Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Mavis Hawa Koomson has announced that this year's closesd season will commence from July 1st to 31st. According to Madam Koomson, the closed season will serve as a means to restock the fishing industry. Speaking to Journalists in Accra, she said "I wish to use this opportunity to announce that this year's closed season will commence from July 1st to 31st" She also that her outfit will ensure that the usage of approved net. "Previously, we gave the approve nets to retrieve all unapproved nets" Madam Koomson disclosed that most fishing boats are now being embossed. "We will use the laws on law-breakers. 76 trawlers were available on our high season. The sector Minister hinted that the Jamestown fishing harbour will be cmmissioned after Elmina. The Former Greater Accra Regional Director of Education, Monica Ankrah has urged her successor, Mr. Stephen Abamfo to do better than her past administration following his induction into the new office on Wednesday. According to Madam Ankrah, the task during her reign was difficult, however, she is confident that the newly inducted Greater Accra Regional Director of Education will succeed. Speaking exclusively to Thinknewsonline.com at the Greater Accra Region and Accra Metro Education Directorates' send-off and induction of new director held in Accra, Madam Monica Ankrah said "I am so happy to see Mr. Abamfo taking over from me because, I nurtured and train him. I have known him since the 1980's He is hardworking and very supportive in whatever he does. Madam Ankrah also added that she is hopeful that her successor will live up to expectations. "I believe that he will live within the confines of the law to bring everybody on board, as well as share ideas. He should have a listening ear" "I expect Mr. Abamfo to do better than what I did because it is a difficult task. You have to sleep with one eye and ear opened. He will serve the RCC, Region and National as well She further advised subordinates to cooperate with the new Director of Education. The name of Ghanaian business mogul and current Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, Sir Sam Jonah, (73), has come up as a front runner for John Dramani Mahama’s running mate nomination for the 2024 presidential race. The National Democratic Congress last month elected the former president once again and most of their parliamentary candidates for next year’s general elections. The one big slot left is who partners John Mahama. Whoever gets the slot will be awarded poll position to lead the party in 2024, whether the opposition party wins in 2024 or not. Elements within the NDC and the campaign team of Mr Mahama who spoke to Asaase News are convinced that among the several names being considered by the NDC flagbearer, Sir Sam appears to be one of those highly tipped to get the nod. This may not go down well with some purists, since Sir Sam is not known as a card-bearing member of the party founded by the late John Jerry Rawlings. He had, however, grown over the last decade as Mr Mahama’s key advisor and a major facilitator of the NDC leader’s international business network. Possible choice A source close to Sir Sam when contacted by Asaase News expressed no surprise to the news, adding that ahead of the 2012 presidential election, moves were made to the former CEO of now defunct Ashanti Gold with Mr Mahama but Sir Sam politely declined. But, the bond between the two have grown, with John Mahama’s younger brother and business man, Ibrahim Mahama playing a strong role in the relationship. Just two weeks ago, the two (John Mahama and Sam Jonah) were spotted together in the East Asian state of South Korea, where Mr Jonah introduced the NDC’s 2024 presidential candidate to his rich network of contacts there. Mr Mahama, after winning the 2012 election with Paa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur as his running mate, went on to lose the 2016 polls to President Akufo-Addo with a repeat of the 2012 ticket. Following the death of Mr Amissah-Arthur, in 2018, Mr Mahama chose Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang as his running mate for the 2020 polls but the pair lost to the New Patriotic Party ticket, President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia. Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin has disclosed that he will never support the legalization of homosexuality rights in Ghana. He said as a conservative man, he would prefer to die than to be of a generation that will grant rights to members of the LGBTQI community. Interacting with journalists in Tamale over the weekend, Speaker Bagbin said the West, which is championing the rights of homosexuals, is already facing the negative repercussions. He said indigenous population in most European countries is going extinct by the action of gays and lesbians and the earlier Ghana stopped their activities, the better for all. “For you all to participate in it, count me out of Ghana,” the Speaker of Parliament said. “I will prefer to join my Maker than to live. That is me. I am a Catholic and pro-life. I will not do anything that will end the world because God says the world is eternal. Until He comes back we cannot do that to end the world. “They have the repercussions in their country and I can tel you that in the next 50 years, there will be no indigenous European in the world.” He stressed that the anti-gay bill will be passed under his tenure as Speaker. The Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill is at the consideration stage in the current Parliament. First Vice Chairperson for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sherry Hanni Ayitey says the Assin North Parliamentary Aspirant, Gyakye Quayson will not go to prison as speculated. She made these remarks while speaking on an Accra-based radio station. Madam Ayitey said "The NPP has disturbed Gyakye Quayson for over 2years. He won't go to prison but all those who have stolen our money" She added that John Mahama when elected President will line up members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) who were engaged in corruption and place them behind bars. Although Hilda's record is yet to be certified by the GWR, Chef Dami is undertaking a 120-hour cooking marathon to surpass Hilda's record. The Chief of Mempeasem, Nii Torgbor Obodai Ampaw VI, has apologized to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and Ghanaians after failing to stand for the National Anthem. In a viral video from the 2023 edition of the Green Ghana Day Celebration, which was organized at the University of Ghana, the President is seen angrily directing the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Henry Quartey, to tell the chief to stand up and observe the National Anthem. The chief was seated while the National Anthem was being observed by other Ghanaians. His action infuriated the President. But the chief explained in a statement that he was unable to stand for the National Anthem due to ill health. “I would like to state for the records that I did not elect to wilfully refuse to stand to observe the National Anthem. No patriotic son of the land would do so let alone a chief, more so in the presence of the President and other distinguished guests. I did not stand to observe the National Anthem because I felt weak”. He added, “At the commencement of the programme, the National Anthem was observed, and the president was seen directing the Regional Minister for Greater Accra, Hon Henry Quartey, to get my attention to observe the anthem because I was seated whilst it was being observed. I respectfully wish to extend my sincerest apologies to the President and the good people of Ghana about this rather unfortunate incident”. According to the man of God, he is cautioning the young man (look-alike) to desist from impersonating him or face his wrath. In a video sighted by Thinknewsonline.com, Osofo Stephen Adom Kyei Duah said "The young man using me as his look-alike, this is your last warning" It will be recalled that a new look-alike trend has gained grounds in the country and also on social media. Some scores of Ghanaian celebrities have been greeted with shock following the look-alike fever. Celebrities such Medikal, King Promise, Mr. Drew, Kuami Eugene and Rev. Obofour have had their fair share of the look-alike fever. However, Osofo Stephen Adom Kyei Duah seems to be against such initiative. The General Overseer is well known over some countries, cities and towns he ministered as Brother Stephen but currently known as Adom. Born on March 4th 1963, Stephen Adom Kyei-Duah had his elementary education at Akosombo and completed Form 4 at Akosombo L/A Middle School in 1980. Osofo Kyei Duah believes his Church is the final manifestation of Gods' establishment of his works through him.
