at least an hour prior to a race. Players of Kumasi Asante Kotoko are yet to converge for their pre-season training after the club’s failure to settle the salaries of the playing body. The club was reportedly owing the players of their last three months’ salaries. The players were hoping by Friday 5th August 2022, all the outstanding arrears were going to be cleared but got disappointed after receiving only a month’s salary. According to players, they will only be ready to converge for their pre-season to commence after all the arrears are cleared. Asante Kotoko were supposed to kick start their 2022-23 pre-season last week Tuesday but due to the back and forth over the salaries of the playing body, the pre-season is yet to start. Popular broadcaster and host of Angel FM's morning show, Kofi Adoma Nwanwani has been rushed to the hospital. This was after he was attacked by by unknown assassins. Kofi Adoma, who is also the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Kofi TV was attacked by the unknown men on Saturday, August 6, 2022. According to a GhanaWeb report, the journalist was attacked around Old Ashongman upon his return from DAMAX Estate, Kuntunse, a suburb of Accra. It said his attackers who were riding a motorbike accosted him and attacked him with a sharp object, inflicting serious injuries on his body. The report added that after subjecting him with wounds, the unknown men later tried to set him ablaze. “Kofi Adomah visited his House at DAMAX estate at Kuntunse, on his way back he was attacked around old Ashongman. He was crossed by the guys on motorcycle. They targeted his face with sharp objects but he used his hands and shoulders to avoid many wounds on his face. They pour inflammable substance believed to be petrol and tried setting him on fire,” the source told GhanaWeb. Accra Hearts of Oak has called for the postponement of its game against city rivals, Great Olympics in the Ga Mantse Cup. The game was scheduled to come off at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, August 7, 2022. Some persons have cut down high tension poles belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) at Adelakope on the Tema-Akosombo highway in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality of the Eastern region. The poles connect power to communities such as Akuse junction, Akorley and Aseseeso in the Okere district. The incident is believed to have happened Thursday night in protest against continuous power cuts in the area. “Unidentified persons reportedly around 11:00 pm cut off a high tension Pole with chainsaw at Adelakope on the Tema, Akosombo high way in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality of Eastern region which connects power to communities such as Akuse junction, Akorley and Aseseeso in the Okere district,” Opambour Gyaman Simon of Rite FM reported. ECG neither confirmed or denied the incident when contacted. The Electricity Company of Ghana, ECG, switched feeders supplying power to Yilo and Manya Krobo municipalities on July 27, 2022, over attacks on its staff and tempering of its transformers by some unscrupulous residents resisting prepaid meter installations. The power cut to the two municipalities is having serious implication on health, education and the local economy. The Yilo Krobos District Education Directorate has warned second cycle boarding schools in the Municipality risk closure if electricity supply is not restored in the coming days. Public Relations Officer for Yilo Krobo Municipal Education Directorate Mr Solomon Sackitey sqid on Friday August 5,2022 that , boarding schools in the Municipality spend between ghc300 to ghc500 daily on fuel to power generators to preserve perishables in refrigerators. According to GES, this is unsustainable. Meanwhile, parents are being asked to buy torchlight for their wards to learn particularly those writing West Africa Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). Furthermore, management of Yilo Krobo and Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Health Directorates in a joint statement issued on August 1, 2022, warned of a public health emergency if power is not restored to their districts immediately. The health directorates said the power outage is seriously affecting clinical services in hospitals in the municipalities. For instance, in Yilo Krobo, the power outage has caused the relocation of municipal Cold Chain Equipment, which includes vaccine fridges and freezers for ice packs. The directorate is also spending GH¢500 a day to power a generator. “Ongoing COVID-19 vaccination is also affected as a result vaccination team, district and sub-district supervisors are not able to charge their mobile phones and tablets, therefore not been able to enter data and monitoring/supervisory reports,” the statement said. The Yilo Krobo District Hospital is barely three months old with very little capital and a host of challenges but forced to spend an unbudgeted amount of GH¢10,975 to power its diesel generator, according to the statement. At the Somanya polyclinic, the directorate also said the only generator plant “which was donated by ECG to Somanya polyclinic has been taken back without any explanation by ECG and therefore the facility has no alternative source of power.” “The power outage has affected all aspects of clinical and public health care in the facility. The most affected areas are maternity units, laboratory services, in-patients, vaccine fridges and administration.” Atua and St. Martins Depores Hospitals spend ghc3,000 and Ghc5,000 respectively every day on fuel to power generators. The directorates say it cannot sustain the high cost of fueling generators at the various hospitals forewarning that “ we may not be able to sustain it to provide the quality health care services as expected, therefore appealing to the government and management of ECG to restore electric power supply to all health facilities within the affected areas “in the shortest possible time to avert a possible public health emergency.” Story by: Kojo Ansah
