The Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, has called for strict enforcement of building regulations following the recent structural collapse at Accra New Town.

The traditional ruler made the remarks when he visited the site of the incident a few days ago, where he assessed the situation and interacted with affected victims and authorities.

According to him, regulators and relevant state agencies must ensure that all construction projects adhere to approved building codes to prevent future tragedies.

He stressed that any structure found to be unsafe after proper engineering assessment must be demolished without delay.

King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II further urged authorities to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the cause of the collapse, noting that it is crucial to determine whether the defect is limited to a section of the building or affects the entire structure.

He maintained that if the entire building is deemed unsafe, it must be pulled down and reconstructed to guarantee public safety.

“We cannot live like this,” he stated, expressing concern over recurring incidents of structural failures and lapses in regulatory enforcement.

On the condition of victims, the Ga Mantse offered prayers for those currently receiving treatment, while expressing gratitude that about 90 individuals have reportedly been discharged from hospital.

He also called for continued prayers and support for those still on admission, wishing them a speedy recovery, and extended his condolences to families who lost their loved ones in the unfortunate incident.
