This disruption, which began on Sunday, 25th August 2024, is impacting several areas, including Dodowa, Oyibi, Frafraha, Adenta, Madina, Ashongman, Haatso, La, Osu, Kanda, Airport Residential Area, Legon, and surrounding communities. According to Stanley Martey, Chief Manager, PR & Communications at GWCL, the issue stems from a burst on the transmission line that carries water from the Kpong Treatment Plant to the Dodowa Booster Station. The burst has particularly affected supply to the northeastern parts of the metropolis. “After completing the initial repair work, our engineers identified additional challenges on the same transmission line, necessitating another shutdown,” Mr. Martey explained. “We are working around the clock to replace the weak section of the transmission line to ensure a swift restoration of water supply.” GWCL is urging consumers, especially those in the affected areas, to manage the little water they have stored to avoid any inconveniences. Essential service providers like hospitals and schools, he noted, are being served with water tankers to minimize the impact. Mr. Martey assured the public that the situation is under control, and everything humanly possible is being done to complete the repair work. "Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the project is expected to be completed by the close of Wednesday, 28th August 2024, with supply resuming immediately afterward," he added. ACFO 1 Roberta Aggrey Ghanson, the Regional Commander for Greater Region, confirmed that her team received a distress call around 9:45 am and arrived at the scene within five minutes. Upon arrival, the firefighters discovered the blaze had affected one of the rooms, which appeared to be used as a storeroom. ACFO 1 Ghanson reassured the public "Everybody should keep their hearts at rest. The situation is controlled. It is very controlled now." She emphasized that the primary focus was on confining the fire to prevent it from spreading to other parts of the building. "At the moment, it is not safe for people and staff to return to work as we are still working to extinguish the fire completely," she added. Three fire tenders were deployed to the scene, and fortunately, the water supply at Parliament was sufficient to support the firefighting efforts. "We are working on the water source of Parliament," ACFO Ghanson noted.
