Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo, has urged Ghanaian youth to take up their rightful place in national development by driving innovation, civic participation, and leadership in their communities.
In a communique signed by the Minister, he said "The day was a global reminder of the crucial role young people play in translating global goals into practical, local solutions"
“We recognise that Ghana’s young people are not only envisioning our future — they are actively shaping and building it today,” he said.
“Their dynamism, creativity, and determination are central to our nation’s progress.”
This year’s celebration, under the theme “Local Actions for Global Change: Igniting Potential, Inspiring Change,” highlights the importance of youth-led initiatives in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) across education, health, economic empowerment, and civic engagement.
Mr. Opare Addo noted that the Ministry, in collaboration with the private sector, civil society, development partners, and other stakeholders, remains committed to investing in platforms and programmes that equip young people with skills, technological know-how, and leadership opportunities.

“In Ghana, the youth are a powerful force for transformation. We must re-skill, up-skill, and empower them to lead change in every sphere of life,” he stressed.
The Minister also took a moment to honour the memory of young lives lost in recent tragedies, including the August 6 helicopter crash and various road accidents..
“As we reflect on their resilience and passion, let us commit to building a nation worthy of their dreams and the ambition of every young Ghanaian,” he said.
"Let the youth arise for Ghana, for the nation demands their devotion.”
International Youth Day is marked annually on August 12 to promote the role of young people as essential partners in change and to raise awareness of the challenges and opportunities they face globally.
